Delaney This book was translated from Australia and the book was dark and left me with mixed weird emotions. The ending left me a odd feeling too. What kind of emotion did this book get to you?

Ruka yeah i agree with you. it was very...depressing? That's not quite the word for it either. It's sort of haunted... They were just kids yet because of one kid who thought everything was nothing, they made a mess of all their lives. i wonder what the author was thinking while writing this!?!

Delaney But in a way I don't know if the author's intention to have such a weird feeling or she wanted to spread something that many thought already?

J Artistically beautiful in a creepy way. Personally, I believe the author is sending out strong messages as to how members in our society disrespect the traditions, beliefs and freedoms of others for the sake of political correctness. Another message is if we cannot define who we are, then there are others who will define who we are. There are plenty of people out there who will tell you how to act, what you need to believe, feel, and will make your decisions for you if you allow them.

Ditto.

Antonia When I read the table of context I was just excited to read this book and I think that the story is really ... let's say interesting ...
It gives so much food for thoughts about society and peer pressure but what disappointed me a lot was the fact that the table of context already contained the whole story! It could have been so suspense-packed and thrilling but I knew almost everything before it happened in the book.
And somehow I didn't like the style of writing, just my personal opinion.

Mia R I didn't like this book. The kids were just too wildly unrealistic. I understand that the author was trying to portray a dark, primal side of humanity through kids. That's a good idea, and it's done especially well in Lord of the Flies. Here though... it's just a group of kids who go psycho right the hell out of nowhere. As someone who remember what middle school was like, I'm pretty confident that a regular group of kids wouldn't start losing it just because of some boy who sat around in a tree. Their actions were completely ridiculous and bizarre! And then she has the whole "life is meaningless" message. The message felt pointless. "Life is meaningless". So what? I recognize that she was trying to be deep with this book, but it's just not done well.

I agree it's not really realistic, but I think it's meant to be like a fable - about reality, but not realistic at a literal level. While it may not feature talking animals, it even has a moral at the end, and the tone has much in common with fables.

Aniza Elya love it!its very deep but also disturbing..
