Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden- This is an awesome book! I read it years ago and saw the movie but it has always stuck with me!
Stupid Cupid - Stop Picking on Me: Recommend a book from a genre other than romance - horror, sci fi, fantasy, crime. Anything low (or non-existent) in terms of romance.
I usually stick to romance novels but a fantasy story that is good as well as a good series is Wizard's First Rule by Terry Goodkind. My hubby recommended it to me!

The Godfather by Mario Puzo

Will be reading shadowland by Meg cabot,.
I will read a few of them this month, I love the picks thanks a lot

Isabella, I am so glad you liked your picks! It was a challenge for me, in a good way. I don't know if you like audiobooks, but in case you do, I loved Water for Elephants, Halfway to the Grave and It Had to Be You in audio! I am definitely reading To Kill a Mockingbird this month, probably in the first half - I need it for another challenge. I would love to read Bloodfever too if time allows.
Phew, it is such a relief that you liked your picks! =)

We have a lot of books in common and it is always fun to find another JAK fan. I hope you like your picks.
Cupids rules! Romance abounds :)
1. Always and Forever: On the Edge by Ilona Andrews - you loved her Kate Daniels series, so give this one a try. The book is much better than the cheesy cover will lead you to believe.
2. Cupid Rules!: Tongue In Chic by Christina Dodd. You don't need to read the first book and this one is much more fun. Also, I noticed you had the rest of the family, check out brother David (who was my favorite) in Once In A Lifetime by Ginna Gray if you can find it.
3. Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend: Spider's Bite by Jennifer Estep. Gin is an assassin and the series just keeps getting better.

Screw Cupid! Who needs romance when you have books?
4. Single and Loving It!: Weddings Can Be Murder by Christie Craig - she reminds me of Jennifer Crusie. This one starts off with a bang. Or Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. This is a humorous look at the apocalypse.
5. Stupid Cupid - Stop Picking on Me: The Spellman Files by Lisa Lutz. The book is written in an unconventional manner and you will most likely be addicted to finding out what trouble PI Izzy and the rest of her crazy family will get into.
6. Valentine's Day Massacre: You like Crusie, so check out this one, which has some mob ties - What The Lady Wants. Or you can start an amazing UF series (although personally, it didn't click for me until book 3) set in Chicago - Storm Front by Jim Butcher

Other stuff happens in Febuary you know - buddy reads
7. Black History Month: I'd be willing to read either Hocus Pocus by Kurt Vonnegut or Cursed! by J.R. Rain if you'd like.
8. President's Day (and Lincoln's birthday): We both have Head Over Heels by Susan Anderson on our TBR pile, maybe it is time to remedy that.
9. Maslenitsa (Russian spring festival): I couldn't find much for this category, the best I came up with was Shadow Touch by Marjorie M. Liu, but it is book 2 of the series.

bonus

Cupid Rules!
Always and Forever:
The Light Fantastic, I saw you read and loved the first one, so might as well continue the series!
Cupid Rules:
Shadowland, I ..."
Sure! You can read whatever you can. :)

Cupids rules! Romance abounds :)
Always and Forever: As much as you liked Peach Keeper by Sarah Addison Allen, you really, really should find a copy of and read Garden Spells and The Girl Who Chased the Moon
Cupid Rules!: Ok, you have read a lot of Lisa Kleypas, but not the Wallflowers series. You should, it starts with Secrets of a Summer Night
Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend: You have read a few Jennifer Crusie books on your shelves, Maybe This Time is one that is fun and leans toward the supernatural.
Screw Cupid! Who needs romance when you have books?
Single and Loving It!: Wife for Hire by Janet Evanovich - ok, it is an older book. You have read a few of the others from this grouping. While it is not the best of JE, IMHO it is one of the best from the group of reprints.
Stupid Cupid - Stop Picking on Me: You have read Dan Brown before, maybe you should try Deception Point - no romance as far as I can remember.
Valentine's Day Massacre: Had trouble with this one, so I stretch the definition a little. In Catherine Coulter's FBI-Thriller series, one of them is set in Chicago and a couple of them have mob connections. Since I can't remember which of the 15 books they are, I am just recommending the whole series :) You might start with book 1 which is The Cove.
Other stuff happens in Febuary you know - buddy reads
Black History Month: A primarily black cover.... In Bed with a Highlander by Maya Banks. (As a buddy read note, I have already read the 1st book but I am waiting on the 3rd book from the library)
President's Day (and Lincoln's birthday): The author is from England, but the American Gods is definitely set all over America. It is a different kind of book with a lot of mythology and adventure. (have to confess that I have read it but would be willing to re-read with you for a Buddy read)
Maslenitsa (Russian spring festival): This one was also difficult for me, came up with Zoya by Danielle Steel. I have read it already but if you wanted to read it, I would pick a different DS.
Bonus Time!
Little Sister: All about weddings, how bout you continue Nora Roberts Bride Quartet. Book 2 is Bed of Roses and there are 4 books in the series.
Hope you can find something in the list that catches your attention, let me know if not and I will through a few more your way.

Hi Rishika!
Thanks for the picks. I've actually read most of the books that you have suggested!
I will try Roses.

Thanks for the great recs. I”ll definitely be reading Rapture in Death since I’m part of the J.D. Robb book-a-month buddy read! I also just yesterday checked Ghost Story out of the libr..."
Did I rec a book out of order?? With the Jim Butcher series, I just meant to read the next in the series - which I thought was #11... If I stuffed up, just read the next one LOL!!
Glad you were able to find a book or two to read :) Let me know on Extreme Exposure. I have a few other buddy reads lined up for early this coming month, so probably couldn't do it until middle of the month :) But I can always catch up/comment late anyway...

Cupids rules! Romance abounds :)
Always and Forever: Something About You - Julie James - You have her books in you favorites shelf so I'm guessing you'll like that one as well.
Cupid Rules!: Perfect Chemistry - Simone Elkeles - A lovely contemporary love story.
Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend: Graceling - Kristin Cashore - A fantasy book with a very strong heroine.

Screw Cupid! Who needs romance when you have books?
Single and Loving It!: Memoirs of a Geisha - Arthur Golden - A beautiful and oh-so-colorful book!
Stupid Cupid - Stop Picking on Me: Magic Bites - Ilona Andrews - The first book of an amazing Urban Fantasy series set in a very complex world.
Valentine's Day Massacre: Some Girls Bite - Chloe Neill - Set in Chicago, this is the story of Merit, an English Literature graduate student and just-turned vampire.

Other stuff happens in Febuary you know - buddy reads
Black History Month: Wake - Lisa McMann
President's Day (and Lincoln's birthday): Stranger in a Strange Land - Robert A. Heinlein
Maslenitsa (Russian spring festival): The Bronze Horseman - Paullina Simons

I haven't read any of the three books above so let me know if you're interested in reading them together as a Buddy read.
Bonus: Heartless - Gail Carriger - This is the 4th book of this series and fits the bonus category so here it is. (Nairabell, congratulations!!)

Happy reading!

Sorry - I posted my comment before I saw this. I'm in, even if I can't start until after everyone else... :)

Happy February! Please see my suggested picks below.
Let me know what you think.
Cupids rules! Romance abounds :)
Always and Forever: The Auction by Kitty Thomas or The Heart of Devin McKade by Nora Roberts
You've rated both of this authors highly!
Cupid Rules!: Hard Evidence by Pamela Clare, next in the I Team series (I've been reading this series and love it)
Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend: Halfway to the Grave by Jeaniene Frost, Night Huntress series, half vamp/half human vamp assasin who falls in love with a vamp who calls himself Bones...
Screw Cupid! Who needs romance when you have books?
Single and Loving It!: The Last Letter from Your Lover by Jojo Moyles, or The Botticelli Secretby Marina Fiorato. These are both kinda sentimental picks from me. The Last Letter makes me think of the tv show Mad Men (which I love) and makes me think of Florence and art history.
Stupid Cupid - Stop Picking on Me: A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray or Blood, Butter and Bonesby Gabrielle Hamilton. One is about a group of girls in an English boarding school and the other is a a chef's memoir.
Valentine's Day Massacre: Some Girls Bite, Chloe Neill’s Chicagoland Vamps series.
Other stuff happens in Febuary you know - buddy reads
Black History Month: Stephen L Carter, The Emperor of Ocean Park or New England White. I have enjoyed this author's work; a mixup of race/culture tension and social expectations.
President's Day (and Lincoln's birthday): Sex On the Moon: The Amazing Story Behind the Most Audacious Heist in History by Ben Mezrich of The Social Network fame.
Maslenitsa (Russian spring festival): Child 44 by Tom Robb Smith
Oops! I just realized that I was supposed to suggest a buddy read here... what about Assassination Vacationby Sarah Vowell?
Bonus Time!
Scandal in Spring, Wallflowers #4 by Lisa Kleypas, or Juliet, Anne Fortier. I've loved the Wallflowers series! Juliet is slow in the beginning, almost to the point of pausing... but if you get through the first half, I think you'll find the other half goes quickly. It's a story about sisters and an inheritance...

Sorry if I confused you. You didn't recommend anything out of order. Turn Coat, which you recommended, is the next in the series that I have to read. I have to read it and Changes before I can read Ghost Story.
I'm flexible about the buddy read. So far, I only have the J.D. Robb buddy read starting on the fifteenth. It looks like a few other people might be reading it as well, so if there is a buddy read thread, we can just comment whenever we fit it into our schedules.

http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/7...

It looks like a bunch of people are going to be reading it, too. haha! A buddy read thread is already open for it. We can join in on that.

Here are your picks. I hope you find something to enjoy!
Cupids rules! Romance abounds :)
Always and Forever: Recommend a book from a series or author that your pickee already loves. The Seduction of the Crimson Rose by Lauren Willig. You liked the first 3 so I think you'll like this one as well. I'm counting down to the release of the lastest in February!
Cupid Rules!: Recommend a romance! Unlocked by Courtney Milan.
I looooved this book. Its short but intense.
Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend: In honour of the leap year tradition where girls propose to guys choose a book with unconventional gender roles or characteristics for the lead characters (kick-ass girls and wimpy guys count!).
Succubus Blues Richelle Mead.
Fabulous series!! Something about the way the characters are written really pulls me in.
Screw Cupid! Who needs romance when you have books?
Single and Loving It!: Recommend a stand-alone novel. The Help by Kathryn Stockett
Stupid Cupid - Stop Picking on Me: Recommend a book from a genre other than romance - horror, sci fi, fantasy, crime. Anything low (or non-existent) in terms of romance. When Gods Die by CS Harris. Another great series with a February new release. They just keep getting better!
Valentine's Day Massacre: In honour of the 1929 Valentine's Day Massacre, choose a book that features gang/mob crime or murder or is set in Chicago. Agnes and the Hitman by Jennifer Crusie. This book was so funny!
Other stuff happens in Febuary you know - buddy reads
I had trouble finding any books we had in common for these so I picked some off my TBR that I thought you might like too.
Black History Month: Pick a book that has a black cover. Darkness Unbound by Keri Arthur. I've had this recommended to me by several people.
President's Day (and Lincoln's birthday): Recommend a book that is set in the US and was written by an American author. Corralled by Lorelei James.
I see you've read her other series so you might want to join me with this one.
Maslenitsa (Russian spring festival): Recommend a book set in Russia written by a Russian author. Magic Burns by Ilona Andrews.
I've already read this one but we are in different places on both of their series and it was the best I could come up with for Russian.
Bonus Time!
My little sister is getting married on February 4th so here's a bonus category to pick for - select a book that is fourth in a series, has a younger sister character or features a wedding :) Darkfever by Karen Marie Moning. Makayla Lane, the main character, is a younger sister. I see you liked her highlander books and I thing these are even better.

Great picks Debbie!
I'm going to read Wife For Hire and Bed of Roses for sure because I have those two on hand. I'm going to check with my library to see what they have available of the other ones. That American Gods sounds interesting and I have never heard of it before. I'm going to look for that one first.
I'll keep you posted and thank you!
~Lacy

President's Day (and Lincoln's birthday): Family Tree by Barbara Delinsky
Maslenitsa (Russian spring festival): Water Bound by Christine Feehan

1. The Seduction of the Crimson Rose I actually was planning on reading this anyway. So excited you chose it for me!

3.Darkness UnboundI would love to try this one and if you would like to do it as a buddy read, great! This will be a new author for me.
TO READ

GREAT PICKS! I loved all of them. Hard to pick just three.

I bought Extreme Exposure about 4 months ago, and just haven't got around to it despite all the +ve reviews I've read :) So thanks for the rec, Michelle! (Bloodfever is set for reading as well :)

I hope I picked something you like. I tried to stay on your TBR list because its so big.

Thanks for the recommendations!
I think this month I will try to read Snowman (is it really okay to read book 7 first?), To tame a highland warrior, and Thorn Queen since you recommended Storm Born, which I've already read.
Thanks again!

Thanks for the picks Lethal! I'm not sure yet what I'm going to read, but I'll let you know as one of the buddy reads is a possibility (got to read the kindle sample first).

Cupid Rules!: Vampires and romance, you can't go wrong Dark Lover
Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend: Halfway to the Grave Just because Kat is a kick butt kinda girl.
Screw Cupid! Who needs romance when you have books?
Single and Loving It!: This was reccomended to me last month and I absolutely love it. And One Last Thing ...
Stupid Cupid - Stop Picking on Me: I haven't read these but I hear good things and as you've read the rest it should be a good pick. A Dance with Dragons
Valentine's Day Massacre: Divergent is set in Chicago.
Other stuff happens in Febuary you know - buddy reads
Black History Month: a black cover.Darkness Unbound I've read her other books and loved them.
President's Day (and Lincoln's birthday): The Trouble With Magic is set in the US, and is on both our TBR lists.
Maslenitsa (Russian spring festival): Set in Russia was the best I could come up with Dark Prince. I have read it but it has been years I could do with a reread.

Hi Nici,
Thanks for the great picks! They look so good I can't decide which one to pick up first! I will definitely be reading several of them.
Just FYI, I have already read the Miss Peregrine one, and I don't know why it is still showing up on my to-be-read list, but I will have to make sure it is moved out of there. I did enjoy it, though.
If you want to do one of the Buddy Reads, let me know because I will be happy to do that. I have all of them except the Abraham Lincoln Vampire one, which I will have to get at the library so it will take me a bit more time.
Thanks again. Happy Reading!

Oooh baby! I'm definitely your type: You gave five stars to the first in the series. I liked the second even more. Read The Sweetest Thing by Jill Shalvis. While you are at it, go ahead and read the third too. Another choice for you would be The Highlander's Touch. You haven't rated a KMM book lower than four stars yet. Although I haven't read any of the Highlander books, I don't see why this would fall off for you.
Love is all you need - Give Megan Hart another chance. Dirty and Naked were both four star reads for me. If you are not digging the deep and dark romance Summer at Seaside Cove was certainly a much more fun and light romance.
Girls rule - Boys drool! (My niece used to tell me that all the time. She's 16 now and has a slightly different opinion.) Mercy Thompson is an auto mechanic. She also turns into a coyote but that's beside the point. I think you'd really like this fun PNR series that starts with Moon Called. Light on the sex but strong on the character. Another woman auto mechanic that is in a story with more sex and and a lot of laughs is Lori Love from Victoria Dahl's [bok:Start Me Up|6187851]. Unfortunately this is book two but don't let that stop you. Read the first and you'll want the second anyway. As far as true 'KICK-ASS!' heroines go, I'd either go with Eve Dallas or Cat (from Cat and Bones). You gave the first Robb book two stars but I'm not sure why. I only gave the first three stars but the series certainly grew on me.
I'm all alone... - Between Lovers is a stand alone. And I see that you haven't read any other Eric Jerome Dickey. So flip on the BET network in the background and get your menage on.
Sometimes you just want a little strange - Nation is some prime YA. I highly recommend it. I think Peter F. Hamilton is the best hard SF writer currently out there. Pandora's Star is the first book of a duology and it is FANTASTIC! But you want really strange? HELP! A Bear is Eating Me! and Extinction Journals are two of the strangest books I've ever read.
Wouldn't it be more interesting if it was known as the Wendy City? - Some Girls Bite is already in your TBR. Maybe you should read it? There is an old Blaze book with Sex in the title about a sculptor that takes place in Chicago. If I remember it, I'll let you know.
Jim's Birthday is in February. Did that make the list? Heck no!
I'm black and I'm proud! - Bloodchild and Other Stories by Octavia Butler is good. and of course the above mentioned Eric Jerome Dickey certainly qualifies.
My momma said I could grow up to be President some day. Of course that was before she looked at my internet search history... - Susan Elizabeth Phillips First Lady. Perfect for this category.
Why are you always rushin' around? Slow down - You want Russian? I'll give you Russian. Crime and Punishment may be a classic, but it is a classic for a reason. A feel bad book all the way around. And I LOVE IT.
Bonus Time!
You want four books about weddings? I give you Susan Mallery's Marcelli Brides. (I actually really liked this series)

Cupids rules! Romance abounds :)
Always and For..."
Suzanne, glad you found something you liked! I enjoyed looking through your books.

You have such a variety of books in your TBR, I had a hard time pinpointing what your interests are, but that is what makes this activity both challenging and fun. So here goes nothing.... : )
ALWAYS AND FOREVER: I Am the Messenger by Markus Zusak (You rated The Book Thief five stars, so I thought i'll recommend another of his books.
CUPID RULES: Slave to Sensation by Nalini Singh (first book of one of my top-favorite series)
DIAMONS ARE A GIRL'S BEST FRIEND - Magic Study by Maria V. Snyder
SINGLE AND LOVING IT - Cry No More by Linda Howard (Despite its name, have some tissues ready)
STUPID CUPID - STOP PICKING ON ME - The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
VALENTINE'S DAY - Glory in Death by J.D. Robb (There is always a murder in an In Death book...I love this series)
BLACK HISTORY MONTH - Looking for Alaska by John Green

PRESIDENT'S DAY - Welcome to Temptation by Jennifer Crusie (hero is the town mayor...this is a crazy, delightful, funny book...)
MASLENITSA - Scent of Darkness by Christina Dodd (PNR book about a cursed Russian family)
BONUS TIME:
Vision in White by Nora Roberts
Hope you find something you will enjoy reading!

Always and Forever: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/16... You seem to be an Allende fan; I heard an interview about this book and it sounded interesting
Cupid Rules!: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/92... This one from your to-read list sounds good.
Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/27... It’s been awhile since I read this one, but my recollection is that the heroine is quite formidable
Screw Cupid! Who needs romance when you have books?
Single and Loving It!: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/22... This is a sensuous and deliciously creepy novel.
Stupid Cupid - Stop Picking on Me: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/64.... I listened to this book on audio and loved it even more than Three Cups of Tea.
Valentine's Day Massacre: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/73... No massacre, but it’s set in Chicago, and it looks like you’ve enjoyed this series
Other stuff happens in Febuary you know - buddy reads
Black History Month: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/40...
President's Day (and Lincoln's birthday): http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/22... ; or for something lighter from an American author http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/27... which is a romance and spoof of an American Idol-type tv series.
Maslenitsa (Russian spring festival): http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/10...
Note that I probably won’t be able to do a buddy read with you—life has suddenly gotten pretty crazy.
Bonus: features a wedding :) http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/55... A nice romance series with lush descriptions of weddings

You have given me so many good choices! I can't believe I am going to say this but I may actually go with HELP! A Bear is Eating Me!. It is something I would not usually read so I just may give it a try.
You gave me Dirty so I feel like I should fit that in this month since you did my recs and all, but...still not sure :)
I am really interested in Summer at Seaside Cove so that is a real possibility. It will at least go on my tbr.
I definitely plan on reading The Sweetest Thing, just not positive it will be this month.
I'm also interested in Between Lovers.
You can't sell me on the Susan Mallery. There seems to always be an unplanned pregnancy in every one of her books and I just don't feel the love connection between her characters like I want to.
But everything else looks great, thanks so much for the great choices.

Here are your picks. I had trouble with a couple, but I hope you find something here that interests you for February!
Cupids rules! Romance abounds :)
Lover Awakened by J.R. Ward - You’ve only read two in the series, but the second book you gave 4 stars to. I think you’ll enjoy the rest of this series, so I’m recommending book #3 from your tbr pile.
Cupid Rules!
Getting Rid Of Bradley by Jennifer Crusie - You liked other books by Crusie, and this is one of my favorites!
Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend
The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde - The main character is this is smart, and the series is fun!
Screw Cupid!
The Princess Bride by William Goldman - This is a fun book. If you've seen and liked the movie, you will like the book as well.
Stupid Cupid - Stop Picking on Me
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak - This is a very good book.
Valentine's Day Massacre:
Naked in Death by J.D. Robb - Another first book in a good series.
Black History Month
Halfway to the Grave by Jeaniene Frost - Another good series! I've already read quite a few in this series, so I wouldn't be joining you for it. But it's a good read (and has a black cover!).
President's Day (and Lincoln's birthday): Touch the Dark by Karen Chance - Again, I've read this one; and again it's the start of a great series. I guess I have a pattern going here! And this one is not about politics in the normal sense, but vampire and mages politics are involved.
Maslenitsa (Russian spring festival)
I had a bit of trouble with this one, but then I found
Kiss an Angel by Susan Elizabeth Phillips and it sounds good to me, so I’m recommending it to you (and I’ve put it on the waiting list at the library for myself!).
Bonus Time!
The Bride by Julie Garwood - I don’t know anything about this book, but I usually like books by Garwood so I’m recommending this one!
Happy reading!

Always and Forever: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/16... You seem to be..."
Carla, thank you for the picks. I will definitely read
Practical Magic and Vision in White. I really want to read Catherine the Great: Portrait of a Woman but there is a 5 month wait for it at the library. Maybe I'll get to it this Summer. :-)

Categories were really tough this month (at least for me) but I hope I found something that you will like. I tried sticking to your TBR most of the time. If not, tell me..."
Yay! I am glad you found something you liked. :)
