Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 590 comments Lover Eternal (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #2) by J.R. Ward Lover Eternal, by J.R. Ward
In the shadows of the night in Caldwell, New York, there's a deadly turf war raging between vampires and their slayers. There exists a secret bound of brothers like no other-six vampire warriors, defenders of their race. Possessed by a deadly beast Rhage is the most dangerous of the Black Dagger Brotherhood.

Within the brotherhood, Rhage is the vampire with the strongest appetites. He's the best fighter, the quickest to act on his impulses, and the most voracious lover-for inside him burns ferocious curse cast by the Scribe Virgin. Owned by this dark side, Rhage fears the time when his inner dragon is unleashed, making him a danger to everyone around him.

Mary Luce, a survivor of many hardships is unwittingly thrown into the vampire world and reliant to Rhage's protection. With a life-threatening curse of her own, Mary is not looking for love. She lost her faith in miracles years ago. But when Rhage's intense animal attraction turns into something more emotional, he knows that he must make Mary his alone. And while their enemies close in, Mary fights desperately to gain life eternal with the one she loves...

Carol Cork *Young at Heart Oldie* (httpsrakesandrascalswordpresscom) I'd like to join in this Buddy Read as well. I have read the book but it was so long ago that it will be like reading it anew!

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 590 comments Lisa Kay’s Questions for Chapters 1 - 7

1. Butch is cracking me up again. Should we do a headcount to see who all does and doesn’t like him? Why did Ms. Ward open with him?

2. So, what is the deal with Rhage – or “Hollywood”? I was wondering if he was conceited or just a “man whore”? Then I find out this characteristic is due to a buildup of “physical frustration” and sex keeps “it” calm. Talk about TSB (view spoiler) I do feel sorry for his 90 plus years of hell in front of him. The ugly thing he changes into is the dark side of Hollywood’s special effects. Will we find out what he did to piss off the Scribe Virgin? Will there be a way to lessen his sentence?

3. I like Mary. You? I guess it is a good thing Vishous warned Rhage that she’ll be (view spoiler) I’m betting Rhage will be able to cure her leukemia. What say you?

4. Good Gravy Beans! Shelfari.com shows 64 characters for this book! Anywayz… So, who is John? He, of course, is not listed. Why do Mary and Bella think he is a “boy” when he’s in his twenties?

5. I like Bella; does she get her own story?

6. Again, I’m not liking the lessers. Those sections are bugging me again. Anyone else feel this way?

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 590 comments Lisa Kay’s Questions for Chapters 8 – 14

7. Well, I wasn’t expecting Mary’s (view spoiler) You? I don’t know if you are aware of this or not, but “antidisestablishmentarianism” is believed to be the longest word in the English language. LOL! What a crack up.

8. Why did she lie to him? Well, I’m assuming she lied.

9. Okay, so John was born with those scars and he has “dreams” of blood. What does this all mean?

10. I’m a little lost. Did they wipe her mind after the John interview and that is why she can’t remember Rhage in the diner? And “Hal”? I can’t get used to him being called “Hal” – LOL! Just doesn’t fit.

11. Have you ever had another female try to pick up the date you were with? I have. Luckily, my ex had some class and ignored the tramp. I mean, Cheese & Crackers!, we both had wedding rings on. Of course, this was my first husband and he was handsome as sin. Looked like Paul Newman.

12. Whoa. He’s not zapping her memory and she’s really putting up the “not interested” indicators. And he sucked the blood from her finger. (Which surprised me – mostly because he didn’t become “berserk.” I guess no shades of Twilight in this story.) However are they going to work this out?

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 590 comments @ Jenny

#1 – I don’t know if they get their own book or not.

#2 – Yes, I like that JRW took it to a deeper level. That surprised me.

#4 – I don’t have a good “read” on him either.

#5. – Yeah, I just checked. Their story is in Lover Awakened (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #3) by J.R. Ward .

#6 – I know! I was like. You’re going to try to get me to feel sorry for this dude b/c he’s working on remembering his old name – yet he then goes out and kills a woman? Nah.

#7 – Me too. ☺

#8 – Yeah, that was a great scene on the audiobook.

#9 – Now, there’s a theory. I don’t know.

#10 – Good. I thought my audio skipped or something.

#12. – Yes! Loved that scene.

Carol Cork *Young at Heart Oldie* (httpsrakesandrascalswordpresscom) I'm a bit behind because I'll start reading it today but from memory :

1. - Yes, Butch and Marissa get their own book Lover Revealed (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #4) by J.R. Ward

4. - John's story is a strand running throughout the series.

9. - Jenny - just say your theory is a good one.

Lina Lisa Kay’s Questions for Chapters 1 - 7

1. Butch is cracking me up again. Should we do a headcount to see who all does and doesn’t like him? Why did Ms. Ward open with him?
I definitely like him. I'm assuming because he was "unfinished business" from the last book. We endned the last book curious about his happy ending.

I'm a little confused by "the beast" he turns into: is it a dragon, or just like a dragon? I'm thinking we'll find out how he was cursed when he and his romantic interest exchange back stories and backwash. And surely when he does some kind of good deed and falls in luurve, his sentence will be revoked on good behaviour...

3. I like Mary. You? I guess it is a good thing Vishous warned Rhage that she’ll be (view spoiler) I’m betting Rhage will be able to cure her leukemia. What say you? Yep, I've got my fingers crossed that's the way it turns out, even though I'm thinking that might be too predictable...

4. Good Gravy Beans! Shelfari.com shows 64 characters for this book! Anywayz… So, who is John? He, of course, is not listed. Why do Mary and Bella think he is a “boy” when he’s in his twenties? A reincarnated vamp is my guess. I thought of Darius too, but then the "Tehrror" name tag threw me for a loop. He probably just looks really young so they keep thinking he's a boy.

5. I like Bella; does she get her own story? Woohoo that she's in the next book :-)

6. Again, I’m not liking the lessers. Those sections are bugging me again. Anyone else feel this way? No, I thought they added some interesting dimensions in the last book. I've got to admit, for the Brotherhood to be truly kickass, they've got to have some truly evil enemies... the Lessers fit that really well.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 590 comments @ CaroB

#1 – Ah! Good point. I forgot about that.

#2 – Well, I hope he is a dragon so I can use him for my dragon challenge.

#4 – You ladies are making me put my thinking cap on.

#6 – Oh, goodie! Someone to play “devil’s advocate” – I love it. ☺

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 590 comments Lisa Kay’s Questions for Chapters 15 – 21

13. Did you think Tohrment came down too hard on Rhage in the gym in Chapter 16?

14. I appreciated how open, honest and real Mary was with Rhage about her leukemia. I read so many romance books that are all about “come here, come here, come here, go away, go away, go away…” that this felt like a legitimate reason to standoffish toward him. Comments.

15. Whoa. I thought they were going to “do it” right up against the tree! Then those stupid lessors showed up. Was Rhage pushing her too fast? What about his bringing in his pack? He was pretty casual about trying to protect her; think he pulled it off?

16. I was thinking Rhage should do a version of “50 First Dates” when he was contemplating whether or not to wipe Mary’s memory. Good idea?

17. Nosferatu ! LOL! I love his video choice! But, at least he got her to call him by his right name. I think he just wants to hear her say it. ☺ Thoughts.

18. Okay, who is the guy that showed up at John apartment? Tohrment or Wrath? Certainly not one of the lessors, right? Please tell me not.

19. Really loved the ice cream therapy. I was surprised Mary has been “clinically dead” twice. Neat that Rhage is awed by her having been to “The Fade”. Comments.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 590 comments Lisa Kay’s Questions for Chapters 22 – 28

20. Seems like Mary took a while to realize Rhage wanted to be more than friends. But, what with all her hospital “battle scars,” I totally got her insecurities. Do you agree, or did it take too long?

21. I was surprised Rhage took her (view spoiler) Were you?

22. Well drat! Rhage is going to get in trouble with the Scribe Virgin again. I was hoping he’d get some years knocked off; now I’m worried he’ll get some added to his curse. What do you think she’ll do?

23. LMAO over Rhage’s sleep attire! No question here, just cracking up.

24. Rhage chose honesty and restraint. Were you surprised.? Still, he didn’t explain why he had recently just taken eight females. I’d say that was an important detail, wouldn’t you?

25. Well, that was a hell of a way to leave John! What’s going to happen? Do you mind these type of cliffhangers at the end of chapters? Even if the start of the next chapter isn't about the cliffhanger?

26. Oh! Rhage said (view spoiler) Comments?

27. So, Mary (view spoiler)

28. Whoa! I was surprised Mary said (view spoiler)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 590 comments These questions are beginning to sound more like my own internal dialogue than questions… but since hardly anyone is piping up with answers, I’m just going to ramble away.

Lisa Kay’s Questions for Chapters 29 – 35

29. Okay, I wasn’t expecting that type of punishment. How do you think Mary handled what happen, her interaction with the “brothers,” and her connection to Rhage’s punishment?

30. Drat again! I was hoping the Scribe Virgin had slipped up and forgot about Rhage’s curse. I know, I’m naïve. How long did he get a reprieve? Did I miss that on the audio, or was it just glossed over?

31. Rhage has a bit of a tantrum there – when Mary didn’t want to stay if he was going to seek out others to feed from. Geeze! Can’t he see her side of it? Especially as he is the one who compared it to the sex act. And later he suggests she watch? Who did you side with?

32. So, if I’m getting this right, fighting also helps Rhage’s beast? Does V have some sort of soothing ability? He calmed Rhage when he was about to kill that civilian.

33. “What’s one more day?” Oh. My. God! V didn’t take John with him! Eek! I’m caring about John’s storyline a bit more than I expected. You?

34. Okay, what’s the deal with Mr. X & Mr. O? Are they going to end up enemies? Come to a conclusion? Or does this antagonism just go on into the next books? And who’s killing the people in the park?

35. Phew! Amended: John going to go with Tohrment. Were you as relieved as I was? I just want them to get safely inside the compound. Comments.

Lina Lisa Kay’s Questions for Chapters 8 – 14

7. Well, I wasn’t expecting Mary’s [voice to be the turn-on for Rhage. You? I don’t know if you are aware of this or not, but “antidisestablishmentarianism” is believed to be the longest word in the English language. LOL! What a crack up.
I knew about the word, and I was really pleasantly surprised about the voice... I completely get how a voice would be a turn-on, and I think it says more about a person than looks :-)

8. Why did she lie to him? Well, I’m assuming she lied. How do you know she lied??? I'm not up to that bit yet.

9. Okay, so John was born with those scars and he has “dreams” of blood. What does this all mean? I'm back to thinking he's one of the original brothers reincarnated but not sure how or who.

10. I’m a little lost. Did they wipe her mind after the John interview and that is why she can’t remember Rhage in the diner? And “Hal”? I can’t get used to him being called “Hal” – LOL! Just doesn’t fit. I know! I actually caught myself thinking Hal was a silly name for him, and then had to laugh. Cos Rhage isn't even a name! Yep, they did wipe her memory.

11. Have you ever had another female try to pick up the date you were with? I have. Luckily, my ex had some class and ignored the tramp. I mean, Cheese & Crackers!, we both had wedding rings on. Of course, this was my first husband and he was handsome as sin. Looked like Paul Newman. oh, Paul Newman. He was stunning! I have to admit that very good looking men intimidate me. I've had young ladies flirt with Iain, but nothing we didn't laugh about later together. I think it embarrasses him more than it did me, I just found it amusing.

12. Whoa. He’s not zapping her memory and she’s really putting up the “not interested” indicators. And he sucked the blood from her finger. (Which surprised me – mostly because he didn’t become “berserk.” I guess no shades of Twilight in this story.) However are they going to work this out? Can I pull a Midu and say I still need to RAFO

Oh, goodie! Someone to talk to about this book! Thanks, CaroB! ☺

#7 – I had heard the word b/f but didn’t know it was the longest word. I agree with you about the voice. Just think of Elvis. He made millions. I have a theory that it is the way the little tiny hairs in the ear vibrate – and how that turns people on. **hee hee** Really, I’m serious! ☺

#8 – Oh! I can’t say a word.

#9 – Feeling wishy-washie? LOL! Or just wishie?

#11 – My second husband was clueless when a woman would flirt with him. Made me happy. LOL!

#12 – Sure, you can use it. Midu uses it when she knows the answer! LOL!

Carol Cork *Young at Heart Oldie* (httpsrakesandrascalswordpresscom) Lisa Kay’s Questions for Chapters 1 - 7

#1. I definitely like Butch as well. What about (view spoiler) So funny!

#2. I really feel for Rhage and all the crap he has to suffer. (view spoiler)

#3. I like Mary as well. I know the ending so no spoilers other than the Scribe Virgin is one mean bitch!

#4. Vampires have to go through the transition to become adults. JRW provides a glossary of terms at the front of the books and the transition is:

Critical moment in a vampire’s life when he or she transforms to an adult. Thereafter, they must drink from the opposite sex to survive and are unable to withstand sunlight. Occurs generally in the mid-twenties. Some vampires do not survive their transitions, males in particular. Prior to their transitions, vampires are physically weak, sexually unaware and unresponsive, and unable to dematerialize.

Bella is aware that John must be near his transition and that's one of the reasons she approaches the Brotherhood.

#5. I love Bella. Lover Awakened (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #3) by J.R. Ward is my favourite BDB book.

#6. I'm not fond of the Lessers but we're stuck with them!

Carol Cork *Young at Heart Oldie* (httpsrakesandrascalswordpresscom) Lisa Kay’s Questions for Chapters 8 – 14

#7. Perhaps he reacts that way because, in some way, Mary’s voice soothes the beast within him.

#8. Maybe she didn’t lie ...

#9. My bet’s on the reincarnated Darius.

#10. Her mind must have been wiped ‘off stage’ so to say. Yes, Hal was such a ridiculous name.

#11. Fortunately that’s never happened to me. But there again, my husband doesn’t even bear a passing resemblance to Paul Newman. LOL

#12. Mary has all the worries about her health and I think, at the moment, she just feels overwhelmed by Rhage. Something has to give if they are to work it out.

#1 – Yes, Butch has some funny lines. I liked, “You're getting into some kind of shape, cop.” “Aw come on now.” Butch grinned. “Don't let that shower we took go to your head.”

#3 – Eek!

#4 – Thanks for the info!

#5 – I’m looking forward to it. But wait; doesn’t it have Z in it? Scary!

#6 – That’s what CaroB says too. **sigh**

#7 – I think you’re right! ☺ The phrase was coined by William Congreve's play,
         in The Mourning Bride, 1697:
Musick has Charms to sooth a savage Breast,
To soften Rocks, or bend a knotted Oak.
I've read, that things inanimate have mov'd,
And, as with living Souls, have been inform'd,
By Magick Numbers and persuasive Sound.
What then am I? Am I more senseless grown
Than Trees, or Flint? O force of constant Woe!
'Tis not in Harmony to calm my Griefs.
Anselmo sleeps, and is at Peace; last Night
The silent Tomb receiv'd the good Old King;
He and his Sorrows now are safely lodg'd
Within its cold, but hospitable Bosom.
Why am not I at Peace?
#8 – Maybe!

#9 – Ohhhh! Is that a hint?

#11 – LMAO!

#12 – Yes, he’s a bit overwhelming!

Sans Sans answers for Chapters 1 - 35

1. Butch is cracking me up again. Should we do a headcount to see who all does and doesn’t like him? Why did Ms. Ward open with him?

I love Butch. I think it was good to open with him, ease into the story a bit.

LMAO at TSB! We do and his sentence is...altered.

3. I like Mary. You? I guess it is a good thing Vishous warned Rhage that she’ll be (view spoiler) I’m betting Rhage will be able to cure her leukemia. What say you?
I do like Mary, but remember that humans can't be made into vampires, so no cure that way.

4. Good Gravy Beans! Shelfari.com shows 64 characters for this book! Anywayz… So, who is John? He, of course, is not listed. Why do Mary and Bella think he is a “boy” when he’s in his twenties?
I love John Matthew!!! He's pretrans, so he looks like he's a pre-teen.

5. I like Bella; does she get her own story?
Next book!

6. Again, I’m not liking the lessers. Those sections are bugging me again. Anyone else feel this way?
I skip them. ^o^

7. Well, I wasn’t expecting Mary’s (view spoiler)
It was a good way for Rhage to notice her without the burdens of physical appearance. ^_~

8. Why did she lie to him? Well, I’m assuming she lied.
Wait, what lie are we talking about?

9. Okay, so John was born with those scars and he has “dreams” of blood. What does this all mean?
He's a vampire!

10. I’m a little lost. Did they wipe her mind after the John interview and that is why she can’t remember Rhage in the diner? And “Hal”? I can’t get used to him being called “Hal” – LOL! Just doesn’t fit.
Yep. And I know, right?

11. Have you ever had another female try to pick up the date you were with? I have. Luckily, my ex had some class and ignored the tramp. I mean, Cheese & Crackers!, we both had wedding rings on. Of course, this was my first husband and he was handsome as sin. Looked like Paul Newman.
My ex's ex would always call him when she knew we were out together. He defended her at first (they were still living together), but when she tried to barge into the apartment when I was staying with him one night (a night she assured him she would be staying with her new boyfriend), he finally wised up and told her to back off. Of course, as soon as she moved out, he broke up with me. ~_~

12. Whoa. He’s not zapping her memory and she’s really putting up the “not interested” indicators. And he sucked the blood from her finger. (Which surprised me – mostly because he didn’t become “berserk.” I guess no shades of Twilight in this story.) However are they going to work this out?
Thank the gods and little demons there is no Twilight here. ^o^

13. Did you think Tohrment came down too hard on Rhage in the gym in Chapter 16?
A little, but it's his job to keep these guys in line.

14. I appreciated how open, honest and real Mary was with Rhage about her leukemia. I read so many romance books that are all about “come here, come here, come here, go away, go away, go away…” that this felt like a legitimate reason to standoffish toward him. Comments.
I agree. Mary doesn't play games and she knows what's in store for her. It's very realistic.

15. Whoa. I thought they were going to “do it” right up against the tree! Then those stupid lessors showed up. Was Rhage pushing her too fast? What about his bringing in his pack? He was pretty casual about trying to protect her; think he pulled it off?
I think that WAS Rhage moving at slow speeds! I still can't figure out why she's so comfortable with him crashing at her place on their what, second date?

16. I was thinking Rhage should do a version of “50 First Dates” when he was contemplating whether or not to wipe Mary’s memory. Good idea?
LOL! Not really. ^_~

17. Nosferatu ! LOL! I love his video choice! But, at least he got her to call him by his right name. I think he just wants to hear her say it. ☺ Thoughts.
I agree.

18. Okay, who is the guy that showed up at John apartment? Tohrment or Wrath? Certainly not one of the lessors, right? Please tell me not.
Tohr, wasn't it?

19. Really loved the ice cream therapy. I was surprised Mary has been “clinically dead” twice. Neat that Rhage is awed by her having been to “The Fade”. Comments
She's strong enough and determined enough to fight for what she wants.

20. Seems like Mary took a while to realize Rhage wanted to be more than friends. But, what with all her hospital “battle scars,” I totally got her insecurities. Do you agree, or did it take too long?
I agree, it worked well.

21. I was surprised Rhage took her (view spoiler) Were you?
Not really. He's already bonding with her and needs her safe.

22. Well drat! Rhage is going to get in trouble with the Scribe Virgin again. I was hoping he’d get some years knocked off; now I’m worried he’ll get some added to his curse. What do you think she’ll do?
*zips lips*

23. LMAO over Rhage’s sleep attire! No question here, just cracking up.
Same here. ^o^

24. Rhage chose honesty and restraint. Were you surprised.? Still, he didn’t explain why he had recently just taken eight females. I’d say that was an important detail, wouldn’t you?
If I was Mary, I wouldn't be willing to listen to any excuses about my man sleeping around like that.

25. Well, that was a hell of a way to leave John! What’s going to happen? Do you mind these type of cliffhangers at the end of chapters? Even if the start of the next chapter isn't about the cliffhanger?
Since I can't stop reading, I don't mind cliffhangers. ^o^

26. Oh! Rhage said (view spoiler) Comments?
He knows what he wants and needs and is man enough to go after it.

27. So, Mary (view spoiler)
With V's dreams, literal definitions aren't necessarily accurate.

28. Whoa! I was surprised Mary said (view spoiler)
I can see why she did it.

29. Okay, I wasn’t expecting that type of punishment. How do you think Mary handled what happen, her interaction with the “brothers,” and her connection to Rhage’s punishment?
She's definitely a fighter! And I think she's finally realizing how serious Rhage is about her.

30. Drat again! I was hoping the Scribe Virgin had slipped up and forgot about Rhage’s curse. I know, I’m naïve. How long did he get a reprieve? Did I miss that on the audio, or was it just glossed over?
It's glossed over. When it's over, you'll know.

31. Rhage has a bit of a tantrum there – when Mary didn’t want to stay if he was going to seek out others to feed from. Geeze! Can’t he see her side of it? Especially as he is the one who compared it to the sex act. And later he suggests she watch? Who did you side with?
I can understand both sides. He's trying to give her everything and she won't even be honest when he asks her what she's thinking or feeling. I'd get frustrated too.

32. So, if I’m getting this right, fighting also helps Rhage’s beast? Does V have some sort of soothing ability? He calmed Rhage when he was about to kill that civilian.
Yes. Not really, I think it's more psychological. Like breathing into a paper bag. ^o^

33. “What’s one more day?” Oh. My. God! V didn’t take John with him! Eek! I’m caring about John’s storyline a bit more than I expected. You?
I said it before, I love John!!!

34. Okay, what’s the deal with Mr. X & Mr. O? Are they going to end up enemies? Come to a conclusion? Or does this antagonism just go on into the next books? And who’s killing the people in the park?
They have different agendas.

35. Phew! Amended: John going to go with Tohrment. Were you as relieved as I was? I just want them to get safely inside the compound. Comments.
Yes!

I'm happy to do a set of questions, but I'll have to do a major catch-up on reading to get past the chapters you've already posted for. Is that ok?

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 590 comments Well... okay! ☺ But only because you're so cute.

Lina OK, I'm confused. I've just gotten to the first sex scene, and she didn't lie. Did she? So what was V talking about talking his fate.... or did he mean the scribe virgin???

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 590 comments I don't know, Caro! I was wondering WTH too! (See DQ#27.) All I have is more questions. You think he meant the Scribe Virgin? Wow. I'll have to think on that. Why?
