That's a great idea. Water Street Bookstore in Exeter, NH is also a great indie and is another NH Seacoast location.

...better get started!

I've been putting off the Outlander series because of the size, but I gave in and started book 1. Can I just say LOVE IT!!! This series is my doorstop challenge for this year. Each book is longer than the last. If you haven't read these, try these for your LONG books!

I think reading 12 books I already own would be good, since I tend to read a lot of library books and the books on my shelf just languish. In fact, I've come to believe that if I do buy a book, that signs the death knell for that book in terms of reading it.
I don't want the death knell for any of my books!

Oh my goodness - so do I! I have done this *so* many times, and then the books just "languish," as Linda so aptly put it. I don't think there's any cure for this malady, either.

..."
I have the same experience - lol!

Yeah, me too especially if it's a bit off the main track. Books sometimes have short shelf lives....besides sometimes I can't stand to walk away and leave it there on the shelf.

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas
Inheritance
Treasure Island
The Virgin Suicides
All the Pretty Horses
No Country for Old Men
The Wolf Gift
Rot & Ruin
The Help
The Talented Mr. Ripley
Ghoul
A Wrinkle in Time
Holes
2 alternates: (just in case something reeks!!):
Homicide In Hardcover
Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children

I think so too; i have 3 challenges going on with this one included. I really love to read and dont want to end up with stinkers..hehehhehe... :)

I have read a number of the Mallory books by O'Connell out of order, and I think you can go ahead an read this book out of order. It may entice you to read previous Mallory books, so enjoy.

Oooh, also going to borrow this one too, as I'm moving in June from Seattle to Washington DC and will have access to a whole new collection of bookstores in that part of the country. Good idea, Callie...

I'm so jealous! I moved from the WDC to Oregon five years ago and I'm still very homesick for the East Coast! When I left, there was Politics and Prose, Kramer Books and Afterwords, Olsson's and big B&N and Borders stores as well. I believe Olsson's has closed and, of course, Borders; but I've heard Just One More Page is fabulous :-)

Oh, great, Tanya - thanks for the suggestions! I'm making a note right now. (Of course, I also figure a road trip or two further north will net me some great shops. Can't have too many!)
Are you in Portland? I'd give up an arm to have easy access to Powell's...
(Edit: Just saw your profile - well, Medford isn't THAT far away... :) )

Powell's...the happiest place on earth! It's a 3 hour train or car trip for me, but we do it a couple of times a year. There are many excuses to be in Portland, but none better than Powell's.

But then all my library queue books came in at the same time. They have due dates! This is hard! There's Autobiography of a Face by Lucy Greeley looking over my shoulder every DAY! Got to get back on track with this...

I read and loved this book shortly after it came out. I don't think there is a need to read it a second time - it will remain with me forever.

Ashley,
A little light reading?

My 12 will be "12 Books I read because they were recommended by Books On The Nightstand".

That said, I'm considerably behind what I can do! Two years ago I did a 52 in 52 weeks and actually read 104 that year. :)

i just read my plan and had to hold my head down in shame... 300 on my tbr and i promised not to add more... uhm, i am over 500 now and dont feel the shame i thought i would. i think i need to read everything!!
finished another book off the list; Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children; and gave it 4 stars

On to the next one... alas. :/

I doubt very seriously if I can finish Inheritance this year considering the 3rd book was not so pleasurable...mmm
EDIT: ...thought i had read more than i did, but that is not the case. Inheritance will not be read this year; but will try with The Help and The Talented Mr. Ripley.. :)

reading a wrinkle in time right now; that will give me my 12!! it is good so far.. :)

. I didn't know it was out as a graphic novel.
Yesterday, I saw it listed as a new acquisition at my not-so-local library. I put in a request for it. Today I got the e-mail that it's waiting for me.

I didn't know that either, interesting. i have seen more and more books go comic. some are actually very good and give you a nice visual. :)

Accidently, I discovered
, too. I really enjoyed that one, too. I had already read the original book.
Whatever gets somebody reading is o.k. by me.
