Brett | 478 comments So I'm only 33% into the book but its been a quick read so far. At first I was worried Kate would be a little too much like Anita Blake, but I'm liking Kate better than Anita Blake. No offense to Anita Blake fans.

Isabella Queirouz | 201 comments I was a little confused at the beginning, it took me a while to adapt and concentrate on reading especially the 1st and 2nd chapters, too many species and background. I liked when Kate met Curran and called him here kitty kitty kitty. That was a funny scene but I can't help missing some romance in this book, until now nothing!

Vi | 2794 comments The first book is a little slow and the romance takes place over 5 books actually. Plus, the romance is not that conventional. Keep going :)

Yes, Isabella. I listened to it via audiobook when I "read" it and I thought I had accidentally started it somewhere in the middle.

Christine | 955 comments I love this series. One of my absolute favorites. And I was a little confused at the beginning of book one, too. I don't think they did as good of a job explaining their world building as they do in the other books. But man, once Kate met Curran the series just took off for me. And I actually like the way the authors string you along waiting for the romance. I love the banter between Kate and Curran as the series progresses. If you like this first one, I can promise you books two and three each get better.

Brett | 478 comments I thought that part when Kate met Curran was pretty funny, too. I like their parts. I kind of like the Kodiak of Atlanta, too. I think he's interesting. I hope he has more parts.

Isabella Queirouz | 201 comments I'm toward the end, I know who's the killer already, it was a surprise. Actually I didn't think about who could it be but this upir species is too creepy, upir just think of producing a child, then he feeds the mother to the child?? that's horrible! poor mother :)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 1885 comments Yes, the killer was a surprise to me too.

Isabella Queirouz | 201 comments Ok I finished it yesterday midnight and it was excellent.
Exceptional in a one of a kind heroine, powerful, courageous, funny, mouthy and sensible deep in her heart without even showing it. Curran has a super control of himself, it seems that he's being a gentleman with Kate, well except when she helped Nick in escaping and he almost hit her. I think he was afraid of losing her. Also the vampires in this book acted as a puppet, they weren't the sexiest guys you have ever seen but they were just bodies controlled by some masters.
The writing style is what I liked the best really it was amazing the descriptions the dialogue.. I just can't wait to read the next book.

Brett | 478 comments I finished it last night around midnight, too. haha
I liked it. I gave it 4 stars. I wish there was a little more romance, but other than that I liked the story and characters. I also liked that I wasn't able to figure out who the killer was. Usually I'm pretty good at figuring that stuff out, but I had no idea with this book. I liked the different take on vampires in the book. It was kind of refreshing. haha

Isabella Queirouz | 201 comments Yeah I gave it 4 stars too and still asking my self why not 5, I'm just not sure.
Vi promised us more romance the next 5 books, so let us just wait :)
What was your favorite part Brett?
For me it was when Curran sent an official invitation to Kate as she requested in the first meeting and she came and faced all the pack and even made Derek obey her.

Brett | 478 comments I liked that part, too!
I liked it when she sent the saucer of milk to Curran whens she was on the date with Crest.
