Wanda (joeysnana) | 169 comments I did check out the link. I'm going to have to look for those. Hopefully I can find the audios. Audio books are now my vice to get through work without other distractions! It's also helping me in catching up with the goal I set for myself for 2012.

I start listening to more books in the summer time. We go for lots of walks and spend a lot of time at the pool. Sort of the best of both worlds in my mind. I get to be outside and hear my book. I could never listen at work though

I *love* it!! But I can't really say why because it moves so slowly and I don't really care for the main characters.

It might be because the book suddenly introduce these bizarre things that seem to come out of left field. I've heard people compare it to The Life of Pi. Personally, it reminds a little bit of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo in that the female character, Aomame, is a lot like Lisbeth (personality wise).

Sounds like it may end up being one of those that I just need to start and gradually read over time.

Christine I'm reading The Gargoyle by Andrew Davidson and Cinder (Lunar Chronicles, #1) by Marissa Meyer . I started The Gargoyle first, but it was making me so sad I had to take a break. So far, Cinder is just the change of pace I needed.

Yes, if this wasn't a library book, I'd probably break it up a bit. Although, the story keeps holding my interest.

Christine, I just finished Cinder, and I loved it! It was great to read a sci fi book aimed at YA girls.

I loved Cinder. It was one of those that really caught me by surprise

Christine @ Michelle L. and gin - I've read some VERY mixed reviews about Cinder, but so far I'm really enjoying it. I like the sci-fi spin.

Yeah, I read a lot of conflicting reviews, too. Generally, if a book gets both excellent and poor reviews with very little in the middle, I'm more apt to read it, lol. I guess I like the controversy.

I'm not. I do not like Cassie Palmer at all. The storyline is good, but too many monologues during action scenes. It's weird someone in the middle of a punch and she dives into paragraphs of introspection and history that when the guys punch lands or not, I've forgotten that was happening.

I loved that series, but the first book was really hard to get into. Way too much world building and it introduces way too many people at a time. When I saw you were reading it, first thing I thought was not something Terri will like.

See you know me. The storyline is good, but pages of world building in the middle of an action scene is not good. Add to that Cassie thinks she's can do no wrong and even though she makes mistakes, no one else can. She forgives one person who did something on purpose but not someone who was ordered to do something??? I'm on a rant. Sorry. I just don't like her.

Now that I think about it, I can't really see you liking any of the series.
You don't tend to really like the no humor/little romance dark urban fantasy

Christine I just finished The Gargoyle by Andrew Davidson and I am so glad I did pick it back up and finish it. Another one that made me cry.

Now back to Cinder (Lunar Chronicles, #1) by Marissa Meyer . I'm about halfway through it. I enjoy it, but at times I wish for a little more detail and a little more background information.

The Gargoyle is almost difficult to read at times. I actually set it aside for two days because the beginning was depressing me. But I'm glad I stuck with it.

Really? Oh well, there aren't for everyone. But Nalini Singh has become my favorite PNR author. I love that her females are just as strong (if in a different way) as her males and she to me does a better job balancing the overall story arc with the romance than some.

message 491: by Christine (new)

Christine I also finished Cinder (Lunar Chronicles, #1) by Marissa Meyer last night. I liked it but it didn't really grab me like I hoped it would. I liked the story, I liked Cinder, I liked Kai, but that's all I can say. I liked them. I didn't really feel a strong attachment to any of the characters. And some of the things that happened didn't really make a lot of sense. And why does society take such a dim view of cyborgs? They seem to just be people with fancy prosthetic limbs, so why the sub-human status? That was never explained to my satisfaction. But it started to get a little exciting right at the very end, and then...cliff-hanger! Really?!

I agree there were some holes and it was also kind of predicable. I was just struck by how original of a take on Cinderella it was.

message 493: by Wanda (new)

Wanda (joeysnana) | 169 comments Finished reading Love hurt The killing of Rose (Love hurts, #1) by Holly Hood and Bound By Blood by Cynthia Eden over the weekend. Started reading Bound In Darkness (A Vampire/Werewolf Romance) by Cynthia Eden and listening to Sandman Slim (Sandman Slim, #1) by Richard Kadrey this morning.

Not sure on my thoughts on Love Hurts yet, so I have to let it settle a bit before writing a review.

Christine I started and am almost finished with Married With Zombies (Living with the Dead, #1) by Jesse Petersen . It's had a lot of moments that I think were supposed to be funny, but it's just not working very well for me. Oh well. They can't all be four and five star reads....

Rissa (an M/M kinda Girl!!) (rissa79) started Lover Reborn (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #10) by J.R. Ward this morning!
