Martin Hello,

This is a very small group, with only three members ...

I have read Ulysses before, but it was a long time ago, and I find, looking into it now, a great desire to know more of its meaning. I'd be very interested in being part of a joint read.

So are the other two group members interested? In my experience you don't need many people to make it successful. All you need is the will and enthusiasm of a small group!

Martin I've put up some chapter names to help us along.

I don't know how this will go, but we can give it a try. And it may be difficult now to attract more readers if we're not starting at the beginning.

I last read Ulysses about 23 years ago, and remember enough to know roughly what's going on, but have forgotten enough to make reading it again a new experience. At that time I had in my other hand The Bloomsday Book by Harry Blamires, whch acted as a helpful guide, but finally I discarded it when I found it contained a number of errors. The problem with all these guides is like the problem of going round an Italian church with a Baedeker: you spend more time reading the Baedeker than looking at the church. So I thought this time I'd try Ulysses even without the aid of Google searches and just rely on my own wits, no matter how much I miss or misinterpret on the journey.

I doubt if I'll stick to that resolution.

A good starting point might be to confess to sections where we feel stumped.
