Loretta (lorettalucia) Please discuss below!

Bookworm Adventure Girl (bookwormadventuregirl) What does everyone think of Lydgate? The descriptions of him are interesting and I am looking forward to seeing how his character develops. I think he could be quite complex as a doctor with some of his ideals.

Sera I'm on the fence about Lydgate. I like that he's progressive in his medical approach but there's something about him that I don't trust.

Juliette I don't know about him, but I do like his background story and his first experience with love. It somehow makes him more human to me and now I understand why he's against marriage while before I just thought he was self centered and too good for marriage.

I like Fred, even though he's...well a bit of a scoundrel, the person he's in love with says a lot about him.

Liz (lizvegas) I like Lydgate. He definitely lives his life with passion. I'm also a big fan of Mary Garth's character thus far. What does everyone else think of her?

I agree about Lydgate. There's something about him that doesn't ring true steel to me.

I agree totally with Liz Vegas about Mary Garth. She's great!

Kristina (kristina3880) Mary was my favorite in Middlemarch. I already read Middlemarch so everything I want to write might be a spoiler so I will be patient and continue to read everyone's comments.

Sera I think that Mary Garth is great, too.

Glynis (missgmad) | 0 comments I think Lydgate, like Dorothea, is flawed in that he has the potential to pick an unsuitable marriage partner for himself. It seems to me at this stage that Mary Garth and Will Ladislaw are the characters most in touch with their inner selves and less idealistic.

Denise (momtoconnor) I finally finished this section yesterday...
I'm not quite sure what to make of Lydgate. Part of me likes him, but part of me is waiting to see what more of him there is.

I like Fred's character the best out of all of them so far!

And I'm hoping we find out how Dorothea is making out soon!

Becky Welp I fell behind (work! ugh), catch you in the next thread!

Andrea I'm also a huge fan of Mary, I think she is one of those honest characters that tend to shed light on the real aspects of the story.

Like many of you I have also found Lydgate to be a likable character. I do think there may be something that I can't put my finger on yet that may cause me to change my mind...lol

Denise, I'm also interested to get back to Dorothea's story to see what is going on with her. I should also mention I really like her little sister, uncle, and Fred. I think they are all great characters.

Alana (alanasbooks) | 456 comments I will take the opposite track and say so far, I feel like Mary is "too good." I never know what to do with a character like that.

Lydgate make me nervous, but I don't feel like he's a bad fellow. More like there's some growing room.

Fred could go either way. I feel like he could continue down some dangerous roads, or maybe (perhaps because of his love) start to make some good changes. I don't dislike him, but I see some tendencies that remind me of someone I know, and that can work out for good or bad...
