Casey Biernacki I am looking for other books that fall in the same realm as the Hunger Game series. I read Battle Royal a few years ago and loved it as well. Any other suggestions?

kvon | 563 comments Which parts of Hunger Games did you find most appealing?
If it's Girls Who Kick Butt, then I would recommend Graceling or First Test.
If you like the Fallen Apart Civilization, consider The Road or Dreamsnake.
If you like People Hunting Each Other Down For TV, try to find The Tenth Victim.
There's also Uglies if you want more recent young adult Remakes Civilization.

Levi Tinney (levis) | 41 comments A great YA dystopian novel out this year was Delirium, which I recently read after it was mentioned in Lev Grossman's best SF/F of 2011 list for NPR.

Joe (silverpineapple) | 5 comments I agree with mmmbye. Go with Divergent, though keep in mind only the 1st of the 3 books is out. If you are not one who likes waiting for sequels, you may want to wait.

Michael (michaeljsullivan) | 113 comments I would suggest Ender's Game.

Been | 125 comments I've not read it myself, but there's a book called Zombies and Shit which sounds like it would fit the bill. Just be warned that if the titles of the author's other books are any indication then it's likely to be pretty NSFW.

Phil On The Hill (philonthehillexon) | 263 comments Richard Bachman (Stephen King) - The running Man The Running Man

Marisa Gettas | 8 comments I'm thinking Matched, Delirium or
Divergent

message 10: by Jo (new)

Jo | 11 comments I loved Delirium. I would also recommend Enclave by Ann Aguirre and The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater.

Jo | 11 comments Also - Blood Red Road by Moira Young and The Declaration by Gemma Malley.

Joseph | 2433 comments Going a little further afield, you might try the Tripods books (The White Mountains, etc.) by John Christopher. (I've only read the original trilogy and that was, um, several decades ago . . .)

message 13: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Terrington (thewritestuff) If you want civilizations broken down you might want to try: Obernewtyn or Mortal Engines. If you want YA science fiction I further commend Ender's Game. I also second The White Mountains.

I really liked The Road, but I would caution that it's not a YA book, if that's what you're looking for specifically. There are some intense scenes.

while The Road was a fantastic book I would not say it was anything at all like The Hunger Games. Nothing similar there at all.

The Maze Runner and Divergent yes. Ender's Game yes. Witch and Wizard? That's quite different. And I Am Number Four? Perhaps...

I'd throw in The Knife of Never Letting Go as a suggestion.

message 18: by Tamahome (new)

Tamahome | 7222 comments By the way, Battle Royale is coming to DVD in America. So you can throw away those VCD's.

Hmm that's interesting.. either every Barnes and Noble has the same display, or you live somewhere close to me. I was just in my local B&N and they had the exact same display :)

I'm standing right behind you.

message 22: by Reid (new)

Reid | 2 comments I'm with Tamahome's bookstore on The House of the Scorpion. It doesn't have the action of Hunger Games, but it's a teen-centric story that brings dystopia and ethical debate in spades.

message 23: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Lipinski (AndreaLipinski) I would recommend Matched, Delirium, Divergent, Uglies, XVI, Cinder, or Legend by Marie Lu (sorry - can't find a GR reference on that one).

message 24: by Darren (new)

Darren | 3 comments Delirium is a good match. Less action and more emotion in my opinion.

Sounds great. I just finished another book by Patrick Ness and loved it.
