I once again have War and Peace on my shelf but haven't started it yet. The first time I read it when I was a teenager and it left a negative impression. Not for length but because of Tolstoy's penchant for overly graphic detail made it disturbing at points. Anna Karenina is the same. Although I do love Tolstoy's style and breadth there are times his themes are a little too intense for me.
