Katie anyone else mad that Po and Katsa isn't in this book? I am!

Cally Not really, seeing as it is set years before they were born, and in a different "segment" of the world (as I see it). Plus I like Brigan more than Po. It was never meant to be a sequel.

Hannah I was a little confused myself. I thought it was a sequel, but that didn't make sense because in Fire it told us about where Leck came from, and he was killed in the first book. ...Its a little confusing... :)

Katie HAHA, yeah I haven't read it yet, but looked through the book and saw it... so it takes place a few years earlier, huh! cool! I guessing that Bitterblue will be the squeal to Graceling though! SOOOO excited!!

Hannah Yeah :D I cant wait to read it!

MaL I read Graceling first and then Fire. And I loved both! I loved how Fire had secrets in it that had to do with Graceling. Im so excited to read Bitterblue! I think Kristin Cashore is fabu!!

Dee I was at first, but this book is so beyond good all doubt in my mind vanished. I liked how it told the back story, and how Leck became who he is. I know this might sound bad but im pretty sure (not totally positive) that I liked this book more. Either way though both books are amazing! Top favorite series.

message 8: by Voxit (new) - added it

Voxit I'm perfectly content with Fire without Po and Katsa in the story.

I do feel like there should have been more to Fire but I'm still happy with it.
Can't wait for Bitterblue!

Aeva I actually preferred this book. I like Brigan to Po because he has a deeper, more human character. I felt more committed to the characters in Fire too.
But both the books ARE amazing. I love Cashore's righting. I can't wait for Bitterblue

I'm with you there! I'm really excite for it to come out in MAY!!! WHOOOO HOOO!!

Emilie Hoffmann I also liked that "Fire" this was more of an prologue and I think I'm gonna both of the books before the last one comes out. I hope it's as good as the others!

I agree!! I liked Brigan a lot more than Po. I also liked Fire more than Graceling, too.

Izzy I was in the middle of the book Graceling when I found out that the other books wouldn't be about Katsa and Po. I was so upset, so I didn't even finish this amazing book, just because I didn't want it to end.

Thats dumb, You should finish it and then read Fire. It has all kinds of stuff pertaining to Graceling. Some many clues. Its so worth it. Your just hurtng yourself.... its def worth it.

Book_Worm99 So mad.

I was just taking a pause from the book, to keep it "alive" and not finished. I will of course finish the book, and read Fire too, and Bitterblue! Becacuse the book is really good! :)

message 17: by Amy (new) - rated it 5 stars

Amy Gideon No, I loved Fire. Liked it even better than Graceling and Graceling was Awesome. The character development in both books is wonderful and I have to say I like the worldbuilding in Fire better than Graceling. It's so different and kind of creepy.

Po and Katsa should be in Bitterblue though so no worries for those who want more of them.

Elliot Definately not upset at all...their relationship was cute but the plot in Fire was way better than all of it...

Good!! Yay!!

message 20: by VG/Allie (new) - added it

VG/Allie She should have come out with Fire first then Gracling

Brandie No they don't need to be in it because the characters in this book are really good

Scarlett Well, considering it's like a prequel to Graceling. Katsa and Po isn't really in the book. But I bet they're in Bitterblue. Because obviously, Bitterblue is Po's cousin and she was the princess that Katsa and Po saved and now is ruling her father's, which was Leck, kingdom. I bet it would be 6-7 years after the happening.

Aeva Veggy wrote: "She should have come out with Fire first then Gracling"

She marked Fire as a companion, so she didn't really have to do anything.
And besides, the point of fire, I think, was to give a little look into Leck's life before he re-entered the 7 kingdoms.
In any case, I thought they were released in a good order.

message 24: by Nae (new) - rated it 3 stars

Nae Ayson Fire is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyy better than Graceling. I felt kinda blah after reading Graceling (which might be partly affected by the fact that I read the book right after The Hunger Games and Catching Fire), but Fire redeemed the series for me.

Brigan's better too.

Savannah i love both books. i cant wait for the next one. At first i was like no Po and Katsa, unhappy. but it actually a really good book. also i had some of Graceling in the book fire too

Scarlett On the Prologue, I was confused first but when I knew that the kid was Leck-it must have been a prequel (Lol, she surprised us by not telling the book was a prequel). From then on, I knew I wasn't going to see Katsa and Po. Leck was just a child and when he was in Graceling, he was "old". So it was a real big of gap.

Now, you may ask. "What's the point of introducing to us that monsters exist in the story? Or Leck's backstory?" I personally think that the readers had to be firmly introduced with the "other" existence of a world besides the 7 kingdoms. Because I think it would have to do with Bitterblue or the following Sequels. Not soon enough they will emerge. A world who only knows about Graceling exist and a world who only knows about Monsters exist.

Samantha The Escapist I hope her elaborate world building leads to many more stories in the Dells and the 7 Kingdoms. I love her writing and I love her world. I do want Hanna to have her own story after this :)

Also guys don't get TOO excited, when Bitterblue was first announced Cashore said on her blog that Katsa and Po MIGHT be in it a little, which was clearly meant to tease but I do think she was saying they're not going to be a big part of the story, they may not even appear in the story at all, perhaps Bitterblue will consider calling on her cousin and his lady-but-not-wife Katsa for help but decide to be independent.

message 28: by Belén (last edited Feb 28, 2012 08:17AM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Belén No because it was a prequel! I wouldn't be surprised if this couple wasn't in Bitterblue either.

Ma'ila Veggy wrote: "She should have come out with Fire first then Gracling"
At first I wondered why they came out with Graceling first, then Fire, but think about it. If Fire came out first it would totally ruin the whole suprise of who is the bad guy in Graceling. The order is better the way it is.

message 30: by A (new) - rated it 4 stars

A Graceling, Fire and Bitterblue aren't a legitimate trilogy (meaning that they don't happen chronologically). They all happen in the same world, though, and they tie in to each other.
Plus, Bitterblue has Kat and Po, so you won't miss em that much.

Danielle I was not pissed at all. For a second I was confused and kind of bummed, but Fire is the best of the three books and if I could read more books from her perspective, I would be a happy girl. There was just something so vulnerable about Fire that I couldn't help but love it.

The three books do eventually tie themselves together, but they are all taking place at completely different times.

BTW: Anyone else noticing a lot of authors coming out with book 1 of a series, then doing a prequel, then going forward? Very strange.

message 32: by Krie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Krie I wasn't pissed because I thought this book was so good on its own. Also, because its a companion book. Not a sequel or a prequel.

Kathy No I wasn't pissed. This is a companion book not a sequel. Fire is a great book on it's own. If you read Bitterblue you will see how the three books finally all fit together.

Amanda I was in the beginning, cause I was like "What?! Where's one of my favorite couples of ALL times?" But... Then I happily met Fire, Brigan, and everyone else and was a very happy little reader!XD

Belén I get the general confusion with this series. The books were published in a different order than they were meant to be read. Fire would be the first book, following with Graceling and lastly Bitterblue.

message 36: by Lina (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lina Not really. I really like that the books are that different actually. But that may also be because I didn't know they were the same series. ;)

Isabella Not at all. This books was meant to show the happenings in an area that wasn't really mentioned in Graceling.

Angel Castillo People they are not a sequel, they are just in the same world, and it tells us where Leck came from not what happen to him after. U feel me? I heard that Fire comes out in Bitterblue

Lauren I love both books and I love Brigan, Fire, Katsa and Po equally. The book Fire clears up the origins of Leck from Graceling, whilst giving us an entire story to emerse our selves into. Im assuming Bitterblue is where all the characters finally meet or so I hope.

message 40: by Lumi (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lumi Malice I AGREE I DOES CLEAR THE BOOK GRACELINGS IF YOU READ FIRE HAHA AND PLUS I WORTH IT EVEN IF I DIDNT LIKE THE ENDING LOL THAT HORSE MADE HIS EYE BLIND LOL HE DERSRVIED IT O.O DID I JUST SPOIL A PART -runs away with the nexr book bitter blue

message 41: by Lumi (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lumi Malice i ment next not nexr

JessicaMaggie No beause it's a companion novel et 50 years before Graceling

Lauren It's called a prequel and it's set maybe 20-30 years before Graceling. Leck was only about 35-45 ish in Graceling and a young boy in fire so it makes sense to be 20-30 years earlier.

Kinga Well it is set before Graceling so I am not even sure Po and Katsa were born at the time Fire takes place. I came to like the story so I had no problem with that. The open ending was another thing, that, unnerved me.

Michael Marsh i am not mad but do not understand why she put this book before the first book i think it would made more sence

Aliya I was mad at first when Po and Katsa weren't in Fire but it was a book worth reading. I didn't really like Fire at first but though out the book I started to like her, and I hated Brigan at first because of what he does to Fire.

Ellie I loved Fire. It's a known to be companion novel, not a sequel, so the characters and plot from Graceling shouldn't have been expected to carry over. It is part of the Graceling series, but it's more like a distant cousin than a sibling, if that makes sense, so it should be taken for nothing more than it's own story. I loved Fire and Brigan. And Hanna. Fire seemed a bit more relatable than Katsa, but Graceling was wonderful too. So, no, not pissed. If you want more on Katsa and Po read Bitterblue. Wasn't too fond of that one, but still...

Ellie P.S. on the cover of Fire it says "Companion to Graceling" not a sequel. Companions are more "backstory/spin-offs". Not a continuation of the previous novel.

Maria Katie wrote: "anyone else mad that Po and Katsa isn't in this book? I am!"
Pretty much, ya. It was sorta depressing too.

Enyoung I loved all three books equally because all of them had their unique sense and purpose to the greater plot.

It all matched and connected, I thought it was great and it gave an insight to what else existed within their world.

The new characters were so colourful as well; I've grown pretty attached to Fire, she's absolutely lovely ♥
