Mary (marybt) | 336 comments I love the semi-colon. Love it. I think it stems from my love of run on and/or fragmented sentences. lol. I even used one in a facebook status update once. (Okay, that was kind of nerdy, but what are you going to do? haha.)

Elizabeth (Alaska) No doubt about it! Mine is the exclamation point!

message 3: by Mandy (new)

Mandy Petrocelli I'm going to have to go with the semicolon; although the exclamation point is a close second. I, too, am a big fan of run-on sentences, so the semicolon is oft-used with me.

Dee-Ann | 3215 comments Mine, and I use it too much, and probably inappropriately, is the ellipsis ...

message 5: by Cassie (new)

Cassie | 487 comments I am a heavy user of the ellipsis also... and the exclamation point. I'd say it's a tie!

Elizabeth (Alaska) Ooops .... I forgot about the ellipsis ... yep, a close second.

Nancy (Colorado) Lots of exclamation points!!!!!

message 8: by Sandra (new)

Sandra (sandee) | 328 comments I love the ellipsis!!!

message 9: by Lianne (new)

Lianne (eclecticreading) | 365 comments Semi-colons definitely are my favourite punctuation, I seem to use them a lot! I tried cutting back a bit when I was writing academic papers because I thought I might be using them wrong but they're just so handy when you have a lot of thoughts that you want to cram into a sentence =P

Patricia Herr (patriciaellisherr) | 8 comments I adore semicolons; they come in handy. Often, I have a lot to say; there are times when it's dificult to break up one grand idea into smaller, more manageable bits. I object to the notion that semicolons are overused; I only include them when I feel I've no other choice.

message 11: by Dcf260 (new)

Dcf260 I have to go with the question mark. It holds so many possibilities.

message 12: by Julie (new)

Julie (julmille) | 391 comments ... for sure the ellipsis...constantly using it, drives my 15 year old daughter crazy...so I do it even more just to torture her, especially when texting

message 13: by Viola (new)

Viola | 1014 comments I've never thought much about punctuation and I've never asked myself, "What is my favorite?" I like them all equally! If I had to pick though, I'd pick quotation marks: "". They have become more popular lately with the emergence of "air quotes". They are so multi-purpose; they can indicate double entendres, provide emphasis, and of course, to quote.

message 14: by Ann (new)

Ann | 28 comments I love the period. I use it. A lot. It highlights my favorite type of sentences. Fragments. (And I think it captures internal thought really well when used this way.)

Valen (vlnvldz) | 259 comments Hands down to exclamation points!!! :D

message 16: by Megan (new)

Megan M | 267 comments I am a huge fan of the Smiley Face, also known as the emoticons. (:-?) It is the newest form of punctuation. (:-0) They even change according to your mood. :-( or :-/ or :-#)

AND

I really love all punctuation, but the colon really does assit me on making my many lists: to do, not to do, wish I could do, shopping, etc.

Fun topic!

message 17: by Janine (new)

Janine (exoticapple16) Two thumbs up for the "PERIOD." I use it so much. And I love using it. It makes me want to think of a new sentence. And It also helps me to stop talking so much. Haha!! Exclamation is the second because it expresses what I'm feeling especially when I'm angry or exaggerating. :))

message 18: by Candice (new)

Candice (littleplasticcastle) I love commas, truthfully. ;) I wish I understood the concept of the semicolon, but I can't seem to grasp that!

message 19: by Mary (new)

Mary (marybt) | 336 comments You and Kurt Vonnegut. He called them, "...transvestite hermaphrodites representing absolutely nothing..."

Viola sent me the link to this article about semi-colons. (It's not as dry as it sounds; in fact, it's pretty good.)

I like the comma, too. It adds such style to your writing!

The article is actually very cute. I like the comparison of the semicolon to a cherry pitter: "theoretically functional, but fussy and unloved and probably destined for the yard-sale table."

oh, it takes so little to amuse me. :* )

lol thanks for sharing that link, that was an interesting read =D

message 23: by Julie (new)

Julie (julmille) | 391 comments ...ellipsis for sure...
I use it all the time, especially when texting. It drives my husband and daughter crazy! Which, of course, is most of the fun...
