Annika What are you reading this week? Would you read more by this author?

message 2: by Annika (new)

Annika I'm reading Lucy Sullivan Is Getting Married by Marion Keyes. So far it's good. I always like taking a break with Marion Keyes. While she deals with some serious topics, it's always in a light-hearted way. I find her books really enjoyable. so in answer to my question, yes, I'll read more by her:)

I also really love the ones about the Walsh family. Watermelon is a favorite of mine. I haven't read one by her in ages.

message 4: by Carol (new)

Carol (actutor) I was catching up on my One Story issues before I begin reading The Marriage Plot. It seems to be very well written.

Annika glad to see you are back in CL mode.

Annika Aw thanks, Carol:)

message 6: by Caroline (new)

Caroline (caro7) I'm still reading Let the Right One In and am almost finished. I love it and definitely recommend it.

message 7: by Sarenna (new)

Sarenna (djsthree) | 16 comments The Tenth Circle by Jodi Picoult. I'm about halfway through it. From reviews I've read, the last part of the book is a real let down. So far it's good.

message 8: by Heather (new)

Heather Doherty | 96 comments I am about halfway through The Known World which is the january group read for my tackling the Pulitzer's group. I am enjoying it but I needed something a bit lighter so today I started The Physician. I also decided to set Never Let Me Go aside for now. It is the monthly selection for another group, but I have had enough dystopia to hold me for quite a long time.

message 9: by JZ (new)

JZ NJ (jznj) Finished Here Comes Trouble and like Carol, started sample chapter of The Marriage Plot on Kindle, looks more readable then The Buddha in the Attic, not going to finish this one.

message 10: by Stacey (new)

Stacey I'm on my way to book club with my unread book, lol. I hope I get out of this rut soon! I have a 6hr Dr. appt tomorrow. I'll be taking The Hunger Games and The Girl She Used to Be and some cozy to try and get interested in something.

Ok...I owe you 50 cents (I had to look up "dystopia")...I did like Never Let Me Go, but it is quite dystopic (showing off my new word.)

message 12: by Gretchen (new)

Gretchen (gkonkler5) I'm working on Marley & Me: Life and Love with the World's Worst Dog. Nice read.

Finished listening to Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption and will have to get a hard copy. Amazing!!

Started listening to The New New Rules: A Funny Look at How Everybody but Me Has Their Head Up Their Ass. Another I'm gonna regret listening to. Good qoutes and hard to note when at the gym working out.

message 13: by Stacey (new)

Stacey ooo, The Night Circus! Maybe I'll bring that tomorrow, too.

I pulled off an amazing comeback tonight and finished Cutting for Stone. I need to read it again someday, it really is a great read. I read it so fast that I'm sure I missed out on a lot of details.

message 14: by Liz (new)

Liz I finished The Night Circus yesterday morning & loved it. Then I breezed through Explosive Eighteen - fun although not nearly as much as the early ones. So now I'm I've just started reading The Miracle Life of Edgar Mint. Aftern my dental appt. Tues. I'll stop at the library to pick-up my holds. It looks like a couple of other things on my TBR list are currently checked in at the same branch too so I should have several choices for what's up next.

Great news! Both books are on my list.

Sam (ecowitch) | 157 comments I'm reading The Fry Chronicles at the moment and I'm about halfway through and loving. I just love Fry's way of writing, he's one of the few people I can actually imagine talking when reading his books (fiction and non-fiction).

After that I don't know what to read next...uhmmmm decisions decisions...

JZ NJ (jznj) My first Stephen King-11/22/63 and it's huge 848 pages . Good thing it doesn't have to be finished until online book discussion Feb 1st. Geesh.

Stacey, when do you sleep? ;)
I'm glad to hear you liked this one. It's been on my shelf for a while so I need to get to it!

I set aside What is Mine for a bit and started Astrid and Veronika and The Buddha in the Attic. I don't know what's going on, but I am not choosing very good books right now.

message 19: by Theresa (new)

Theresa I'll be finishing up "The Revisionists," and I'm still enjoying it. Then I'll start on Acceptable Loss, the latest in the William Monk series.

Shelly (mercy20) Absolutely nothing at the moment. I just finished Dead of Night: A Zombie Novel and have no idea what I want to start next. Been staring at my tbr shelf in my basement with all my new books, but nothing is jumping into my arms demanding to be read.

I just looked at your TBR-I own shelf and I nominate The Night Circus and A Prayer for Owen Meany for the position of book demanding to be read. In fact I almost wish I had them in front of me. Both are great!

message 27: by Stacey (new)

Stacey I'm back! Crawled out of my rut :) 1/2 thru The Hunger Games. I'll probably finish tomorrow or tonight!

I liked Never Let Me Go too, but it wasn't one of my top ten for 2011.

Hmmmm. I just recently finished a John Irving novel so I'll have to go with The Night Circus. I find I can't read too much Irving too close together or I get annoyed with him quickly. He can be so mean to his characters.

Thanks, Heather.

Melissa (melissa419) | 123 comments I'm reading Paris Without End: The True Story of Hemingway's First Wife. The book is a bit of a struggle for me. The story is interesting, but the author's writing style leaves something to be desired.

Yes, I loved it! That's what led me to Paris without end.

Miranda (miranda_d) Annika wrote: "What are you reading this week? Would you read more by this author?"

I just finished The Butterfly Mosque: A Young American Woman's Journey to Love and Islam which I kind of enjoyed - but felt a little bit like I was on the defensive because there are a number of muslim practices that I don't agree with. But the book itseslf was eye opening and I did love the writing. Then I finished up Drive: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us which I loved. And the end of the book is kind of a motivational toolbook which was awesome!

message 37: by Heather (new)

Heather | 55 comments I finished Never Look Away: A Thriller on Wednesday and have moved on to The Emperor of All Maladies and The Keeper of Lost Causes for the weekend.

Thank you so much! I added Let the Right One In to my TBR list based on your recommendation and I finished it today. It was absolutely brilliant!
