I haven't quite finished last year's books, but this one is nice and short, so I'm hoping when I do pick it up, I'll be able to read it quickly.

CluckingBell | 2 comments I had just joined the CanLit group and saw this book was 1) short and 2) available on Project Gutenberg, so I quickly downloaded and read it. I knew nothing at all about the author, but upon reading the book Grove seemed like a decent guy with an innate curiosity about his world (hence the lengthy descriptions of fog and snow). He also seemed just odd enough for me to deem him a harmless eccentric, maybe with a few hints of egomania. I was left wanting to know more about his personal life because I had a feeling that would be much more interesting than his descriptions of snow.

Then I read his Wikipedia entry. Definitely interesting! I quickly realized that "eccentric" may have been a supreme understatement, but perhaps he was just way ahead of his time. I'd be curious to read some of his fiction (although I have a feeling the line between fiction and nonfiction may have been thin and indistinct for him) and/or a biography of Grove.
