Kimi Farley (keems) | 6 comments Hi everyone! My name is Kimi. I am an incurable copy editor. Mistakes in print jump off the page and poke me in the eye, whether I like it or not. But I like it!

I recently realized that copy editing is my passion (yes, I know how nerdy that sounds--and I don't curr!), and so I went back to college last Fall to get my degree so I can be legit and make it my career.

I have been a stay-home mom for 21 years (don't let that number make you think I'm old and boring. I'm NOT boring!), so this is a fun new chapter in my life.

Anywaysssss...what I wanted you all to know is that if you are looking for a very reasonably priced copy editor, I would love to edit your book. I have officially edited two published books, but I have been correcting mistakes for as long as I can remember. If there is a mistake, I will find it.

Is it uncool to put a link to my blog on here? If it is, please forgive me--I'm new here.

Nicki Markus (nickijmarkus) Good luck with the new career Kimi!
I'm actually doing a similar thing as I will finish diplomas in editing and publishing this year and am hoping to get work as an editor at least part-time after that.
At present I do some casual editing for an e-publisher. I don't make a huge amount of money, but it is a start and a way to get some experience.
All the best!

Christina Hoyle (christinawhite) I have a question and maybe you all can help me. I know nothing about writing a book, but I'm working my way towards doing so.

I have an amazing story, and at times I think I have some "moments" with words. For the most part though I feel like I lack thought organizations, like I'm not structuring my story properly.

I thought about just sending what I have to a ghost writer... or finding someone to co-write the book with me...

Does an editor do structural rearranging? I feel like my work would need more than just a few mistakes to be corrected. LOL.. and I don't think it's a project that should be paid in advanced..

I feel like it should be more of like a partnership... a 50 50 things when it comes to money made off the book.

Am I wrong?

My story is about my life.. and the abuse I experienced under the care of my psychotic mother.

Any advice would be well appreciated.. :)

Kimi Farley (keems) | 6 comments Wow, Christina! I read a few chapters from your blog. I was supposed to be blow drying my hair, but I couldn't stop reading and now my hair is a nasty mess-haha!

What a courageous thing you are doing to write all that down and share your life with others. It makes me wonder how many of my classmates in school were going through similar things. Of course, as an adult now I recognize those kids who get picked on as the kids who are just trying to survive at home and then have to go to school and get knocked down some more. I try to teach this to my kids, but it is hard for them to understand what it would be like. Perhaps I can tell them some of your stories.

As far as a book, I think you are on to something for sure. I don't feel like I'm qualified to do what you need. I am good at finding errors, but story structure and that kind of stuff I am still learning. I don't feel like I can be of much help to you, but I definitely think you should continue to write and move forward with your book.

Best of luck!

Kimi

Christina Hoyle (christinawhite) Thanks for your time Kimi! and thanks for all the encouragement. It's a scary thing to put out there for sure...but I think it's important to share for the exact reason you mentioned.. among some others. :)
