I finished Slave to Sensation by Nalini Singh on [2/6/2012] and am giving it 3*. I received a lot of recommendations for this one and a lot of praising on the account of Singh's writing. I must say I like the world she created, it's fascinating in it's slightly obscure way with all the lack of emotions among the Psys and the rage of changelings. But it started to bother me when Sascha was saying over and over again: "I'm Psy, remember?" I just wanted to shake her and make her realize she's nothing like them, oh well. The story was nice and the main pairing also, I just expected a lot more since I got a lot of recommendations for this book. I will continue with the series when I have more time and hopefully the sequels will impress me more. (:

I gave the first book 3 stars, too, but now it's probably my favorite PNR series. I think Nalini Singh does a great job balancing the romance with a substantial plot that carries through the series. Honest, the next several are better (in my opinion).

All her endings are on the cheesy side. But the books are soo good!!!

Thanks Ana for the recommendation. It sure lifted my spirits!

I finished

And I read the review you wrote for the Emma Holly - it was great! I read the book several years ago and don't remember anything about it. Thanks for the very funny synopsis!

I finished

Fran I'm so glad you liked the book. I first came across her books when she was writing Blaze novels and really liked her style. I don't think there's anything I've read by her that I haven't liked yet.
And THANK YOU for the book. I've been in a reading funk and just haven't read anything for weeks. this suddenly helped break me out of my funk. I loved the characters and the story. Some of the sex scenes just seemed to be thrown in and led to the occasional helping of WTFery. I've already passed it on to another person! I don't know if you should be proud that you are contributing to smutification of Columbus or not. I know I'll have to send you something, I just don't know what yet.

I finished

No need to send me anything- seriously, I have too many paperbacks that are piled up still unread. Maybe one day if I ever get my tbr pile under control :)
I'm not sure how I feel about my hand in the smutification of Columbus! My NY friends who know me as quiet and unassuming would be shocked!

I wasn't able to get a copy of James' Practice Makes Perfect, so I'm going with Clare's Extreme Exposure.
I will start it this week, and will probably stop by at the buddy thread for it to discuss.

I find her heroes to be extremely well written and charismatic. Reese is my fav of all her heroes in the I-Team books. :)

You're very welcome! I'm waiting to read Pandemonium as well!

Gave it 3*. It was ok, made me laugh some and sometimes made me sad.
English/ Irish chick-lit book, not the best of them, maybe too long and not the best written, but I like my chick-lit occasionally.
I haven't seen the movie and for some reason I can not imagine Hilary Swank as Holly .... Guess, I have to see it then.

D.G - I believe you! I loved this one.
Shell - I like Reece a lot too!

1. Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder 2/4/2012 **** I love this series. I could read these books over and over. Thanks for this pick!

I am glad you liked Poison Study its one of my favorites. Do you want to read a buddy read this month if so just let me know.

I'm glad you liked it! I think that even in real life if there is attraction mixed with antagonism you'll find some pretty amazing sparks. :-)

The book was written over 30 years ago but ther writing didn't deem dated although it was occasionally a bit drawn out it was still exciting.
The hero rescued the heroine from the French Revolution but unlike most stories after getting trapped in Paris it took over 2 years to return home.

Would you suggest it? I have it and am thinking of my next month's reading... maybe I will go for it. I also loved your idea about it on audio... how were the Scottish accents?
Also, have you read The Winter Sea yet? If you like Jamie and Claire, you may like this one. Not the same book/type of book, but Scottish + Romance and good book. I just finished it and really liked it!

I have The Trouble With Magic so whenever you get your copy and want to start the buddy read.. let me know.

I put The Winter Sea on my tbr after your suggestion and I just read The Rose Garden last month and was pleasantly surprised. I probably won't get to this month, but I am looking forward to it.
I would definitely recommend Lord John and the Scottish Prisoner on audio. I'm stickler about accents in audiobooks and I've heard someone complained about this one, but I didn't see a problem. It wasn't as broad maybe, but I guess it wouldn't be at that point in his life. It's narrated by two men and I think they both did a good job :)

My library didn't have it so I got a copy on my kindle. I will start on it tonight.

Oh yah, you did say you were adding The Winter Sea, I forgot, sorry! I enjoyed it so much I'm probably going to read another one of hers at some point, would you suggest The Rose Garden? ...
@ Dawn - I have it on my Kobo (lol Canadian Kindle) and will start it too... let me know what you think!

I finished Never Enough and liked it. It wasn't my fav book of the series (that belongs to Brody's book) but still a good way to end it (for now maybe?). Thanks for the Rec!

I started A Lady's Lesson in Scandal but had to put it on the backburner for SOS but I'm going to try to finish it this month too. Thank you very much for the recs!

No problem. I hope you enjoy it!
Yz,
I'm sorry to ask, but how do you get to the buddy thread? How does it work? As you may have concluded by now, I'm new at this. Thanks!

I finished Back on Blossom Street and really liked it. I had read the first one in this series years ago and had forgotten how good they are. It was a nice 'feel-good' kind of story. Some people would probably think that it was too 'neat' with all of the plot threads resolved at the end, but every once in a while it is nice to read a book that has a satisfying ending! Thanks for recommending it!
On to my next one...

You are way ahead of me on the buddy read. I will try to catch up tomorrow."
No problem, Cathy! I read fast and I had to finish it for another challenge. I'll be interested in your thoughts, especially since you are familiar with this world.

haha! Don't feel bad! Do over was really quick or else it would have taken me a couple days. haha I started

I have decided to read Pleasure Unbound and Hounded. I have both reserved and should receive them shortly. I will update when I get them. Thanks for the great picks!

I'm In No Mood For Love - 4 Stars
I enjoyed this one because let's face it, who hasn't woken up at some point with a hangover and some serious regrets over their drunken actions the night before. lol
Simply Irresistible - 3 Stars
Very funny, light read. Only thing that kind of annoyed me was the whole escaping from her own wedding like a criminal trying to escape from the law. She's a grown woman. If she changed her mind about getting married, go out and tell them you changed your mind. Other than that, I enjoyed it.

Have you read the others in the series? I haven't heard anything about them so I wasn't sure if they are as good.

I loved the book ! It's one of the best romance books I have ever read! Thanks for recommendation, Aleksandra! As we planned doing Buddy read, I sure hope you'll love it , too!

Yay Lexa! I'm glad you liked it, I felt the same way. And if you liked Dragon Bound definitely move on to Storm's Heart and Serpent's Kiss, they're both very good. Right now I'm eagerly awaiting #4, Oracle's Moon, I think it comes out next month!
