Lyn I just finished Odd Jobs - it was a 99¢ download to my Nook and it's been excellent. I rarely finish a 600 page book in 2 nights, but I couldn't put this one down. It's more along the lines of a Patterson piece, with an excellent twist at the end.

Odd Jobs by Ben Lieberman

Erin (erinreve) | 7 comments I read Those Who Save Us by Jenna Blum and while I found it somewhat disturbing (as all WWII books are on some level)I loved it and gave it 5 stars.

I'm currently reading The Host (The Host, #1) by Stephenie Meyer in addition to Homicide In Hardcover (A Bibliophile Mystery, #1) by Kate Carlisle

Elaine Orr (httpwwwgoodreadscomelaine_orr) | 8 comments I read "Hotel at the Corner of Bitter and Sweet" last year and, despite the painful subject matter, loved it. I just came across "Eyes Behind Belligerence," which is also about Japanese internment camp families, and liked it as well. Sounds like I spend all my time in WWII books. I don't, just liked these. Eyes Behind also has a touch of humor and some great irony near the end.

Have you read The Buddha in the Attic by Julie Otsuka and When the Emperor Was Divine by Julie Otsuka by Julie Otsuka? It amazes me how this author can use so few words to create a complete story.

Kristin Nitz (kristinwoldennitz) | 38 comments I just wrapped up REBELS AND TRAITORS by Lindsey Davis. It's historical fiction set at the time of Charles I with roundheads and cavaliers. (I'm afraid that there's plenty of violence and sexual content, s I can't give it an unqualified recommendation in this forum.) I'm a fan of this author's Didius Falco series, which are set during the time of Vespacian in Ancient Rome. I would not call them cozy, but people who appreciate Sharyn McCrumb's novels could probably handle the harder edge.

message 56: by Amy (new)

Amy I'm reading Quiet The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking by Susan Cain which I'm really enjoying! Very informative & reassuring to an introvert like me!

Also started Homicide In Hardcover (A Bibliophile Mystery, #1) by Kate Carlisle but then got distracted by the Quiet book. But, I'm enjoying it so I'll get back to it soon!

Thanks Michelle. Glad to hear it's worth it.

message 61: by Debbie (new)

Debbie I'm doing research on Prohibition so I'm reading The Purple Gang Organized Crime in Detroit 1910-1945 by Paul Kavieff and Last Call The Rise and Fall of Prohibition by Daniel Okrent .

Plus I'm reading Moral Disorder and Other Stories by Margaret Atwood , a collections of short stories by one of my favorite authors (non-cozy, that is).

Oh, and Sing Them Home A Novel by Stephanie Kallos by Stephanie Kallos. I loved her first book, and this one seems as quirky and well-written.

message 62: by Caron (new)

Caron | 9 comments I just finished both Quiet by Susan Cain and The Gift of Fear by Gavin de Becker. Both of them astonishing books that give the reader potentially life-changing information.

message 65: by Tara (last edited May 17, 2012 11:04PM) (new)

Tara I just finished The Violets of March by Sarah Jio and really liked it.
I had to get to Insurgent (Divergent, #2) by Veronica Roth since I have been waiting to read it for months. I am almost 3/4ths through it and I have not been disappointed.
I am also still reading... Me & Emma by Elizabeth Flock , but I am having a hard time getting into it so it keeps getting pushed aside.

In the car, I am listening to Fire (Graceling Realm, #2) by Kristin Cashore .

I have a face to face book club meeting on the 5th and I have to get to Fifty Shades of Grey, but I keep loaning it out since I am in the middle of these books. Since I won't get it back until Tuesday... I am hoping I will get at least one cozy in this month!

I have tried to read GWTW four or five times and I never get past page 15. Just too slow and boring for me. I'm glad someone, other than my little sister, loves the book.

Michelle | 62 comments I just finished the 2nd book in the Sookie Stackhouse series, Living Dead in Dallas (Sookie Stackhouse, #2) by Charlaine Harris . I gave it 4 stars just because these are fun reads! I am moving onto the 3rd book, Club Dead (Sookie Stackhouse, #3) by Charlaine Harris .

I started the Passage and simply gave up when I found that it is more than likely part of a series - the character's just didn't grab my interest to follow their story. I didn't feel that it was headed to a good place.

message 74: by Joyce (new)

Joyce Harmon | 8 comments I've read Gone With The Wind a number of times, it's a real page turner. But the last time I read it, I noticed the racism that I'd somehow never noticed before. Of course, the characters themselves are racists, it's the 19th Century. But I found some implicit racism that had to come from Mitchell. Has anyone else noticed that the only slaves in the book who wanted to be free were the stupid, lazy, vicious ones? The smart, hardworking, kind blacks apparently had no problem with being slaves. ExCUSE me?

I loved them! I really didn't want too ..I am not a bandwagon reader so i tend not yo read anything popular ..but I'm glad I changed my mind for these:) while they are very steamy they aren't as bad as I had envisioned..I will warn you however get all 3 at once because the first 2 will leave you hanging desperately at the end!

Karen (xkamx) | 580 comments I'm reading two books by Lawrence Block along with my cozies. I keep an "emergency" book in my car for when I get somewhere I'll have time but stupidly left my current book(s) at home. Right now, that book is A Diet of Treacle by Lawrence Block. I'm about half-way through.

I also have Block's Burglars Can't Be Choosers out. This is a reread of one of my favorite series (first book in the series), which, I guess, could be considered cozy because the protagonist, Bernie Rhodenbarr, is a burglar. He "breaks in" (I know, boooo!!) on murders while "working." The series is currently 10 books and a few short stories. The stories are well crafted, clever, fun, and humorous--sometimes laugh-out-loud so. I highly recommend the Burglar series. It's one I can read over and over (and keep in my personal library so I can do just that).

Coming in to edit... Just saw a blog post by Lawrence Block. Through June 11, 2012, Burglars Can't Be Choosers is $0.99 at Barnes & Noble, Apple, etc.

The rest of his series (all the Tanners--more adventure than mystery, all the Scudders--definitly not cozy (dark!), but great mysteries/books, all the Kellers--not mysteries (a bit dark, but clever and funny, too), a hitman who dispenses his brand of justice, and all the Burglars--as described above) are priced at $3.99. June 11 they go to regular price.

I have been reading Lawrence Block since the early 80's when I picked A Stab in the Dark (cool black cover with an ice-pick front and center!). I then started picking up his older/other books. He and Donald Westlake (and their various aliases) are two authors I can read over and over. Although I have most of their stuff in hard copy, I will "collect" their books for e-reader/apps as ones I would carry with me to read anywhere, anytime.

If you like cozies (why you're here!) and want a taste of Block, 99 cents for the e-version of Burglars Can't Be Choosers is a great buy. In subsequent books, Bernie gets a bookstore to run as a legitimate business. The first Scudder book, The Sins of the Fathers is still on sale at 99 cents for Kindle, if you want to get a taste of that series.

Tammy (tammy60) I'm reading Death In Holy Orders (Adam Dalgliesh, #11) by P.D. James and listening to Angels in the Gloom A Novel (World War One Series, #3) by Anne Perry for a mystery challenge I'm in. I also have Ambush At Osirak by Herbert Crowder that I'm reading like 10 pages at a time for the challenge...it's not my cup of tea but if fits the challenge. :)

Michelle - I've been wanting to read Skipping a Beat. I nominated it for another group, but it didn't win. Let me know what you think of it.
