Heather (messybar) | 1307 comments It's All About The "New" Year - January Challenge

With 2012 beginning, several of us have resolutions, wishes and goals. For January's Challenge, we're going to mix all of those together.

January's Goals and Rules
1. Read six (6) books between January 1-31, 2012
2. No Re-Reads! Since this is a start to a new year, dive into something new-to-you. Audiobooks and anthologies are just fine though.
3. Two (2) books must be books that have been on your TBR list for more than five (5) months. Some of us try to make resolutions to clean up or organize our life and this is just one small way to help us stick to cleaning up our TBR Lists. (If you've been on Goodreads for less than that amount of time, just read books that have been on your TBR lists the longest.)
4. One (1) book must be Readers Choice. No category, limitation or other criteria needs to be met. Just something you wish to read.

Categories for remaining books:
You can choose 3 separate categories or use one category more than once.

1. New Year's (Jan. 1st): Read a book with "New" in the title, or that is a new series or author to you.
2. Cuddle Up Day (Jan. 6th): Choose a book with a cuddling couple on the cover, a fire or fireplace on the cover, OR read a book of your choosing cuddled up at your favorite chair/couch/bed.
3. Friday the 13th: Read a horror story or a book involving murder(s).
4. National Blood Donor Month: Read a book about vampires or medical professionals (or both).
5. 123rd Tournament of Roses Parade (Jan. 2nd): Read a book involving (American) football or a book with roses on the cover or in the title.
6. What's the Weather Like?: Depending on where you live, January can be a 'cold' or 'hot' month. So, to get your mind off what it's doing outside, read a book that has the opposite weather you're currently living with.

February looks better for me, but you have it marked here. Is that a problem?

message 28: by Lisa Kay, Moderator (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments Oh, Hayley! I loved Get A Clue by Jill Shalvis Suddenly You by Lisa Kleypas (and the dress on the cover!); so funny! Shelter Mountain (Virgin River, #2) by Robyn Carr was one of my favorite reads from the Virgin River series and the book I thought of right off for this challenge - but no re-reads allowed! **sniffle** ☺ Just finished Dark Lover (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #1) by J.R. Ward . Hope you like all of them.

I'm reading Virgin River (Virgin River, #1) by Robyn Carr right now and love it so far :). So I wanted to continue the series :).

Also, I hope I enjoy Dark Lover (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #1) by J.R. Ward , I took it off of my TBR a long time ago and then thought I'd try again......

AND, I read my very first Lisa Kleypas book this month, and it was Christmas Eve at Friday Harbor (Friday Harbor, #1) by Lisa Kleypas which I LOVED too, so I wanted to try some of her historical romance that has been on my shelf for awhile.

Hayley (mrsjohnson1985) | 718 comments CaroB wrote: "Hayley, I'm seeing some great primary coloured covers in your list! Are you taking part in the Artist Wheel Challenge as well?"

I am :). I just haven't posted my list yet.... I'm trying to decide if I can find all the colors, I'm having a hard time finding purple/violet bookcovers.... *sigh*.

message 34: by Lisa Kay, Moderator (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments I don't know, Hayley. Dark Lover (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #1) by J.R. Ward is not for everyone, that is for sure. I made two attempts at it myself. Helped that I did it as a "buddy read."

message 35: by Hayley (new)

Hayley (mrsjohnson1985) | 718 comments Well hopefully I can get through it. I see SO many people that are friends of mine on here LOVED this book so much. I saw that you had tried it twice, and then you said you enjoyed it so I thought I'd give it a whirl! Lets hope it works out in this case.......

message 47: by Joann (new)

Joann | 495 comments I'm sure I will, Heather. I've been meaning to read that series for some time now...

message 48: by Lisa Kay, Moderator (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments Oh, those all look good, Joann. Except for #4 - I'm staying away from that one. I'll be interested in what you think.

message 49: by Joann (new)

Joann | 495 comments Uh oh, that doesn't sound good Lisa Kay. Is it that bad? I seriously have tons of others to read instead...

message 50: by Lisa Kay, Moderator (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments Well. . . I don't know how you feel about a few things. . . and I haven't read the book! So consider the source. I have a "stay-away-from-this-one" bookshelf, but I haven't even marked this one. The hero is an asshat. This is what I have heard: (view spoiler) A lot of people who I agree with on many book really liked this one -- and the series; some said they did grind their teeth, however.
