Nikki ~Where do you keep your TBR list? Just on GR or do you have it somewhere else too?
~How do you keep it organized/sort?
~How many books do you currently have in your TBR list?

message 2: by Ashley (new)

Ashley ~ My TBR list is on GR. I've been meaning to put them in a word doc, but haven't gotten it done yet.
~ There is no organization to my list until I get it typed out :/
~I currently have 60 TBR books on my TBR list.

message 3: by Nikki (new)

Nikki I would love to have a word doc for mine too but mine is kinda large. I have the big list on Amazon which is sorted by price. I am working on getting them added to GR so I can sort a different way like by theme or something. I currently have around 350 or so in my Amazon one. :)

message 4: by Lori (new)

Lori Phinney (lorimphinney) My list was on my phone in the "notes" app. But now i'm slowly transferring it over here. I think its more organized...and the GR app is on my phone anyways. I probably have about 60 books also.

message 5: by Nikki (new)

Nikki I have the app too. Do you like it? I tend to but it doesn't show everything like the polls.

message 6: by Lori (new)

Lori Phinney (lorimphinney) Its not great...could be better I agree. - but if you need to get to your info, check the msg board, or look up a book quickly it gets the job done.

message 7: by Nikki (new)

Nikki Yeah I like that I can barcode scan upc's when I am at the store and see a book that I want to add to my list. I am a book shelf stalker. I don't have a big book store near by so I have to check my local grocery stores. Although there are hardly any new books added so I do a lot of my shopping online.

message 8: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Same here Nikki. I don't live near a bookstore either. We have a vintage book store here in town, but most of those you can find free on Amazon. I always try to find the $.99 books on Amazon. When I try to look for free books on Amazon, it always starts with the classics. Not that I don't love classics but I've read a lot of them and want to find good free novels. Hopefully, I will figure out how to do that and add to my TBR list!

message 9: by Nikki (new)

Nikki Do you have a Kindle or an app? It is really addicting to look through Amazon and find books that you might like and add them to my wish list. There are a lot of options for Kindle books.

message 10: by Ashley (new)

Ashley I have an app right now. I'm hoping to get a Kindle for Christmas!

message 11: by Nikki (new)

Nikki I Love it!! I know that you will too. It took me a long time to make the leap. I am glad that I did.

Adriana | 3888 comments Only on Goodreads well I have a bunch of titles everywhere on printer paper.

I know it doesn't take long to add up. Mine is forever growing too!! That is why I was wondering how everyone else organized their list. I am kind of at a loss. I have sooooo many and a lot of them are in the same genre.. any ideas?

message 14: by Nikki (new)

Nikki ok so how did you determine the interesting names, like "floor joist?"

message 15: by Nikki (new)

Nikki lol that is funny.... I am not sure that I would have time to read one that large.

message 16: by Nikki (new)

Nikki Do you read more than one book at the same time? I have a very hard time doing that.

message 17: by Adriana (new)

Adriana | 3888 comments Some of mine are:
Issues
Dystopian
Nature
Children
Abuse
Death or something like that...

message 18: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michelle81) My list used to be in a word document but I find it easier to maintain it here with GR. Currently there are 259 books on my TBR list. It seems like everytime I read 1 I add 5 more to it! I really wish there was away to group the books by genre.

That would be nice. Like an auto sort if you wanted that. I think they probably don't do that so you can sort it how ever you want your self. I am still trying to deside how to do my list. It seems to keep getting bigger and bigger and It will seem overwhelming by the time I actually get to it.

message 20: by Nikki (new)

Nikki I finally got all of my books that are on my wishlist in Amazon over to GR and now I am feeling a bit overwhelmed trying to organize them. Does anyone have any shelf suggestions? I want to be able to find something without having to search through pages and pages of books.

message 21: by Nikki (new)

Nikki over 600....

message 22: by Nikki (new)

Nikki Sara, I just can't help myself. I like to search reviews and I especially like to read books in a series so when I find one book that I think that I will like I add all the others that are in that series too. It tends to add up quickly. :)

message 23: by Nikki (new)

Nikki I know...I love that there are so many books that are kind of hiden from the main stream and hype. Some of those are the best ones to read. I like to find people on here that have a lot of the same books and ratings on those books, that I have and follow them. Especially if they do reviews.I also like to look at the listopias in the catigories or genre's that I know I like and find some there.

How do you find books?

message 24: by Nathan (last edited Jan 26, 2012 11:25AM) (new)

Nathan (nthnlwly) I have 320 books on my TBR list here on Goodreads. Not including a majority of the books I already own, which I haven't read. And my ever growing shelf of library books (organized by due date, lol). AND I have a ton of free e-books I've been collecting recently.

HELP! :)

Tatum | 459 comments There is no help to be had from the likes of us, we are all just as bad or worse, sorry!

message 26: by Nikki (new)

Nikki very true!!!!! Its like a black hole just keeps sucking you in further and further!!!

message 27: by Sharon (new)

Sharon (sharint) | 749 comments Before long my TBR list will be longer than my read list!

message 28: by Nikki (new)

Nikki Mine has surpassed it a LOOOOOOONNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGG time ago. I think that we all must embrace and except it!! lol

So true lol. I was fine until I joined GR-I didn't have any books on my 'to read' list! And ..."

Exactly!

message 30: by Glenda (new)

Glenda (glenda-r) In addition to keeping my to-read list on GR, I did an Excel spreadsheet so that I can sort the information. For instance, if I want to look and see all the 5 star books, I just sort that column. It has worked nicely for me.

message 31: by Johanna (new)

Johanna | 766 comments I used to have my tbr list only in goodreads, but now I started to write down a new list on my computer called "to be read 2013" ít´s the list I add to only now, so my GR one don´t go overboard. Mostly I´ve added books from this group and YA series. In GR I have loads of books in to read bookshelf that I have no idea what they are about, so I´ll try to lessen them during this year..We´ll see how it goes.

message 32: by Sheena (new)

Sheena | 174 comments I am so glad to hear all of these comments. I currently have my TBR list only on GR but there is no reasoning to it. I really like reading what my friends recommend to me. I am going to try to keep it under 50 and just read those books this year. I will have to move my Read list to a document so I can keep track of it. I love the excel idea!!

message 33: by Tatum (new)

Tatum | 459 comments I don't put TBR on Goodreads either unless I think I will read them in the next month or two. I have notepad files on my computer. They are in various categories, but include things like:
1) The rest of books in series I have read some of.
2) Books I personally have picked because I want to read.
3) Books I see people mention that I want to check into better later.
4) Books everyone and their uncle says you must read that I might.
5) Tentative lists for challenges.

No one, including me, wants to know how many books are on these lists!

message 34: by Sheena (new)

Sheena | 174 comments Tatum that is a great idea!! I will have to try that!!

message 35: by Tatum (new)

Tatum | 459 comments Sara I also never bothered to put all the books I've read before I joined this site. At some point I may put in some of my absolute all time favourite 5-star reads, but when I joined I wanted it to be everything I was reading from there on out.

message 36: by Johanna (new)

Johanna | 766 comments I think I might go for more lists as well :)

message 37: by Johanna (new)

Johanna | 766 comments It is really hard! I am slowly trying to get my gr to be read shelf into that a small amount that I would at least have a chance of reading them all this year.

message 38: by Johanna (new)

Johanna | 766 comments I now have.. only 35 books on my tbr shelf! (when I don´t count books that I left unfinished and some gr giveaways books) I just put all the maybe books to a list on my computer.

message 39: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (inexplicablybookish) | 24 comments I know this topic is a little old but I wanted to pop in to say I love to use GR for my TBR list! Yes, my TBR list is, of course, massive because of that. But I like to have an easily accessible list anywhere I go (can log into GR from my phone!), and it is fun to look back and see what books I've added over the years and when. Someday I might have to do a personal challenge to clear off all TBRs that are over a certain age, or were added a certain year and month, just for fun! Of course there is a huge lump of books from when I joined, but otherwise my TBR list reflects my interests and desires at a certain period of time and it's fun to have a record of it here!

I like the idea of going through some of it though and sub-dividing it to have goals for clearing it off. Like putting a certain number on a "To Read in 2012" list as well. That would help me to focus and motivate me to get the number down to something a bit less ridiculous ;)

message 40: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments I use the GR list as my main list, and then because I'm working on challenges, I keep an Excel spreadsheet of the ones I expect to read in the next couple of months and which challenges they each correspond to.

message 41: by Melissa (new)

Melissa (missie322) | 208 comments i have a notebook i take to the bookstore with me for certain books i want. I also got the reading journal "Read, Remember, Recommend" for Christmas ... you can list books you have read ... has lists of all the book winners for this century .. I would like to set up an excel sheet by author but I haven't done that yet!

That's an interesting idea, that your TBR list shows your interests from a certain time in your life. Never thought of it that way!
