It's that time of the month again! We'd love to get suggestions from you for the March poll.

Please note:
* Tara and I are on a budget and as such expensive books will not make the poll.
* If you want to suggest a book in a series, please link the first book (we won't start with book 3).
* If your choice isn't picked, you can always nominate it for a buddy read.

Please do not suggest any titles that have previously been group reads:

Divergent
Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children
Room
The Thirteenth Tale
Daughters of Rome
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time
Let the Right One In
The Shining
City of Bones
The Book Thief
Wolfsangel
The Lovely Bones
Shiver
The Hunger Games
Vampire Academy
Wuthering Heights
Frankenstein
Life As We Knew It
Artemis Fowl
The Secret Hour
Uglies
Delirium
Shadows

Or titles that were suggested for the February read:
Water for Elephants
In the Garden of Iden
The Language of Flowers
Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close
Ultraviolet
Chosen
Black
Showdown
The Magician's Nephew
A Wrinkle in Time
LightMasters: Number 13
Legend
The Edinburgh Dead
Wringer

Over to you! =)

Voula (otl1987) (otl1987) As my last book was Shiver and I see that it was a previous groupread, I'm now suggesting Linger! Or else, from my to-read list, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo...

message 3: by Rea, Ghost (new)

Rea | 1992 comments Mod
The 2nd book in a series won't go in to the poll in case people haven't read the first book, but I can set up a Shiver buddy read thread if you like so anyone who's read it can comment on it!

(I'm thinking we should change the buddy reads and separate them into buddy reads and 'series to talk about'. Tara, if you see this I probably won't be around until the day after tomorrow but we should talk about it then!)

Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is a good choice, though, and would finally push me to pick it up again! lol.

I thought I'd look for a nice little romance for February but I've discovered I don't have any I'd really like to share with you all (beyond Georgette Heyer and she reads a bit like Jane Austen.)

So I'm going to put forward a YA book that I was gifted recently: Shadows on the Moon by Zoë Marriott
Shadows on the Moon by Zoë Marriott.

Anyone else got any ideas? ;) 2 weeks to go then we'll set up the poll in the last week of Jan. If we don't get enough suggestions then we'll fill it up with our choices!

message 6: by Gillian (new)

Gillian | 11 comments I've read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series! I think they are excellent. A lot of people have a really hard time getting through the first, but if you get through the first few chapters of it or so then it gets much better!

I would really like to read The Dovekeepers, but I also recently read The Last Will of Moira Leahy which I really enjoyed and would recommend to other people.

message 7: by Rea, Ghost (new)

Rea | 1992 comments Mod
Thanks for the suggestions Gillian. :) The Dovekeepers is a bit expensive right now, but a cheaper version comes out in about 3 months. The Last Will fits the budget.

They both look very good!

Yep The Last Will sounds good :)

message 9: by Nikki (new)

Nikki Bezdel I'm new here so forgive me if I'm a bit off the mark with my suggestions - also not sure of the group's budget so I hope I'm hitting somewhere close to the mark.

I'd like to suggest The Night Circus - it's been on my reading list for some time now and seems to cast a potent spell over those readers whose reviews I've read. Also, Shadow Tag by Louise Erdrich - something a bit different for me, but it keeps calling out to me!

Thanks for considering my choices.
:o)

message 10: by Cynjit (new)

Cynjit | 33 comments I second The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern .

Rea | 1992 comments Mod
The general rule of thumb for price is no more than 10€ (13 US dollars) on The Book Depository. The Night Circus is slightly more than that, but you're in luck because I already have the book! ;)

Tara and I are looking into how we can change the group reads slightly to accomodate indie authors. More info on that as we figure it out ourselves!

message 12: by Nikki (new)

Nikki Bezdel Many thanks Rea for clarifying the budget for the group read books - I'll be sure to keep that in mind for future suggestions.

Really pleased to hear that The Night Circus has made it onto the voting list for March - if only by virtue of serendipity! I look forward to casting my vote at the end of the month.

Jane (janeloveslife) | 4 comments How about a classic like Jane Eyre or Oliver Twist? Both are free on KINDLE UK/USA.

I will make sure to check the price on that website before I make another suggestion, thank you for posting it! The Dovekeepers is relatively new so I should have known it would be a bit costly, didn't even think of that!

message 15: by Melissia (new)

Melissia Bruehl (melissiabruehl) I would like to recommend Forgotten by Cat Patrick.

I'm new to recommending too...but checked it on the The Book Depository :)

message 16: by Rea, Ghost (new)

Rea | 1992 comments Mod
We did have some classics in the polls last year but then people would vote for them and not read them. I'm willing to give it another shot but if it goes the same way again then I'm afraid they'll be relegated to buddy reads.

Melissa, Forgotten seems to be all over the place right now! :) Thanks for taking the time to check the price for us!

message 17: by Voula (new)

Voula (otl1987) (otl1987) Hey, if it's a classic, I would like to read a Jane Austen, besides Pride and Prejudice and Emma, that I'm reading now, or something by Dickens, maybe Hard Times. Other that that, I would love to read The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and Other Tales of Terror.

And my vote for The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo still stands! As for Linger, that will have to wait for me, since I've decided not to buy a new book for a while...

message 18: by Rea, Ghost (new)

Rea | 1992 comments Mod
I was going to suggest we do another Jane Austen in a couple of months after we've had time to recover from Emma. ;)

The problem with classics is that I don't think Tara has any interest in them so I would be the one reading, which I'm happy to do, but I need to recover after each one! lol.
(Correct me if I'm wrong, Tara.)

(I HAVENT even tried.. :P ))

message 20: by Voula (new)

Voula (otl1987) (otl1987) I'm into classics now, but not in a row! I need a break from them too! But March is a good time for a classic and a classic is good for me, because they are easier to find for free (either Gutenberg or friends who will lend them to me), since I can't buy another book for a while (this challenge bothers me!!!).

After seeing all the positive posts and reading the synopsis, I agree this would make a great group read.

Haha, you got there ahead of me. I was going to suggest it for a mystery month, should we decide to have one!

Erin-Yvonne (erinpredmore) Dark Places by Gillian Fylnn

message 27: by Rea, Ghost (new)

Rea | 1992 comments Mod
I'm afraid I'm a bit reluctant to include a book that speaks to one faith. I'm personally not Christian, and I know I'm not the only one in the group who isn't, and it seems that this is a self help book aimed at Christians.

Erin, Dark Places sounds very interesting! Thanks!

message 28: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (rebeccasg) Id like to suggest Bel Canto by Ann Patchett. I really loved this book and would love to read it again.

message 29: by Sue (new)

Sue (jimsueh) | 7 comments I would definately second that suggestion Rebecca! Bel Canto is a great book and a favorite of mine.

We stopped taking suggestions for March a week ago. I'm sorry, we should have locked this thread. The suggestions for April will be open in a couple of days, though. I'll add all three of these books to that topic.

Thanks for taking a moment to come suggest a book for us!

Thank you everyone who put forward a book for March. This topic is now locked. We will be taking suggestions for the April reads in a couple of days.
