2012 February - Pick It For Me! Challenge

Cupid Rules
1. Always and Forever - You seem to like Ilona Andrews and Nalini Singh and Charlaine Harris, maybe you would want to try Must Love Hellhounds, not sure if it's in the middle of a series or not, couldn't figure out all the different books! Also, you love Outlander and Diana Gabaldon (me too) - have you considered any of the Lord John Series? The Scottish Prisoner has Jamie in it... not sure to what extent but Jamie.... Lord John and the Scottish Prisoner
2. Cupid Rules - On that note, I'm currently reading The Winter Sea by Susanna Kearsley, it's gotten good reviews as a romance novel and is set in Scotland... I think you read one of her other ones. Or you could try a quick read - Nora Roberts new book The Next Always - #1 in a series of 3.
3. Diamonds - unconventional ladies - Dead Reckoning to get another Sookie fix or maybe you would like one of Janet Evonovich's books - One for the Money, Stephanie Plum's a bounty hunter and this is on the big screen as we speak - I enjoy the series.
Stupid Cupid
4. Single - Rules of Civility is one I recently read over Christmas and it's one of my new favorites... loved everything about it. Or since you have The Kite Runner on your list, you could try that or even A Thousand Splendid Suns I heard it's supposed to be just as good if not better, I haven't read it yet so don't know..
5. Stupid Cupid - you seem to like the Twilight series, so maybe you may want to try The Host by Stephanie Meyer, or I think you had The Book Thief on your TBR list, doesn't seem Valentin-ey
6. V-Day massacre - The Sisters Brothers by Patrick deWhitt, haven't read it, debating on reading it at some point, won a Canadian Governor General's award, about 2 brothers, who are henchman and sounds like some killing in it...
Other Stuff in February
7. Black History Month - The Secret Life of Bees is one of my favorite books, if you liked The Help, you may like this one
8. Presidents Day - I chose an American Author - Maggie Stiefvater's 1st in the series - Shiver, again, you may like as you enjoyed some YA
9. Russia - I have The Bronze Horseman on my list - I think you had it on your TBR shelf but I'm getting tired and my head is swimming...
10. Bonus - A wedding theme book, maybe you'd like Something Borrowed by Emily Griffin...
Well, there they are - good luck with finding something and I hope you enjoy it!! Kimmy

Here are some picks for you. I tried to get some from your list, some that I knew about, and some that are new to both of us (for some of the Buddy Reads). If you don't see anything you like here, let me know and I can add some more. It was fun going through your lists and I found lots of your titles that I also want to read! Happy Reading!
Cupids rules! Romance abounds:
Always and Forever: Rachel Gibson: I’m In No Mood for Love (Writer Friends #2) or Simply Irresistible (Chinook Hockey Team #1) or any of hers you haven’t yet read
Gemma Halliday: Undercover in High Heels (#3) or Alibi in High Heels (#4) or any of hers you haven’t read
Cupid Rules!: The French Gardener by Santa Montefiore (I just read this one last month and LOVED it!) Amulet by S. Wolf (from your TBR list – really looks good!)
Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend: Pope Joan by Donna Woolfolk Cross - a female pope?! Can’t get more unconventional than that. (I read this one recently and loved it.)
Sixteen Brides – Stephanie Grace Whittson - This one features women who go out West and behave in ways the men do not expect – a very good read!
Screw Cupid! Who needs romance when you have books?
Single and Loving It!: Slow Dancing on Price’s Pier by Lisa Dale
The Scent of Rain and Lightning – Nancy Pickard ( I loved both of these!)
Stupid Cupid - Stop Picking on Me: Grave Sight (Harper Connelly series #1) – Charlaine Harris - I saw you have some paranormal ones on your list, and the main character in this series has a fascinating ability!
The Blue Light Project by Timothy Taylor – This one is also from your TBR list and looked really good.
Valentine's Day Massacre: Nancy Martin’s series with the Blackbird Sisters is great and funny - #1 is called How to Murder a Millionaire (and one of the hunky male main characters has mob connections)
Casting the First Stone - Kimberla Lawson Roby (set behind the scenes in a Chicago church where the minister is the one sinning)
Other stuff happens in Febuary you know - buddy reads
Black History Month: Bachelor Undone by Brenda Jackson (black main character – an undercover cop at a beach resort)
Song of Solomon – by Toni Morrison (or any others of hers) (black author)
Last Night at the Lobster – Stewart O’Nan (intriguing black cover)
Lost Light – Michael Connelly (mostly black cover)
The Girl Who Chased the Moon – Sarah Addison Allen (black cover with a few other colors)
President's Day (and Lincoln's birthday): Julie Hyzy’s White House Chef series features the White House, politics, food, and mystery: (State of the Onion is the first one but I have already read that one). I have not read any of the others in this series: Hail to the Chef; Eggsecutive Orders; or Buffalo West Wing. They are part of a series but can be read as stand-alones if you would want to. I’d be willing to do a Buddy Read for any of them.
Maslenitsa (Russian spring festival): Lolita – by Vladimir Nabokov ; Doctor Zhivago by Boris Pasternak; The Cherry Orchard by Anton Chekhov; Moscow Farewell by George Feifer; The Man from St. Petersburg by Ken Follett. Or any of the Stuart M. Kaminsky mysteries set in Russia.
Even though I read the first two on this list, it was long, long ago and I would be willing to do a Buddy Read for them anyway. The last three are ones I have always wanted to read, and I would also like to try some of the Kaminsky mysteries sometime.
Bonus Time!
A Piggly Wiggly Wedding by Rob Dalby
Lucy Sulllivan Is Getting Married – Marian Keyes (I am just finishing Watermelon by her and really enjoying it.)
The Diva Takes the Cake – Krista Davis (features a sister who is getting married!)
Let me know if you want to do any as Buddy Reads.
Happy Reading!

Cupids rules! Romance abounds
Always and Forever:Call Me Irresistible
Cupid Rules!: Stardust of Yesterday
Diamon..."
I absolutely love them Miss! I love this month! My fav genre ever! :D Hehe I haven't decided what to read yet, definitely the Harlequins though!

Cupids rules! Romance abounds!
Always and Forever: Dreamfever by Karen Marie Moning - it looks like you lo..."
Oh so many great picks. I will probably start with Dreamfever because I really want to know what happened to Mac

Finally, your picks are up. I had fun going through your shelves. I've tried to recommend a balance of books from your existing shelves and some new-to-you. I might have gone overboard too. If you'd like me to repick for any of the categories, just let me know!
Cupids rules! Romance abounds :)
Always and Forever:
1. Mine to Possess by Nalini Singh - You've got to continue the series. How else are you going to read Riley or Drew or HAWKE's books??? The SOS group is doing the (re)read the whole PS&C challenge. I'm not sure if you joined in but if not, you should! It looks like to fun :)
2. Bayou Moon by Ilona Andrews - You've loved the Kate Daniels series. You've also liked the first book in the series. So logically, you should continue the series. Oh, I haven't either :P. So if you're open, we can do a buddy read for this book.

Cupid Rules!:
1. A Lady's Lesson in Scandal by Meredith Duran - I keep meaning to read this but I haven't yet. It has got good reviews and Meredith Duran is a great author. Try this one (and let me know!)
2. Proof by Seduction by Courtney Milan - I've read Unlocked and it was a great novella. I haven't read the other books but I keep meaning to. Milan generally has had good reviews on this book. So it may be the time to try it..
3. Attachments by Rainbow Rowell - This is not on your TBR but it's a contemporary I read and loved a few months back. Give it a chance!

Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend:
1. The Bro-Magnet by Lauren Baratz-Logsted - So DearAuthor reviewed this book and I bought it based on the review. And you know what? The book lives up to the review. It was laugh-out funny. The lead guy is a guy's guy so much that he can never score with the ladies. It's fun watching him go through hoops to catch a lady and a refreshing change to a chick-magnet guy.
2. The Shadow and the Star by Laura Kinsale - This is probably cheating but the hero is a virgin. Enough said. You gotta read this one - it's my favorite Kinsale so far.

Screw Cupid! Who needs romance when you have books?
Single and Loving It!:
1. Her Best Friend by Sarah Mayberry - Sarah Mayberry is an auto-buy author for me. You can't lose. Plus, you can zip through them with all the enjoyment in a short period of time.
2. Love at First Flight by Marie Force - I liked the blurb. Give it a try?

Stupid Cupid - Stop Picking on Me:
1. Eon: Dragoneye Reborn by Alison Goodman - Tricky part. This is a YA, fantasy with a kick-ass heroine and an almost non-existent romance. But it's action through and through and well-steeped in chinese mythology. I read it last month and I loved it.
2. The Better Part of Darkness by Kelly Gay - This might be more to your liking - UF with a kick-ass heroine and no romance. I liked the first book and I want to continue reading the next two.

Valentine's Day Massacre:
1. Summer Knight by Jim Butcher - You've read the first 3 and it is said that from the 4th book, it starts getting better. We can also buddy read this as I haven't read this yet either.

Other stuff happens in Febuary you know - buddy reads
Black History Month:
1. Blood Rights by Kristen Painter - Black cover.
2. Naked in Death by J.D. Robb - With a bit of cheating, I managed to fit the book. You've gotta read this book. It's an amazing amazing series.
President's Day (and Lincoln's birthday):
1. Firewalker by Allyson James - I haven't read this either..
Maslenitsa (Russian spring festival): Recommend a book set in Russia, with a Russian character or written by a Russian author.
1. The Bronze Horseman by Paullina Simons - This is the only book that I can remember now set in Russia. It's a historical I guess and it's been on my TBR for a long time. Would you like to try it too?

Bonus Time!
I'll get to it later - I gotta go now to work!!
Happy Reading!

I'd already planned to read

I'm also going to add

Again, thank you so very much. There have been PIFM's where my picker rec'd books I had absolutely no desire (or the money) to read. That is definitely not the case here. ^_^

I hope you find something you like!
Cupids rules! Romance abounds :)
Always and Forever: Vengeance in Death by JD Robb

A Hunger Like No Other by Kresley Cole

Always & Forever - Lady Luck - I haven't read but you most certainly looked like you liked the series and I have added the first book to my already huge TBR.
Lucky in Love - you seemed you liked this series so why not go on, are they any good btw?
This Same Earth - sounds interesting to me...
Cupid Rules - Zero at the Bone
Call Me Irresistible - one of my favourite SEP's.
Fifty Shades of Grey
Diamond's are a Girl's Best Friend - This Side of the Grave
Something About You - you liked her books so this one was not bad either.
Screw Cupid! Who needs romance when you have books?
Single & loving it! - Amy and Roger's Epic Detour - not sure how you feel about YA books with some teenage angst in it, but this one was good although it is still romance in the end ;)
Juliet - A different Romeo& Juliet story with mystery elements in it.
Barefoot - basically a women's fiction but it was a good one.
Stupid Cupid - stop picking on me - The Lightning Thief
A Game of Thrones
Divergent
especially the last two were some of my favourite reads last year.
Valentine's Day Massacre - Before I Go to Sleep - not a murder book but a very good thriller, still counts I hope!
Night Road - a womens fiction but it has a murder in it! Still good though
Cut & Run - I like them both what can I say!
Naked in Death - it was a fast paced romantic suspense.
Other stuff happens in February you know - Buddy Reads
Black history month - based on black covers
Trust in Advertising
Faith & Fidelity
The Night Circus
President Day (& Lincoln's Bday) - based on American writers
Naked

I think I`m going to read Nerd in Shining Armor - just loved this title.
I`m waiting for the arrival of Whispers in the Dark and Darker After Midnight, and as I live in Brazil I don´t know if I`ll have them in my hands till the end of the month. But as soon as they arrive I´m going to read them as well.

Cupids rules! Romance abounds :)
Always and Forever: Blue-Eyed Devil by Lisa Kleypas - I’ve seen you like her books and you’ve already read the fist book of the series
Cupid Rules!: “Nine Rules to Break when Romancing a Rake” by Sarah MacLean – really nice book if you like historical romances, or “Unsticky” by Sarra Manning - if you prefer a contemporary romance
Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend: Fallen from Grace by Laura Leone – here the male character is quite unusual
Screw Cupid! Who needs romance when you have books?
Single and Loving It!: Practice makes Perfect by Julie James – on your list, I think this is the best Julie James’ book
Stupid Cupid - Stop Picking on Me: The Blue Nowhere by Jeffrey Deaver – a great thriller, one of the best I’ve read in a long time
Valentine's Day Massacre: Sex, Lies, and Online Dating by Rachel Gibson or Something about You by Julie James – both are the first book of the series, even if you can read them as stand alone books
Other stuff happens in Febuary you know
I really couldn’t fine anything for buddy reads, so I’ve chosen something I’ve already read. I could always re-read something, I’d read it a long time ago.
Black History Month: Black Ice by Anne Stuart – this is the first book of one really great series, and it gets better (“Ice blue” and “Fire and Ice” were the best IMO)
President's Day (and Lincoln's birthday): “The Pelican Brief” by John Grisham – again, a great thriller
Maslenitsa (Russian spring festival): “The Master and Margarita” by Mikhail Bulgavok – this is a book different from everything you’ve ever read…

I'm glad you found something you want to read. Enjoy!

Hi Kimmy! Lol! When I first joined GRs and started the doing the PIFM challenge I used to think the same thing about other people's shelves. I guess I should've given you a map, sorry *shrugs sheepishly*. Mine are light compared to other's, so you have that to look forward to :)
Thanks for the picks, they're great! I love getting a mix of tbr and new-to-me books, so you did a great job. I've added Must Love Hellhounds and The Winter Sea to my tbr (see what you did!) and I've decided to go with Lord John and the Scottish Prisoner for sure. I've not read any of the Lord John books, I don't know why because I like John as a character. I think I'll do this one on audio.
I'm looking forward to it, thanks!

I think we have a lot in common with our taste in books, I had the feeling that there were alot of books you have read that weren't on your shelves though, so if I have recommended t..."
thanks for the amazing picks i'm gonna try to read
Touch the Dark,Mistress and Just Like Heaven

Really hope you like your picks! And again, I’m sorry this took so long!
Always and Forever
Me, Myself and Why? by MaryJanice Davidson
I notice you love most of her books! And since you haven’t read this one yet, I figure it’s a great time to read it! The one book I read of hers was really funny, so I hope this is too!
Cupid Rules!
Something Wonderful by Judith Mcnaught
You seem to like several JM books, and well, I love her books! I have to recommend Something Wonderful which I found really good! Its part of the series of Almost Heaven and Once and Always. However, characters from Once and Always are not there!
Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend
Splendid by Julia Quinn
She’s pretty headstrong and doesn’t just give in to him! I read it recently, my first read of the year:P, and loved it!
Single and Loving It!
Bond of Hatred by Lynne Graham.
His Mistress for a Million by Trish Morey
For Bond of Hatred, the guy is an alpha male who thinks that every single woman in the world loves him. Except for the heroine. It’s pretty sweet and the whole book was great! It was heart-wrenching at times, to be sure! As for His Mistress for a Million, I was blown away by the plot. I’m not entirely sure if the heroine is to your liking, but I really loved the characters.
Stupid Cupid - Stop Picking on Me
The Undomestic Goddess by Sophie Kinsella
I think it will give you a good laugh! :D Little bit of romance so if you don’t want it then perhaps you could try Eragon by Christopher Paolini. It’s YA Fantasy. I found it pretty good! Don’t bother with the movie though, it’s terrible compared to what the book is like!
Valentine's Day Massacre
1st to Die by James Patterson
I love JP, so I may be a bit biased, but I found the story very well laid out and overall it was really pretty good!
Black History Month: Pick a book that is written by a black author, has a black main character or a black cover.
Love Unscripted by Tina Reber
Hmm, this was quite difficult for me because I don’t really read books based on author or color of characters! I probably have read some of them, I just have no idea what! I probably didn’t even realise they were black, heh Anw! I chose this as it has a black cover! Looks real good to me!
President's Day (and Lincoln's birthday): Recommend a book that is set in the US, features politics or was written by an American author.
Bone Cold by Erica Spindler
It’s set in the US and written by an American author. This is a psychological thriller, it took me forever to try and remember its name. There are romance aspects inside it too, according to the reviews. What I remember from reading this book few years back was that it was really really good and it didn’t just dabble in the mind part. It really went in depth into the mental state and all. It was kind of scary for me, perhaps because I read it at night and I was only 14 at the time… Yep, sure hope you like it!
Maslenitsa (Russian spring festival)
Secret Fire by Johanna Lindsey
I loved this book! One of my favorites of all time, so I hope you’ll like it too! Set it Russia with a hot Russian hero. The heroine isn’t the normal romance heroine, so it is something different.
Bonus Time!
Dream a Little Dream by Susan Elizabeth Philips.
Awesome book, to be sure, I loved it! 4th in the Chicago Stars Series. It really touched my heart when I read it. The heroine is really really strong inside.

I am not sure if i will read others that you picked this time around, i will try to get to them. Thank you so much!

Cupid Rules: Too Much Temptation by Lori Foster-I loved this book, pure romance by one of my favorite authors!
Diamonds are a Girls BF: Blameless by Gail Carriger-I saw that you read the previous books in the series-This one definitely has a kick-ass girl!

Stupid Cupid: The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini-one of my favorite non-romance books!
Valentine's Day Massacre: The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo by Steig Larsson-Definitely has a murder in it. Or Alexandra’s Legacy by N.J. Walter-based out of my hometown...Sweet Home Chicago!

Other stuff happens in February-Buddy Reads

haha, You are not late Elke, right on time.
Great selection to chose from - Thanks.
I think I will probably go with one of the Cupid Rules! choices since I have them available (I am bummed to still be waiting for one of my January books from the library). I will either pull out Envy, Too Much Temptation or Blameless, can't decide yet.

Oh I know, but I am normally one of the first people to post! Oh that stinks...I hate when the library doesn't get you the book in time! Don't they know its for a challege?? Lol!

Regina, I'm glad you were able to find something that interested you! I hope you can get the books you're waiting for soon - gotta love those Kelly brothers! :)

I hope you find something you like!
Gigi,
Thank you for the picks!
I have put both First Grave on the Right and Zoya on hold at the library. If it looks like I won't get to check out either book in February, then I will read Vengeance in Death!!

I decided to read Dead Reckoning this month, haven't read one of Charlaine H's books in a bit. I will also add The Trouble With Magic to my list for February, as it's a new author and I want to try something different. If you want to to a buddy read let me know.. I have no idea when I'll get to it though, probably not till the middle/end of the month. I have to finish my current book and I'm only on like page 60 of 500ish pges, just got a few things on the go so not sure how quick I'll be with this one. If you think you might read The Trouble with Magic let me know and we can try to coordinate something that suits ya! :)
Thanks for the recs, they were all good ones! I will get to most of them - at some point!

Hello Again Lexa!, Lover Revealed is on it's way to you :) It went out 'media mail' and you should receive it by this Sat. All of your choices are good, but I'm really excited that you chose The Last Werewolf. It was way out of my normal comfort zone, but was a very pleasant surprise. I don't know how you feel about audiobooks, but the narrator was great. Either way, I hope you enjoy it too :)

I'm just starting to get the hang of using some of the good reads features such as comparing books and such - to help with recs for these challenges... when I first started these challenges, I'm not sure my picks were that well suited to my poor pickees... trying to get better each time I participate. I really liked Summer at Seaside Cove and hope you choose that one. It's light and funny.
Between Lovers is also a really good choice.
Skip the Dirty if you have any reservations.
I understand that somebody can't sneeze without getting pregnant in a susan Mallery book. But I still like them. Call it a character flaw if you'd like. :-P
