Chris (calmgrove) I see we've gone for the alphabet challenge! I'm going to count ongoing books (yes, I'm in the middle of several--am I unusual?).

anymore group challenges that people want to suggest?

message 6: by Chris (new)

Chris Stanley (christinelstanley) | 922 comments Does anyone have any ideas for a new challenge to start in January. I personally lack imagination when it comes to this kind of project, but I'm happy to set up the thread.

Chris (calmgrove) LibraryThing has a feature where you summarise a book in a haiku.

For those who aren't familiar, these are short epigrammatic poems whose features can be summed up in a haiku of my own:
The conceit is this:
five, seven, five syllables?
Summative poem!

For example, The Hobbit can be summed up as
Nasty Bagginses
stole the Precious, yess, and we
hates them forever!

Or as
Wizard at the door?
Twelve dwarves too? You'll be telling
me a dragon's next!

If you hate reviewing but love pithy comments, this might be a good challenge: haiku books you read and post them!

Chris Stanley (christinelstanley) | 922 comments We can do that, sounds like fun. I'll collect everyone's ideas and start new threads soon

Chris Stanley (christinelstanley) | 922 comments Anymore ideas for challenges in 2013? My husband (whilst in grumpy old troll mode)has suggested I challenge myself to erase the amazon website from my memory! Obviously that is not the kind of challenge we mean here!

Chris Stanley (christinelstanley) | 922 comments Looking for some new ideas for 2013, regarding games, challenges, book of the month, threads etc, so if anyone has anything in mind, please post here.

We can go with the haiku suggestion from Chris as a start

JackieB | 251 comments I like the haiku idea even though I'm rubbish at poetry. Brace yourselves for some really bad efforts from me!

message 12: by Chris (new)

Chris Stanley (christinelstanley) | 922 comments Good for you, even my ten year old is better at it than me, so we can compete for the most ridiculous!

Yay!

Kat (bookworm2017) What about using ur favourite authors name for a title of ur choice.

message 15: by Chris (new)

Chris Stanley (christinelstanley) | 922 comments Kat, I'm not sure I understand your suggestion, but that is probably just me, it's been a trying day!
Will you give us an example of what you mean and maybe start us off - thanks

message 16: by Kat (new)

Kat (bookworm2017) Sorry, I probably didn't explain properly.

My favourite author is Jane Costello

So for every letter in Jane Costello I pick a title of a book beginning with that letter.

J: Jemima J - Jane Green
A: After the Fall - Charity Norman
N: Next Accident - Lisa Gardner
E: E-mailing Allie - Julie Lawson

It can be used with authors or celebrities or your own name, its a good way of mixing up your reading, also can used authors as well, but more fun with titles.

Chris Stanley (christinelstanley) | 922 comments Yep, I like that, who wants to give it a go? Maybe we could make it a quarterly challenge starting in April.

Thanks for the idea Kat

I need to have a think about it, but I'm sure I could make it work for me

Kat (bookworm2017) No Problem :)
