What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

Ok, this was NOT 'Spaceship Under the Apple Tree'. The book is written in the first person, from the perspective of a boy (I *think* his name was Charlie). He has a group of friends that he talks about, I *think* he ends up being from another planet and he needs to get back there via a spaceship. Does anyone have any clue what I might be talking about? Thanks much in advance for any help....

Alan Mendelsohn, the Boy From Mars possibly?

No Charlie, but the story about a boy who is from Mars, altho the story is not from his perspective.

There was a boy, fairly sure his name was Charlie. Story is told from his perspective. There was a "gang", or at least a group of boys that he was part of, but I remember having the sense that he knew he was different from the rest of them, and I *think* it's because he ends up being an alien.

I also seem to remember not knowing his name until sometime in the middle of the book, when he quotes one of his friends saying something about him. Sorry if this is not much to go on......
