Aqua Rain Okay.....I was a fan of Maximum Ride but now it has gone wayyy downhill since the start. I liked the first three books but then they brought in all the Government crap ya know? Tell me what you guys think

Jessica I kind of agree I think he could have stopped with the first three books, but I still like the series.

message 3: by [deleted user] (new)

I have always thought this. Since start I've been thinking each book got a little more disappointing. But as said above I still love these books

Megan I agree, I still love the books though

Samara Book 1 and 2 made its way up! Book 3 went downhill throwing 4 and 5 downhill tooooo! luckily 6 and 7 made its way back up again!

Kaila Herd This is a common opinion, and one that I share. The first three books were so action-packed that the fourth felt like such a letdown. Then, when "Max" and "Fang" came out, the same feeling occurred, and I hoped that JP would get out of the weird romantic feelings funk he'd written himself into, and bring back the action of the first three.
"Max" was all right, being a slight improvement from the random global warming escapade in "The Final Warning," but it just wasn't that great. "Fang," honestly, didn't have a point. I've read it twice and still couldn't tell you the significance of it, other than "Fang leaves" (and really, JP, you don't need a whole book to write in one plot twist... you've done it in half a page before!).
I've heard that "Angel" is more like "Saving the World and Other Extreme Sports" than the past three books, so I'm anxious to read it, but at the same time, I know it will be a slight letdown yet again.
Honestly, JP has dragged his beloved characters through the mud and back, and I think it's finally time to return the books to their former glory for the last hoorah.

I agree, "The Final Warning" fucked it up, excuse my language.

message 8: by Kat (new) - rated it 3 stars

Kat Mellon Agreed. Loved the first three books. Threw the fourth against the wall. I don't appreciate indoctrination. Stomached the fifth, and haven't -- and won't -- read Fang, Angel, or Nevermore.

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

^ the series goes almost goes back to its old ways in fang, went down a little in angel (but the ending was so intense and actiony-even better than the first three) and you have to read nevermore!

Cookie The story Maximum Ride had a pointless plot. It had no solid hold or plan. Through out the book, they didn't really have a single mission they needed to complete. Even the romance was pointless because of the fact that after 5 books of making Fang and Max getting closer and closer, he ended it and replaced Max with Max. Ridiculous. In the fourth book, they all became government sell out. The maximum ride series was exciting and appealing because it was a bunch of adolescent kids running from the government.

Chris Sandeman I agree I was so dissapointed with the way the books went they started becoming boring and predictable

Yoanna I loved and enjoyed the first three books. They were action packed, fast paced, witty, and Max was awesome! Once the fugitives (aka book four) came in, it got screwed up! "The Final Warning" was propaganda!! Then they added Dylan and max became weak. Plus there were so many new plots holes that we start to think "How in the world is James Patterson going to wrap them all up AND let them make sense in Nevermore?!"

Disappointing and sad. I can't wait for the series to be over...

Nicole I loved ALL the books! I don't understand why people keep saying the books have gone downhill? I have loved every single Maximum Ride book. They are all 5 stars on my list. My favorite series next to the Hunger Games. So why do people keep saying it's gone downhill? I don't get it.

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

Well the final books have more romance than action and the action is the whole reason Maximum Ride had fans. And Max's life is freaking two steps forward one step back. I mean in StWaOES it said Jeb was the voice and I was like all pumped for a twist. Then JP is like "Yeah I'm just messing with ya, he's not the voice" and it was seriously disappointing. And other factors that made it a little worse

message 15: by Abby (new) - rated it 5 stars

Abby i liked them. not a huge fan of what happened in the end of fang though. or angle

Rachel Alice I was so excited when I found out there was going to be a fourth book, but now I wish it had just stayed a trilogy. There was a brief upswing in #5, but the more I think about it, the more crap the new ones are. I'm still invested enough to read the last one, but I half expect to be gritting my teeth the whole way through.

message 17: by Kayla (last edited Feb 20, 2012 04:36PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kayla I agree. There were some books that were totally pointless to the series. The books in about the middle of the series didn't have anything to do with the general storyline, really. There was a bad guy at the beginning who was killed by some kind of tornado at the end. And who wasn't even really human? I don't know, I just didn't really get it. But I really liked the book Fang.

message 18: by Abby (new) - rated it 5 stars

Abby i thought fang was sad. well really only the ending.but it was one of my favorite.

message 19: by Lilac (last edited Feb 21, 2012 10:05AM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lilac Yeah, I sort of agree. Like everyone else I thought the first three books were truly amazing, but it did go down hill from there. The fourth and fifth books were a complete letdown, exept for the brewing romance between Max and Fang, which was a good idea but JP went at it wrong. Some teens who started reading the books years ago might want some romance because they're older now but that doesn't mean JP should have cut out all the cool plot twists and actions scenes. It wound have been better to include a bit of everything.

I'm glad that the sixth and seventh books were better than the previous two though otherwise I might have stopped reading one of my favourite series' out of frustration. I can't wait for the last book now and I hope it will be as good as the first few. :D

Sunny C-s I love the books, but they did go a bit downhill...There was never plan except 'Max will save the world'. And After the 3rd, there were all sorts of different ideas on how exactly is that supposed to happen. But I still LOVE their sense of humor. Always funny.
I basically read it to see how it's going to end, the humor, and to answer all my questions.... like WHO'S THE VOICE??? It's been driving me nuts.

message 21: by Ella (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ella I completely agree. The first three were great, and then Max got all girly and stuff and the love "triangle" sort of took over the books. There used to be more action than emotion, but now it's the complete opposite. I don't really like it, so James Patterson better do a ridiculously good job with the last one!

Hannah I don't think it went downhill...it's just that there is a lot of drama and I kinda like that. I can't wait to see what James Patterson does in the last book to tie it all together.

Rachel Alice Ella wrote: "I completely agree. The first three were great, and then Max got all girly and stuff and the love "triangle" sort of took over the books. There used to be more action than emotion, but now it's the..."

I completely agree, that's exactly it! The extra six months to publication seem to indicate that someone is taking their time making the last one right, or at least that's what I'm hoping.

Blujeanbooks96 I agree that it made a hell of a change after the third book when they brought in all the government stuff, and yeah it probably went downhill, but I still like it. A lot.

message 25: by [deleted user] (new)

I kinda liked the first couple of books... but then they added a whole bunch of other stuff and it didn't make sense. The author definetly needs to tie in all the loose ends. Im really confused....

Gerriane I liked the first three books because I actually felt like it was heading somewhere. Now I feel like JP just combined a bunch of story ideas and didn't really think about how they connected to each other :|

Blujeanbooks96 but maybe bringing in the politic side of it was important or there was a reason for it. I mean, politics (while they are one helluva head ache) are important too and it seems silly, if you really think about it, the there wouldn't be politics involved in everything Max and flock have been doing or have done. It just adds like an extra element to the books and I reckon it'll all come to a head in the last book.

Allison I think that the author should have stopped at the third book..... To me it seems like for the first three books he was like "oh hey, I have this great story that I think could be really good! Imma right a trilogy on it!" then after the third one "oh hey, these books were a hit! Let's think of more story lines!" which basically means...... It wasn't as good..... That's just my thoughts....

Yup, when i read the Angel, it was completely empty to me.
i have no feeling for it but, Anger and Boredom.

Jimmy The breaking point was The Final Warning. I personally had no problem with the first three books. Heres what I think of Each book:
The Angel Experiment: amazing start
School's Out-Forever: EPIC,great second book
Saving the World and Other Extreme Sports: best book of the series
The Final Warning: going downhill/sucked
Max: ok, reasonable book
Fang: WORST FREAKING BOOK
Angel: Awaiting to be read
Nevermore: Awaiting to be read

Wow...it's almost like you read my mind there..... Because that's exactly how I felt too! Although I never got to Fang.....couldn't stand the disappointment

Grace Yeah, I think the series went downhill. The first three books were good, but James Patterson didn't know how to execute global warming as the enemy. Plus in "The Fugitives" series everything was connected, however in "The Protectors" series it just seems like a bunch of different enemies that have one goal, but don't work together, and are only connected by their goal.

Jimmy I just started Angel, it's pretty good so far. It definetly makes up for FANG which sucked but it's not the same. I guess I'll never feel the same way about the series. To many things were messed up for me to be a die-hard fan.

Jimmy Allison wrote: "Jimmy wrote: "The breaking point was The Final Warning. I personally had no problem with the first three books. Heres what I think of Each book:

I read FANG just for the sake of reading it. My problem is that once I start a series, it's essential that I finish it. I don't know why I'm like that. Read FANG just so you could laugh at how bad it was. If you feel the same way I feel about the series you'll be frustrated for sure. Although I started ANGEL last night and to be quite honest, it's actually pretty good but still not back how it used to be.

message 36: by [deleted user] (new)

The first three in my opinion were rather good. It got old after awhile after the third book though. I got tired of the fact that at the beginning of a new book they'd start out with finding they had another mission, nearly die but don't, and run to a safe haven. I am still a fan of the series, but not as big of one when I started reading them.

Juliet *SPOILER ALERT*
I liked the first few books but only really for the characters. I loved Fang and Max together, actually. However, the series really didn't have much of a plot. The entire series, Max is told she needs to save the world from this giant mystery thing, and then you find out the first couple of books had been leading to global warming. Global warming. REALLY? The last few haven't even had great villains. I just think this whole series has gone downhill from the very beginning. I haven't even read the last two because I know what happens with Max and Fang and that just pisses me off. I'll read the last three in a row when the final book comes out, and only to make sure Max and Fang end up together. If they don't.....

Betty yea defiantly a downhill series

Simplyminali yea and also james patterson failed at romance. i mean seriously? Fang leaving the plot?

Webiny Cookie wrote: "The story Maximum Ride had a pointless plot. It had no solid hold or plan. Through out the book, they didn't really have a single mission they needed to complete. Even the romance was pointless bec..."

You are ABSOLUTELY RIGHT. But we love it anyway! :)

Simplyminali i think james patterson should work on improving his writing techniques

message 42: by Jade (new) - rated it 3 stars

Jade the first three were good. the thing is that James Patterson doesn't know what to put in his books. Fans wanted more, so he rushed it without thinking of what was a good idea. so 4 through the rest aren't good. I'm going to read the last book and never read any of his books again.

Kaylynn Eiler NO!!!!! Keep 'em coming!!!!

Allison Jade wrote: "the first three were good. the thing is that James Patterson doesn't know what to put in his books. Fans wanted more, so he rushed it without thinking of what was a good idea. so 4 through the rest..."

"Like" :D haha

Samantha I'm with everyone. First few were ah-mazing. 4th one turned me off quite a bit. I thought Max was good, Fang wasn't and Angel just...it was pretty bad. I guess I'm probably gonna read the last one, just to see what happens. But I don't think I'll like it.

message 46: by Kyle (new) - rated it 4 stars

Kyle I think pretty good until when Dylan came in and the whole thing about Fang leaved brought it downhill 'cause i liked it before that.

message 47: by Kat (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kat The 1st and the 4th book were in my opinion the worst. The 5th was okay but kinda pointless. I'm reading the 6th book right now.

Vivian I really enjoyed the first book, but after that...all the excitement just seemed to curb. Plus, Max started to really get on my nerves with each new book in the series. And Angel was...just getting stranger and stranger. The main reason I'm reading the last book is just to finish the series to be quite honest.

message 49: by Emily (new) - added it

Emily I think it all went downhill with all the save the trees and polar bears crap. And all the nonsense about global warming. Why bring that into a perfectly good series? But then they started to get better by actually trying to help people in Africa. Still awaiting the last book though, so can't be sure how it's goning to be.

Lauren Stoolfire Aqua wrote: "Okay.....I was a fan of Maximum Ride but now it has gone wayyy downhill since the start. I liked the first three books but then they brought in all the Government crap ya know? Tell me what you guy..."

Exactly. I haven't read Angel or Nevermore yet, but as far as I'm concerned he Patterson should've finished the series after the first three.
