Gussie (a_reader_1) | 68 comments Actually, Shantaram could be out and out India. It's written by an Australian, yes but he lives in India and a mammoth story covering 1980s Bombay's underbelly couldn't be any more Indian than this. Good list, though. You already have so many of these books!

Vicky (thesevagabondshoes) | 155 comments Wow, you've got some great books there. And some of them, like Shantaram, Dubliners and Crime and Punishment are pretty epic reads. Good luck!

Janice (jamasc) Nice list! Enjoy.

Thanks, Judy! And chunksters intimidate me a LOT if I am not prepared for them before hand. In 2012 however, I have all the plans at least those which I have with me! :-)

Thanks a lot! This new year I am planning to finish all the books I have been 'saving for my retirement' 40 years later so that there'll be scope to add more books then! ;)

Gussie (a_reader_1) | 68 comments I just noticed! Why is the mother of all chunksters, A Suitable Boy not on your list? >.<

Ooh! How could I forget to add that one? Thanks for the reminder. Adding it NOW! :D

Wait, isn't Suitable Boy too big a book to be considered for a challenge like this? Thats one reason why I didn't pick it up..

Preethi (scarletohhara) | 29 comments One honest suggestion - Time traveller's wife, you'd rather see the movie than read the book. Coz the book is just about okay, and the movie is certainly better than the book, in this case.

Haha, that was exactly my reason for not including it, at first. However, it has been over ten months since I borrowed it from the Midget and more than the fact that she REALLY wants it back, she wants to discuss it with someone. Plus finishing that books is really a challenge. Hence, I included it in this list. :D

Oh! Ok...but I'll still read the book considering it was purchased with hard-earned Rakhi dough! :D
As for the movie, it has been on my torrents list forever.I'll watch it for sure! :)

Jenny (Reading Envy) (readingenvy) | 1309 comments I've added your picks to the master list(s). Personally, I thought the book of the Time Traveler's Wife was better than the movie. :)

You did? Well... for some reason I wasnt as touched by Niffenegger's words as I was touched by Rachael McAdam's action... :)

Oh! Thanks, Jenny. I hope you like them. :)
@The Time Traveller's Wife: Really now! I am curious about reading the book and watching the movie. It will definitely be the next on my list! :D

message 17: by Genia (new)

Genia Lukin The book was excellent - the film was practically gibberish. I suggest to skip the film, or, preferably, to toss it very, very far out the window. That is my personal opinion, of course.

Eugh! That bloody Rachel McAdams pokes her ugly mug in every darn good movie. She looks like a brain dead hyena, man! And has the acting skills of a 2-year old on a sugar high. The idiot practically spoilt Midnight in Paris and Sherlock Holmes for me. I am not going to watch her ruin The Time Traveller's Wife for me. I think I'll happily skip the movie.

Hahaha. I dont like her in any other movie except this one, for some strange reason. May be I didnt read like the book at all and the movie seemed much better...
