Lauren Williams (mrslaurenwilliams) | 425 comments Well here's our first Cat's Eye thread! Yah! So far I've realized how Atwood is incredibly descriptive! I feel like I'm really there. Not too much has happened yet, but I'm wondering about Cordelia and why she is so important here.

kate (katelucia) Yeah! I can't wait until that part unfolds. It's obvious throughout the book that she's supposed to mean something. So I can't wait to find out what.

I love the way she writes. Look for my new fave passage on the bottom of pg. 59. I laughed so hard.

I need to re-read The Handmaid's Tale.

What is great about this book, is the chapters each show a part of the story, but for the biggest part of the book, you aren't quite sure how any of it connects.

Spencer (spencerafreeman) I agree with the rest of you in terms of not much going on... to be honest the first chapters have been... eh. I want to like it, i really do, but so far...
no, no, I won't judge it yet. I'll just have to keep on reading.

I am curious to know how Cordelia relates to the story.
I was a little confused on why exactly her family traveled so much, and why they decided to settle down in the broken down house.

Any thoughts?

message 5: by Kristy (new)

Kristy For some reason I think it seemed like they were running and/or hiding from something when they were always traveling so far the book is ok, i like that the chapters are shorter so it seems like im getting somewhere with it but really I've only ready like 20 pages :) overall i think i need to read more before i can have a true opinion of it just have to find more time to be able to read

The beginning is a bit slow and scattered so I was confused. Keep at it, and it makes more sense. I like how she explains things about being with her family and such that makes you feel like you are there. I almost feel like I am in the back seat of the car with her or walking along side her at times.

message 7: by kate (new)

kate (katelucia) That's how I feel. Even though her narratives are smart no matter the age, I can almost immediately tell just by the first few lines of a new chapter where we are in time. It's in her voice. Even though she's an intelligent child with interesting perspective, she is still a child and that rings true for me.

Well I just started it..and I absolutely love the way she writes. It's my first time reading anything by her. Not much has happened so far but I'm enjoying her descriptions. I want to know who Cordelia is!
