Lisa S (kasey_k_fan) Thanks Kara! I can't do it either. LOL

Squirrel (squirrelysquirrel) | 53 comments Question: Does rereading a book potentially count? I read The Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man four years ago (didn't understand a decent amount of it then) and am now going to reread it sometime in the near future.

Thanks! :]

message 103: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments Yes, Squirrel. Rereads are totally acceptable. :)

message 104: by Lilac (new)

Lilac (lilac_wales) | 910 comments Erm... what happened to the old group picture? I liked that one so much and it just went perfectly with the rest of GR.
The top picture (forgot the name) on the group home page is very nice but the profile picture one isn't as nice as it was last year TBH.

message 105: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments Lilac, we totally hear you.

We're trying out a new look and feel for the group for a few reasons: (1) we needed a banner (I think we're practically the only group on Goodreads that didn't have one), (2) the banner and the profile pic should match, and (3) all images we used needed to be licensed for public use.

Regarding the third reason: as Nikki had chosen last year's image and we couldn't confirm where it was from, we thought it was safest to change it to something that was definitely free to use or share...just in case. As the group grows, those kinds of things become more and more important. There have been some issues with this in other groups lately, and we wanted to make sure everything we were doing here was completely above board.

We're still messing around with it, and your feedback here is really good for us while we play around with images. Keep it coming. :)

Lilac (lilac_wales) | 910 comments Ah, okay. Thanks for answering :)

Sharon (sharint) | 749 comments Will someone move my folder to the 101 + group, there are too many participants from 50-100 and it's hard to find my own! I changed the title. Plus I know I will read at least that many. Thanks

You're all set!

Ellie | 54 comments Can we start the Members Challenge today? The final task list hasn't been posted yet, so I wanted to check first.

message 110: by Kara (last edited Jan 06, 2013 04:56PM) (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments Thank you, Ellie (and Melissa)! I'd been traveling and had forgotten to open up the thread. It's now open, and you may begin.

message 111: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Nelson (suitedforliterature) | 167 comments Hey mods! So I'm getting a billion notifications every time I login to Goodreads from this group and I love checking in on things, but it's too much and I can't for the life of me figure out how to follow only some of the threads and not every single one. Please help! Thanks!

message 112: by Ashley (new)

Ashley Hi Rachel! Let me see if I can help you out. You can choose which threads you would like to get notifications from.

1) At the bottom of the comment box you type in, you should see a box that says "Notify me when people comment in this group".
2) If you click on the word "Edit", you can choose which option you want for each thread. If you don't want to see as many notifications...the none option would probably be recommended.

I hope this helps you out! :)

message 113: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments Hi Rachel! If you go to the group homepage, you should see something that says something like "You are a member -- Edit." If you click edit, you should be able to change your settings to receive no notifications or emails. I'm sorry--I usually provide pictures with instructions, but I'm traveling now and won't be a able to do so before Monday. Let us know if you have any questions!

message 114: by Kaitlin (new)

Kaitlin (kait-k) | 537 comments What's the difference between a Group Read and a Buddy Read? Is it just that the Group Read is voted on and the Buddy Reads just happen when people feel like reading things together? Thanks.

message 115: by Ashley (last edited Jan 25, 2013 06:18PM) (new)

Ashley Hi Kaitlin!

I guess you could say that now!

In the past, our Buddy Reads were only 2 or 3 people discussing the book. But now we have a lot of people reading the same books, so we basically now have Buddy Group Reads whenever people would like them to be set up.

We always just have 1 Group Read that we vote on each month.

Our TBR Twins is basically how our Buddy Reads used to be.

Does that make sense? I'll try to explain better if not. :)

message 116: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments Group reads also suit each month's theme and are nominated by the group. Buddy reads are much more casual. :)

message 117: by Kaitlin (new)

Kaitlin (kait-k) | 537 comments Great. Thanks ladies!

message 118: by Jack (new)

Jack (jack_) I love the new thumbnail photo that Lucia submitted! I was just wondering if there was going to be a new masthead to match. Not that it matters anyway, I'm just wondering, you know!

message 119: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments Right now, we're not planning to change the masthead, but who knows what the future may bring? Maybe we'll do another contest. :)

message 120: by Jack (new)

Jack (jack_) Cool! Thanks Kara. :-)

message 121: by Jack (last edited Feb 11, 2013 03:40PM) (new)

Jack (jack_) I saw that that the feedback group are offering a new challenge feature. I think this would be a great addition to the group and brilliant to help members to keep up to date with the challenges they are taking part in. Anyway here is the link if you haven't already looked: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/7...

Sorry if this has been suggestion has been considered already. Thanks :-)

message 122: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments Thanks for the suggestion, Jack! This has been in beta for a long time, and we had decided to not be one of the groups testing it out. Now that it's fully launched, we will look into its feasibility. Thank you!

message 123: by Lianne (new)

Lianne (liannevanroekel) | 245 comments Hi mods!

I don't really understand the difference between the member corners and the personal challenge topics. Is the personal challenge just for the 2013 reading challenge and the corner for keeping track of all the other challenges?

Thanks!

message 124: by Kara (last edited Feb 15, 2013 10:50AM) (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments That's exactly right, Lianne! :) The personal challenge section is where you would track the books you read over the year, and the members corner is where you can track your monthly, quarterly, and annual challenges.

message 125: by Lianne (new)

Lianne (liannevanroekel) | 245 comments Ah I didn't know for sure. Thank you!

Hi Nikki, my mod is Kara and I started a 50 books challenge for 2013: it's called "b's 50 books challenge" (I think!) I have been so busy that I have not updated my corner and now I cannot find it. If anyone could help me out I would appreciate it. Sorry about this. Thanks.

message 128: by Kara (new)

Kara (karaayako) | 3984 comments Thank you, Ellie! :)

But this is a good reminder...it's probably time for a new thread. I could see how it would be confusing for those who joined after Nikki left.
