message 1: by [deleted user] (new)

Just thought I would start a thread about anything!

I actually should wake up my kids to get going for the day but instead goofing on GR.

message 2: by Beth A. (new)

Beth A. (bethalm) Lucky... I have to set an alarm to wake up before my kids!

message 3: by [deleted user] (new)

I remember when I had to do that. Wow it's been years. My teens could sleep all day if I didn't wake them.

message 4: by Petra X (new)

Petra X (petra-x) When I set the alarm on my phone and go through the tunes, my cat Lily goes mad. For some reason or other the tunes from the cell phone (doesn't work from anything else) really turn her on and she rubs up against it, me, books anything. She loves it when it goes off in the morning too.

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

That is so funny!

message 6: by [deleted user] (new)

just push snooze over & over & over again.

message 7: by Petra X (new)

Petra X (petra-x) I have my kid well-trained. If he wants a ride down (otherwise he has to get one - its safe on the island to hitch) then he has to make coffee and then wake me :-) Otherwise its the cell phone and my cat Lily rubbing up on me.

message 8: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Mine are my wake up call usually.

message 9: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (readr4ever) | 139 comments My dog usually gets me up, unless I have to teach and wake up early. She manages to wake me up a half hour before my alarm is set on days when I could sleep in a little. Oh well, when you have to go, you have to go.

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

Animals make great alarms. When I forget to set my alarm clock either the cat or one of the dogs wake me up. Thank goodness!

message 11: by Catamorandi (new)

Catamorandi (wwwgoodreadscomprofilerandi) I usually don't wake up when my alarm goes off. It keeps going for an hour, and half the time, I sleep right through it. I'm sure my neighbors love that one.

message 12: by Christina Stind (new)

Christina Stind One of my bunnies woke me up each day at 7. That was his time to get out of his cage and hop around and enjoy himself...

message 13: by Beth (new)

Beth Knight (zazaknittycat) More than 90% of the time I wake up automatically between 4:30 and 5:15, which kind of stinks b/c I really don't have to get up until 6:00, to wake my husband up. I always set my alarm, just in case. This morning I woke up at 4:30 but then fell back asleep for some reason and didn't wake up until the alarm went off. That only happens a couple of times a year, though. I really wish I could sleep until 6:00 everyday.

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

I usually wake up automatically but have had an occassion to forget to set the alarm & not get up automatically then I am thankful for the dogs & cat.

This am woke up 3 mins before the alarm went off & scared my cat. It was kinda funny!

message 15: by Beth (last edited Feb 26, 2009 11:45AM) (new)

Beth Knight (zazaknittycat) We used to have a cat who woke my husband up every morning by sitting on his head and poking his lips with her claws. She was very demanding and when she was hungry she let him know. Our other two cats are pretty easy going and our dog is super lazy. She won't get up until we do! One of the cats will only drink water out of the kitchen sink and she can get kind of crazy when she's thirsty, though.

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

Animals are so much fun. They have such neat personalities. our kitten was licking me all night. It was rather humorous.

message 17: by Beth (new)

Beth Knight (zazaknittycat) Animals definitely have very distinct personalities, just like people. How old is your kitten? I think they grow way too fast.

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

She is about 8 months old. She has grown very fast when i look at the pictures around the holidays to what she looks like now!

message 19: by [deleted user] (new)

ken: do you have the link for the library sales?

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks so much! I need to book mark it!

message 21: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah! The Library in the next town has their sale on the 7th & 8th! I'm so excited!

message 22: by [deleted user] (new)

I watched the Movie Sylia last night. It's about Sylia Plath. Great Movie!

message 23: by KrisT (new)

KrisT I want to see that Emily. I watched Duchess with Keira Knightly. I read a book about The Duke and Duchess of Devonshire early last year so wanted to see it. It was okay. They want the Oscar for clothing design. I couldn't see enough of the clothes on my little computer screen though. sigh

message 24: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes it was. I really like Gwyneth paltrow. It was an excellant movie. i think I want to buy it.

KrisT you'll enjoy the movie. I too want to see the Duchess but don't know if i should read the book first or after i see the movie.

message 25: by [deleted user] (new)

I have to agree, granted I've only read Bell Jar and one of her poetry books but really felt that it was well done.

message 26: by [deleted user] (new)

It's funny that you relate because I do too. My soon to be x cheated on me, I felt tortured myself and know how she felt. It is very sad that she couldn't see any other options. She was so talented and left such a great mark in the world of poetry & literature. It is sad. I have no respect for Ted Hughes. His behavior was so inappropriate.

message 27: by Rhonda (last edited Mar 02, 2009 08:51AM) (new)

Rhonda (rhondak) I used to blame Ted Hughes a great deal but what I have learned about the relationship over the years displays him in a far different light. I think Sylvia was really over the edge in many ways and it must have been almost torture to live with her, alternating between babysitting her mood swings and accommodating her genius at writing. We had a nice long conversation about this elsewhere on GR about the poem Maudlin.
When I was in college, I just KNEW we had to be related; I also discovered that even your friends don't tolerate mood swings for very long. Embarrassingly, at the time, I thought it was art.

message 28: by [deleted user] (new)

I so need a new computer chair it is beyond fixing. I should go buy a new one.

message 29: by Beth (new)

Beth Knight (zazaknittycat) Emilee: the only IKEA I know of in IL is in Schaumberg. We got Aaron a lot of stuff there for his apartment at school. He loves that place.

message 30: by [deleted user] (new)

I actually work near the IKEA in Schaumburg. There is suppose to be one i think In Bloomington. i need something inexpensive i should go see what they have.

message 31: by Beth (new)

Beth Knight (zazaknittycat) Everything in IKEA is pretty inexpensive. I'm a vegetarian but people always tell me that the meatballs they sell there are really good, too. Maybe you could go there on your lunch hour. LOL. I see I spelled Schaumburg wrong. I was born in Bloomington but lived the majority of my life in Michigan. I like living in IL but I guess I should learn how to spell the names of other cities besides Skokie, where I live.

message 32: by [deleted user] (new)

Beth: some of the spelling is nuts. It took me working in Schaumburg 3 years to spell it right. I don't think i would have spell Skokie right. And what about the towns with Indian names. Can't spell those at all or pronounce them.

message 33: by Beth (new)

Beth Knight (zazaknittycat) What always gets me is the pronunciation of Matteson. Some people say it like "Madison" and others say "Matsin"!

message 34: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm orginally from the West Coast and the pronunciation of "Roosevelt" gets me.

message 35: by [deleted user] (new)

I am so sick of snow. It snowed late yesterday and I am really wanting nice warm weather.

Understood.

message 38: by [deleted user] (new)

Sorry about your loss Fiona.

message 39: by Sandra (new)

Sandra (sanddune) Sorry, Fiona.

Replying to #40 Beth - my mother was a Mattson, Swedish; also Matsons around. My guess is that most Matteson's would say - mat-sin.

message 40: by Beth (new)

Beth Knight (zazaknittycat) Fiona, I'm sorry about your uncle. Emilee, I was not happy to see that snow. I'm at my mom's right now and she lives in the city, about 2 blocks from the lake and the wind is so cold here! Sandra, thanks for the info.

message 41: by Jacqueline (new)

Jacqueline (vayleen) Sorry about your loss, Fiona. It's good to hear that he lived a long, eventful life. :)

It's been chilly lately, but I don't think it really counts as spring until the evening temperature is above freezing. It feels a lot warmer during the day than it actually is and that's nice.

message 42: by [deleted user] (new)

Beth: you are probably feeling the wind! I am sick of the snow at least this year. They said on the news this morning that the last year recorded that we had snow was 1982. Shocker.

Yep, my husband's alarm goes off, he doesn't hear it, so I have to nudge/kick him to turn it off, after being sleepless from 2:00 am on. So the alarm goes off at 4:45 CST, 15-30 minutes later he'll get up to walk the dogs, who have been wrapped up around my legs all night long.

So, then I finally get some peaceful sleep, for an hour or so. Then the dogs join me while my husband showers and gets ready for work. After that, they accompany him downstairs while he's leaving for work.

Then they come back upstairs and I have to get them settled back down for another hour or so of sleep for me.

message 44: by [deleted user] (new)

I decided to log on as I just can't sleep. I hate restless nights.

message 46: by [deleted user] (new)

Good dinner, frozen pizza. I cooked it of course!

message 47: by [deleted user] (new)

I think so too!

message 48: by [deleted user] (new)

Sometimes I need an easy meal. Especially right now I have one at Baseball almost everynight. The Highschool is diong the play so I have one that I am driving there and back for 2 more weeks and then choir for the third one. I need fast. I try to make two really big meals on the weekend so we can do left overs.

message 49: by Beth (new)

Beth Knight (zazaknittycat) You are just too busy, Emilee! You definitely need quick things.

message 50: by Kipahni (new)

Kipahni | 45 comments I long for the easier cook days.
I have to cook 4-5 hours every other day. Because we have very few industrialized food. It's a lot healthier but seriously I feel like I cook thanksgiving every two days. Where is my mac and cheese? waaaaaaaahhhhh
