Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I am determined that this year I will read all the Discworld books by Terry Pratchett. I started the first one about 6 months ago and have only reached number 4.

TO READ

Snuff (Discworld, #39) by Terry Pratchett

message 3: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Lets go :o)

Thought I'd put this up as a self challenge but anyone can have a go if they want.

message 4: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments Wow looks rather pretty !!
Ok, tagging on with number 1 when I have finished Broken City and The Book Thief .... I'm here for moral support Jud x

message 5: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments ahaha :o) woop! I've heard the first ones aren't the best to start of with but I did enjoy them. Prepare for a lot of nonsense!

message 6: by Paul (new)

Paul (latepaul) I've read the first 23 - I used to devour them as soon as they came out then gradually less obsessively then didn't bother for several years. I hope to read a few more this year, but not all of them as I have other books to read.

It would be nice to get to Night Watch by the end of the year.

message 7: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments yes I'm realising now that ever second book I read will prob have to be a pratchett in order to get this done but oh well I'll give it a go anyway

message 8: by Elle (last edited Jan 08, 2012 07:42AM) (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments Yay, good luck! I will hopefully finish the first book sometime this year as I plan to retry all books I couldn't finish in 2011!

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I have read every single one of them several times over. They are my easy fun reading for when I can't be bothered to look for something

message 10: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Sounds like us - we always have a couple by the bed for when we're too tired to concentrate on something new.

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments I'm waiting for SNuff to come out in PB. Although I don't have copies of all the others - there are a handful that I read as library books and never bought my own copies.

message 12: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments It's on Kindle and the price isn't too bad. We have the hard back and the kindle version!

message 13: by Darren (last edited Jan 10, 2012 07:30AM) (new)

Darren Humphries (darrenhf) | 6903 comments Ignite wrote: "Sounds like us - we always have a couple by the bed for when we're too tired to concentrate on something new."

We're talking about Terry Pratchett books, Ignite! :)

I read every TP book as soon as it comes out. I just can't help myself. It just has to be done. Moving Pictures is my personal favourite.

message 14: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I couldn't even read when they first one was released so I am determined to catch up now in 2012 and I shall follow TP by reading every new book as it comes out after that.

message 15: by Philip (new)

Philip Whiteland | 3394 comments Read them all, many times over. I often potter through the series, usually in reverse order. I've even read The Carpet People and the Strata and Nomes series. He's just my favourite author by a street. If I can fight the moths away, I'm planning to open my wallet and buy Snuff (was hoping it might appear as Christmas present but...sigh)

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Soul Music is my favourite, but there are another 10 or so jostling for position.

message 17: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Yeah, Darren, and we have Terry Pratchett books too!
My favourites are probably (because It's hard to narrow it down) Monstrous Regiment and Going Postal - mainly because I love the characters.
However, I love the Witches and Guards books too - same reason.

message 18: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I already have all the books. I arrived at a friends house with about 100 books and left with 1500. I didn't even know he was doing it I was too busy knocking back the wine with his wife, but lo and behold TP was there with lots of other lovely authors.

You should put the pern series on that 'books i'd like on kindle' thread then we can all click to tell the publisher we want it!

message 19: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments So far Mort is my favourite book. but when I've only read 4 that doesnt say much. Think i'll read my first TP of this year once I finish the next book I'm on! Ohhh... EXCITING!

Now you're making me feel old, Jud!!

:0))

message 21: by Sharon (new)

Sharon Goddard Soul Music & Mort are definitely among the best - fav characters though include Nanny Ogg, Granny Weatherwax & Corp. Carrot

message 22: by Joo (new)

Joo (jooo) | 1351 comments I started reading them back in about 1990 when I lived in Birmingham. I'd then buy the paperbacks when they came out. Eventually I joined the library and they'd have the hardbacks, so I'd start reading the hardbacks and try to remember to buy the paperbacks. I'd lend them to my dad and brother and hope to get them back.
A few years back I started to not enjoy them so much, so haven't bothered with the last few. I know I've read the earlier books at least 2 or 3 times.
I was doing a clear up and started giving them away, so my collection is not so good.
If anyone is missing one in their collection, let me know and I'll see if I still have it.

Of course these are all those old-fangled papery type things that need 2 hands to use :D:D:D

message 23: by Joo (new)

Joo (jooo) | 1351 comments You all know I love hedgehogs, and I think their feet are what inspired TP to create The Luggage.

message 24: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments And the hedgehog song!

message 25: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments hedgehog song?

message 27: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Oh ok, I haven't got that far yet.

message 28: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments It's rude. Could that be why I like it?

message 29: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments one more down... only 32 to go

message 30: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments woop woop Jud!

message 31: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments Yay Jud !

message 32: by Darren (new)

Darren Sant (groovydaz40) | 10 comments It will be time well spend. Enjoy immersing yourself in Terry's WONDERFUL books.

message 33: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I'm getting there, slowly...

One more down :o)

message 34: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments A very good plan for reading the series if you are interested but don't know where to start

http://discworldfanatics.co.uk/downlo...

Death is my favourite character so I'd recommend starting there

message 35: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Starting to wonder if I'll get this challenge finished this year... I need to stop reading so many other books and just read Pratchett ones for a while.

message 36: by Philip (new)

Philip Whiteland | 3394 comments Stick with it, you won't regret it. I even like Nation, and that's not anywhere near as accessible as the others. I still haven't bought Snuff yet though.

message 37: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I don't think I have snuff (can't remember) but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

Jay-me (Janet) | 3784 comments Philip wrote: "Stick with it, you won't regret it. I even like Nation, and that's not anywhere near as accessible as the others. I still haven't bought Snuff yet though."

I've not tried Nation - or any of the other non-Discworld books.
I've definitely not bought Snuff yet - I'm waiting for the paperback :)

message 39: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I'm just starting with Discworld, once I have done that maybe I will venture into TP's other novels but lets not bite off more than we can chew just now.

message 40: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I thought Nation was excellent - much food for thought! I also loved Snuff. Can't help it - I love eveything that man writes!

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I was a bit tepid about Nation. But if anyone else had written it I would probably have said all sorts of good things about it!

message 42: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I finished Witches Abroad on my lunch break :o) It was very funny. I loved it.

message 43: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments The girl in Nation (can't remember off hand - I'm a granny you know!) is a wonderful character. I loved her attitude!

Witches Abroad was the first Discworld book I read Jud. It got me addicted!

message 44: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I can see why Ignite, I was nearly laughing my pants off which, needless to say isn't very appropriate for a staff room.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Have a banananananana daquiri Jud

message 46: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments tee hee.

message 47: by Darren (new)

Darren Humphries (darrenhf) | 6903 comments I didn't Nation was all that to be honest. Wasn't overly keen on Academicals either, but Snuff is well up to ... well ... snuff.

message 48: by Philip (new)

Philip Whiteland | 3394 comments Darren wrote: "I didn't Nation was all that to be honest. Wasn't overly keen on Academicals either, but Snuff is well up to ... well ... snuff."

Oh good, I'll look forward to that then. It's another Commander Vimes novel isn't it?

message 49: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Yup it's another "Watch novel" according to this link http://discworldfanatics.co.uk/downlo...

That's a great chart. You know, it probably says something about me that I've even got "Where's My Cow?" :-)
