Johanna | 766 comments Thank you! I was about to do a whole update to the new ones so I´ll check them when I get home from work :)

message 52: by Johanna (new)

Johanna | 766 comments Do we have a place for members to tell about their blogs or other kind advertisement?

message 53: by Ashley (new)

Ashley I don't think so, but I think that would be an awesome idea! I have been thinking of starting a blog myself. :)

message 54: by Johanna (new)

Johanna | 766 comments I have a while ago :)

message 55: by Sheena (new)

Sheena | 174 comments I was going to read through the thread but its super long. Sorry, I think it might be faster to just ask.

How do I put a line through the title of a book I have read??

message 56: by Johanna (last edited Jun 26, 2012 10:40AM) (new)

Johanna | 766 comments do you mean like this

book title

if so you need to put <> and a letter s inside those marks, before the title

and after the title <> with: /s inside

message 57: by Sheena (new)

Sheena | 174 comments Thanks a ton....

message 58: by Melissa (new)

Melissa (missie322) | 208 comments so dumb me accidentally deleted the post w/ the list of books i've read so far ... anyway to get it back ?

message 59: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments I'm sorry, Melissa--once you delete a post, it's gone. At least as far as I know. I tried to do a little digging in the help topics too, but they don't seem to have a recover function. :(

Anyone else know of a solution here? I've accidentally deleted things before too, and it's just awful.

message 60: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments Hi Mondalia, not at all a stupid question! You can do both for challenges--I had the EXACT same question when I joined. :)

And as for TBR twins: TBR twins is a monthly activity you can sign up for. You'll be assigned a twin (and to the best of our abilities, we try to assign twins with similar taste in books), and you and a twin will pick a book you have in common on your to-read lists (commonly referred to as TBR lists). You'll read it together over the month. It's really just a way to help you get through your to-read list in a fun way--you'll have someone else to discuss the book with.

message 61: by Mondalia (last edited Aug 16, 2012 01:25PM) (new)

Mondalia | 3 comments Thanks for this quick answer, it helps my a lot;)
And thanks for this group!
TBR twins sounds interesting

message 62: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (carrie_s) | 130 comments Sorry if this question has been asked before, but what are the general rules or thoughts on using audiobooks to achieve our goal? I can't decide how I feel about it, and wondered what others' thoughts are on it. Thanks!

message 63: by Nathan (new)

Nathan (nthnlwly) I'd say it's fine, Carrie. You're still 'reading' in a sense. I know a few people who only read that way!
Anyway, I'm for it. ;)

message 64: by Barb (new)

Barb Oh boy, if I couldn't count my audiobooks for challenge tasks, I'd never finish a single challenge LOL

message 65: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (carrie_s) | 130 comments Thanks for the comments, Trevor and Barb. I was inclined to count them, but was undecided. It's interesting, though to compare to two experiences. Although I am "reading" in a sense, like you said, Trevor, but the passivity of the audiobook makes me feel like I'm cheating a bit. But, I'm counting them!

message 66: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments I'm listening to Steve Jobs on audiobook right now, and I'm totally counting it!

While it's more passive, it also takes a lot longer, so I feel like it evens out.

I can't even imagine how long that is going to take you to finish! That is one thick book.

message 68: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments It's about 24 hours total. I'm right about 15:30. Sigh.

message 69: by Nathan (new)

Nathan (nthnlwly) How is it so far Kara? I want to read it but it's just so daunting! Big thick books like that always make me nervous. >.<

message 70: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments I'm totally in love with it. Top ten books I've read (even though I'm not exactly reading) so far this year, for sure. He's such an interesting, brilliant, flawed person. He does AWFUL things, but he also does genius things. It's amazing.

People in business reference his practices quite a lot, so I'm excited to be able to take part in those conversations.

message 71: by Nathan (last edited Oct 03, 2012 01:50PM) (new)

Nathan (nthnlwly) Sounds great! I should get on it. ;)

Elizabeth | 11 comments How do I cover my spoilers when I type comments?

message 73: by Kara (last edited Oct 03, 2012 05:54PM) (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments Elizabeth wrote: "How do I cover my spoilers when I type comments?"

You can put
before your spoiler and
at the end. Just replace []s with <>s.

message 74: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth | 11 comments so like this? : (view spoiler)

message 75: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth | 11 comments Elizabeth wrote: "so like this? : [spoilers removed]"
Ah, IT WORKS!

message 76: by Nathan (last edited Oct 04, 2012 03:50PM) (new)

Nathan (nthnlwly) If you click "(some html is ok)" at the top right of the comment box, you'll find all kinds of little tricks, Elizabeth! Italics and boldface. Stuff like that. :)

I have most of my audiobooks in iTunes so I can transfer them to my iPod when I'm ready to listen to them. Each book gets its own playlist, so I can tell at a glance how long the book is. Most books are between 12 and 16 hours long, some longer, a few shorter. I laughed out loud -- then groaned! -- when I saw the 'listening time' necessary for A Game of Thrones: 1.4 DAYS!!

message 78: by Nathan (new)

Nathan (nthnlwly) Oh good idea Barb! That is really smart, creating different playlists for each audiobook.

message 79: by Christina (new)

Christina I can't find where I had seen it mentioned before, so I figured I would ask here. What is the "rule" on reading one book and applying it to multiple challenges?

tia

message 80: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments That's absolutely allowed! The only thing you can't do is use the same book for multiple tasks within a challenge.

message 81: by Christina (new)

Christina Gotcha! Thank you =). Maybe I'll be able to complete multiple challenges now hehe

message 82: by Jojobean (new)

Jojobean hi. I just wanted to ask something. will any of the yearly challenges that will end in december be repeated next year? or are they're just going to be new challenges?

message 83: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments Joanne♥ wrote: "hi. I just wanted to ask something. will any of the yearly challenges that will end in december be repeated next year? or are they're just going to be new challenges?"

The Listopia Challenge will be repeated next year, but the rest will be new challenges. We're trying to keep it fresh, but we're also talking about reintroducing some of them at the midway point next year. So don't worry! If you have favorites, you'll probably see them again.

message 84: by Ana (new)

Ana | 131 comments i have a question in my corner is it ok if i keep track of challenges i have at other bookclubs too?

message 85: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments Absolutely, Ana! Your corner is your space.

message 86: by Lilac (new)

Lilac (lilac_wales) | 910 comments When abouts are the January and first quarter challenges going to be posted?

message 87: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments We're starting to post them this week. Thanks for your patience!

message 88: by Lilac (new)

Lilac (lilac_wales) | 910 comments Thank you! I'm just really excited about 2013 and can't wait to decide which books to read first! :)

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 169 comments This is in regards to moderating a group. One, how do you "sticky" a thread? Two, how do you close a thread to comments?

I've got a personal group just to keep track of all of my challenges and I cannot find a way to do either of those things. Thanks!

Click the "(edit)" link beside the title of a thread and there are checkboxes there that say "mark as important" and "close thread to comments". :)

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 169 comments Thanks, Trevor!

message 92: by Carrie (new)

Carrie Bivens | 29 comments I have a few books I'm finishing up here before January 1st. Can I use those for my 2013 challenges & lists?

message 93: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments Only books you finish in 2013 can be counted toward challenges in 2013. If you finish the book this year, you can count it toward one of our 2012 challenges.

message 94: by Sharon (new)

Sharon (sharint) | 749 comments I have a couple books I really want to read right now but I'm saving them for January challenges!

message 95: by Toni (new)

Toni | 234 comments Is there a way to "bookmark" my corner and challenge threads? I find myself searching through the list and wondered if there was an easier way that I'm missing. Thanks for helping this technologically challenged reader!!

message 96: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments Toni, the way I do it is to create bookmarks in my browser, like this:

And I do that by dragging the little "page" icon next to the URL into my link bar. It's a little different for different browsers. I use Chrome (but Firefox is very similar).

message 97: by Toni (new)

Toni | 234 comments Great - thank you. I will do that! :)

You're a Chrome user! haha ;)

message 99: by Lisa S (new)

Lisa S (kasey_k_fan) I'm sorry if this question ha been asked already, but I'm new in this group.

Do we have to pick our books ahead of time in the challenges or can we post them as the fit the requirements?

message 100: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments You can post them as you read them--totally no need to set them up ahead of time. I certainly don't, but a few people do.
