Edward | 4 comments Which fictional character would you most like to be, if you had the choice?
Dexter? Philip Marlowe? Agent Starling?

message 2: by Cary (new)

Cary (vortigern) | 344 comments Oh man you had to ask. For starters Paul Atreidies aka Maud'Dib in Dune. Aragorn the self exhiled King who lives with the elves in Lord of the Rings. On the dark side Dracula. The lonely vampire necromancer. Sherlock Holmes getting loaded and solving crimes. Somebody stop me I could go off on a list. I would not want to be any TV personality but one. Doctor Who

message 3: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Angell (heidiangell) | 211 comments Cary, I would totally be Dr. Who too!! But which season? I would have to be a future season as there has not been a female Dr. Who... yet ;) Hmmm... I see myself as sort of a grown up Rose Hathaway from Vampire Academy series. (Well, except for the whole staking the undead thing, but I could get down with that!) I also really relate to Riatha from Eye of the Hunter. Yeah, that last post when we were talking about strong females... that is me! But I wouldn't want to be any of the characters that live in the mundane real world. That is why I am an author, so I can escape the real world every day!!

message 4: by Cary (new)

Cary (vortigern) | 344 comments Well which season is easy. Tom Baker the fourth Doctor 1974 to 1981. With his long hair and scarf will always be my favorite doctor. The doctor used to have K-9 the dog robot as his companion. Now he always has a sweet female companion or companions. The doctor acts all proper but I am convinced he's a real lecher,LOL. The latest Doctor Who Matt Smith,Amelia Pond Karen Gillian, and the Docs future wife River Song Alex Kingston are my favorite crew. To bad Karen Gillian is leaving. She is the hotest thing ever to hit Doctor Who : )

message 5: by Karen M (last edited Jan 22, 2012 11:27AM) (new)

Karen M Well, LOL, after a bit of thought, Jo from Little Women because she became a writer, found her one true love and she also opened Plumfield to help orphaned and unwanted boys.

Now, I also wouldn't mind being Akasha from The Queen Of The Damned, all powerful and evil. Hopefully I'll use my powers a little better than in the book and end up with LeStat. LOL

message 6: by Cary (new)

Cary (vortigern) | 344 comments Yeah I dig the powerful and evil element. But evil only to the extent of getting my own way,and fullfilling my own desires irregardless of who gets hurt. Not evil for evils sake.

message 7: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Angell (heidiangell) | 211 comments Karen: Wow, going from Jo in Little Women to Akasha. That is a jump girl!! But there is some allure to being all powerful, even in Evil's form.
Cary: I think this crew is the best too and cannot imagine what they will do to replace Karen! But then I have thought that every time the Doctor changes or changes companions so... ( Well, except for Donna... I don't know why, but I never really cared for her. She got annoying after awhile!)

message 8: by Cary (new)

Cary (vortigern) | 344 comments Donna the Blonde girl? I will have to check the companions list. Yup Karen is so freaking hot with that auburn hair, and Scottish accent. I am sure she got nabed by Hollywood for a better deal. She really needed a few more seasons with the doctor. Her parting profile pic on the 2012 BBC fansite is just smoking. The doctor has two hearts. I wonder does he have two of everything? Two, hearts, two hands, two feet. I think he could have handled Amelia and River. All he needed to do was dis Rory. tee hee

message 9: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Angell (heidiangell) | 211 comments Donna was a redhead too, kinda hefty, REALLY obnoxious and obsessed with finding a rich husband (I think that is why she annoyed me!) She was running about with her grandad all the time. Rose was the blond and she was meh.. ok.

message 10: by Cary (new)

Cary (vortigern) | 344 comments Matt almost got the coolest guy in Britain award. Some actor or singer guy got it. But I think Matt Smith is the coolest. Rose was OK and the black girl. I need to get BBCAmerica again. I liked Being Human girl Lenora Crithlow. I liked the US version too. I could have dug being vampire Aiden. He was cool. It just bumbed me he could not get along with his sire.

message 11: by stormhawk (new)

stormhawk | 1184 comments yes, I also would like to be the Doctor ... who says that Time Lords can't have a regeneration as the opposite sex!

As far as book characters I'd like to be ... One of the Gold riders from Dragonriders of Pern, Lessa, probably. Or Menolly from the Harper series, I'm quite musical ...

Tarma the swordswoman from Mercedes Lackey's Oathbound series.

I always wanted to be a Bond or Quiller type character ... Spy, license to kill, that sort of thing.

Lyla (idruzy) Finley Jayne. She kicks major butt.
The sorting hat from Harry Potter...lol.
Or Mara Dyer. Tough choice but those would be my Top 3. Not in that order, of course lol. XD

The Girl in the Steel Corset (Steampunk Chronicles, #1) by Kady Cross The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer (Mara Dyer, #1) by Michelle Hodkin

Cary (vortigern) | 344 comments This is a book club. Why do people always digress to TV & Movies. Humph! Maud'Dib the litany "Fear is the mind killer. The little death that brings total oblivion. I will conquer my fear, and let it wash over me. In the end only I shall reamin." What girl or boy would you like to hook up with in the books. For me the choice is simple the beautiful bisexual vampire girl Carmilla. In my mind I have loved her since I was 14. "Her soft cheak glowing next to mine. Darling, darling'she murmured'I live in you;and you would die for me. I love you so. You must come with me,loving me, to death; or else hate me, and still come with me.,and hating me through death, and after. Your life dying sweetly. Oh so sweetly into mine." She held me close, and covered my face with hot kisses. Pushing her away I said "Carmilla you are talking your wild nonsense again. You frighten me when you talk so." Bear in mind this was written like 1876. Carmilla, I so want to love me and take me with her beyond this life.

message 20: by Glennamargaret (new)

Glennamargaret Oh. Hermione Granger. Hands down. My idol.

message 21: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Angell (heidiangell) | 211 comments Haha, Glannamargaret~ When I was in high school, everyone teased me because I was just like her! In college I would actually count to ten before raising my hand to answer questions, because I didn't want to get the same rap. As an adult, I realize that there is nothing wrong with being eager to learn and willing to apply that knowledge! Excellent choice!!

message 22: by Literary Demon (new)

Literary Demon (literarydemon) | 16 comments I would either be Eragon from the Inheritance series(c'mon who wouldn't want to be a powerful mage with a pet Dragon), or maybe Richard from Terry Goodkinds Sword of Truth Series. again super powerful warrior with enough magic to blast their troubles away. not to mention a really hot wife!

message 23: by Cary (last edited Jan 26, 2012 06:31AM) (new)

Cary (vortigern) | 344 comments When I was in Highschool grades 9 -10. I first went to an Augustinian prep school built like an old castle or schloss http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cascia_H... called Casica Hall. It had huge grounds surrounded by field and forest but still within the city. Check it out online. That's were I read Carmilla. It reminds me of Hogwarts. J.K. Rowling got her idea for Hogwarts from the Scholomance. A legendary school for white magic & esoteric thought. Located in Transylvania & run by Hapsburg governor Sameul Von Brukenthal. There are two versions of this school. The oldest & original version used by Braum Stoker in Dracula. The Scholomance is a medievel school of the Dark Arts run by the Devil himself. Braum Stoker in his book reveals Dracula had attended this school. Located at Lake Hermanstadt in the Carpathian Mountains. Ten disciples were granted admitance each year. One of each ten was chosen as the devils assistant. He was the one who raised his hand to much,LOL. Folk lore is so facinating. : )

Thank you! You should take being compared to her as a compliment! I would :)

message 25: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Angell (heidiangell) | 211 comments I do now, but in school it was hard not fitting in. It is nice to grow up and see things as they are, not as others want you to see them!

message 26: by Cary (new)

Cary (vortigern) | 344 comments Just like the famous YA reading book by Tulsa author S.E. Hinton. The Outsiders was exactly like my like my life in high school. I went to the same high school in 10-12th grade. Central High downtown. We did not have a sports field. The school was right in the middle of downtown Tulsa. Transfering to this school from a private Catholic prep school was a real shocker. I wanted to go to a school where there were girls, and you could grow out your hair, and protest the war in Vietnam. Central high was one cool highschool. Each corner of the rectangular school was divided into social hangouts. The southwest corner(hippies/beats),the south east corner(Jocks/Jockets only),norht west corner(blacks only), and the north east corner(Geeks/Socialoutcasts). I bounced back, and forth between hippy, and black corner. The blacks called me Jesus because of my long hair, and ability to talk to them. This was a very unique school to say the least. Coming from Cascia I was picked on allot, and my expierience with girls was limited coming from an all boys catholic school. I got used to it however. Being very traveled and studious I was just really out of place in this rough, and tumble school. But I adapted, and reveled in it. ; ). Supfly

message 27: by Amy (new)

Amy I wouldn't want to be anyone but myself, but my favorite character at the moment is Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games Trilogy.

message 28: by Cary (new)

Cary (vortigern) | 344 comments I could dig being Dr. Martin Hesselius. Figure that one.

message 29: by Tori (new)

Tori (gwyllon) I'd have to say Mercy Thompson Moon Called

message 30: by Mia (new)

Mia (hotwolfie) | 46 comments Princess Buttercup from The Princess Bride! Man, I'd love to climb those Cliffs of Insanity and have The Dread Pirate Roberts save me.

message 31: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Angell (heidiangell) | 211 comments Really, Mia? I mean, it would be cool to climb the cliffs of insanity and have Wesley as your forever bondmate, but... I could not stand her! She was so snooty and wretched to him. I really though Wesley could have done better. (I wasn't the most beautiful girl in the world, so maybe I have a complex here... meh!)

message 32: by Mia (new)

Mia (hotwolfie) | 46 comments Heidi, I mean it, every "syllabub" of it ;)

I'd have the princess title (though I wouldn't be queen due to not marrying Humperdinck, but still, princess is v. good). I'd get to hang out with Inigo Montoya and Fezzik. And I'd have Westley to with as I wish.

Muad'Dib was another character I'd consider, but I think being a princess would be less pressure, and much more enjoyable in the long run.

Heidi Angell (heidiangell) | 211 comments Hmm, fair enough. Sadly, I have not read the Dune series... I really need to!

message 34: by Cary (last edited Feb 11, 2012 07:27AM) (new)

Cary (vortigern) | 344 comments It deepends whether you want to be a person or liesure or responsability. I could dig being Sherlock Holmes. Only Sherlock seem's to have no interest in women. That would never do. Maybe a Sherlock Holmes in the interpretation of Richard Downys Sherlock in Game of Shadows. Even Doctor Watson ends up getting married to a woman from one of Holmes cases. I think the girl in Sign of Four. I love Sherlock Holmes because in between cases he is taking morphine, cocaine, smoking, and playing the violin. All these things were legal in the Victorian era. Even playing violin, LOL. Today everything has to be so controlled, and opinionated. Oh an I would want a title as well. Something like Spiritual Advisor/See'r or Grand Physician to some powerful person or country.

stormhawk | 1184 comments Heidi wrote: "Hmm, fair enough. Sadly, I have not read the Dune series... I really need to!"

Read and enjoy Dune. You don't really need any of the others. Seriously. They go rapidly downhill into weirdness. Okay, if you really must, read Dune Messiah and Children of Dune, but leave God Emperor of Dune and everything after in the bookstore.

(I'm saying this as a real Dune fanatic, by the way.)

Razmatus | 241 comments Ned Stark's sword cos it is so cool :D

message 37: by stormhawk (new)

stormhawk | 1184 comments I don't know if I'd want to be Katniss. Well, maybe if I didn't have to be so indecisive.

message 38: by Cary (new)

Cary (vortigern) | 344 comments Oh I could dig being John Carter of Mars too. I read every book Edgar Rice Burroughs ever wrote. I so totaly like old school stuff.

Totally agree with you there. Dune was amazing, and Dune Messiah held its own pretty well.

message 40: by Cary (new)

Cary (vortigern) | 344 comments I think all the Dune series books are good. Children of Dune was good. Nothing has the impact of the first book in a series. Dune is a very complex scifi space epic. Real genious there. People don't move at light speed. Space is folded like an accordion. The book is different of course better than the movie. But the movie is just bad ass.

Lynch's Dune looked really cool, but I liked the tv mini-series adaptation the best.

Other fictional characters that would be interesting to be would be Juno or Jupiter. I could really dig being a goddess :)

message 42: by Cary (new)

Cary (vortigern) | 344 comments Yah I dig that Helenistic pantheon too. I would be Mars.

message 43: by stormhawk (new)

stormhawk | 1184 comments I love David Lynch films. I love Dune.

These two things are often mutually exclusive, based on other comments that I've read. So ... I've tried to compartmentalize a bit ... I try to watch Dune as a David Lynch film rather than an adaptation of a book that I love. I know this is kind of a weird, split-mind kind of attitude, but when you try to squish a book with such complex ideas into a two hour movie, you lose a lot.

My aunt saw Lynch's Dune in theaters when it first came out. And she said they handed out pamphlets (basically cheat sheets) with her tickets explaining what the heck's going on lol

Yeah, Dune's pretty complex for a single movie. I think it was better suited as a mini-series.

message 45: by stormhawk (new)

stormhawk | 1184 comments I saw it in the theater before they started handing out the cheat sheet for the clueless. Probably opening day or close to it.

message 46: by [deleted user] (new)

I would want to be Prof. Mcgonagall from the Harry Potter series.

message 47: by Cary (last edited Mar 05, 2012 06:49PM) (new)

Cary (vortigern) | 344 comments Stormhawk that is very funny that your aunt could not figure out what was going on in Lynches Dune. Neither could I the first time. So I read the book, and watched the movie again a couple times before I could figure what was going on. I have seen clips of the mini series. I like the Lynch film better. Because of it's cast of excellent actors. But you have to have read the book first or you will be just clueless. The concepts in Dune are so way out there. Like space travel. Not by traveling at light speed but by folding space like an accordion. What a wild concept but it really makes sense. Because even traveling at light speed it would take a human being a life time to get to the nearest planet similar enough to our own to sustain life. Then there is the spice. So very addictive. Yet it extends life, and expands conciousness. Dune is probably the most complex and well writen of all Space Sagas.

Yue | 38 comments Anne Shirley of Anne of Green Gables. She has a wonderful family, lovely Gilbert, tons of friends, lives in beautiful places such as Avonlea and Four Winds and in spite of several adversities, she is always happy with her life.

message 49: by stormhawk (new)

stormhawk | 1184 comments Cary wrote: "Stormhawk that is very funny that your aunt could not figure out what was going on in Lynches Dune."

That was Mia's aunt. None of my aunts were big science fiction readers!

message 50: by Cary (new)

Cary (vortigern) | 344 comments OK then. Must be my medications. I need to slow down, and read things more carefully. Point is Dune is a great Movie but you should see it after you have read the book. At the time it was simply ground breaking reading. With new concepts of war and space travel that were novel to say the least. I want to be Paul Atredies, and John Carter of Mars.
