A.J. (sunsurfer) | 93 comments The Iliad of Homer translated by Richard Lattimore is available here in regular book form but not ebook. I've figured out that we can add a new edition, however most information would be exactly the same as the regular book version.

If we want to add a new ebook version must we start from scratch with the "add edition" form? Or can we somehow take all the information already included with the regular edition of it and just update page numbers and such?

The ISBN13 for this ebook is 9780226470481 and when I search by that number, it brings me to the regular non-ebook edition of the same book. The page numbers for the ebook are different from the regular edition, there are 645 ebook pages.

Yes. Sounds like the publisher is using the same ISBN for the paperback and ebook editions. Annoying, but not uncommon.

A.J. (sunsurfer) | 93 comments OK, I'll do the form to add it then.

I don't know much about ISBN but in my ebook, it lists two for each of cloth and paper and one for e-book. The ISBN-13 for cloth matches the ISBN-13 for e-book. The ISBN-13 for paper is different, and then cloth and paper each have a different ISBN-10 while e-book doesn't have one at all. This may all be obvious to you but me me it seems like a jumble!

If I'm reading that correctly, somewhere in all that must be a typo (in the ebook, I mean). There is a one-to-one correspondence between ISBN-10 and ISBN-13.

A.J. (sunsurfer) | 93 comments Hm, I'm not sure what you mean by one-to-one correspondence. I'll copy here the ISBNs:

ISBN13: 978-0-226-47048-1 (cloth)
ISBN13: 978-0-226-47049-8 (paper)
ISBN10: 0-226-47048-2 (cloth)
ISBN10: 0-336-47049-0 (paper)
ISBN13: 978-0-226-47048-1 (e-book)

The only number that is listed twice is the ISBN13 for cloth and ebook (and that's the ISBN listed on goodreads for the Hardcover). Does this mean there's a typo there somewhere?

I just tried making the new edition and it won't let me with the ISBN that's already used in the hardcover. I can make it, but without an ISBN, but that doesn't seem right that it won't be able to list its ISBN.

Oh, I misread what you said. I thought there were two editions with the same ISBN13 and different ISBN10s.

You won't be able to create a new edition with the existing ISBN. Sorry, I forgot to mention that.

A.J. (sunsurfer) | 93 comments Thanks, rivka. Hm, I actually went to the publisher's site after your last post and they do indeed list a different ebook ISBN for this book. 9780226470382. Odd. So maybe the listed ISBN inside the ebook is a typo? I guess I'll use the one the publishers list on their site, but I don't think anyone will find it that way since they'd probably search by the ISBN listed in their ebook....

A.J. (sunsurfer) | 93 comments Oh, and PS, another question to keep from starting another thread:

When adding a book and putting in original publication date, how do you put in years BCE? And how would you do "circa"?

message 9: by rivka, Former Moderator (new)

rivka | 45177 comments Mod
900 BCE = -900

There is no way to do circa.

A.J. (sunsurfer) | 93 comments OK, it is created. One more thing though - it didn't give me the option of adding a cover?

Could you add the cover? It's the same one as the hardcover. The link for the new ebook version is http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/13...

The hardcover version with the same cover is ISBN 9780226470481

Done. And combined with the zillion other editions. (YIKES!)

message 13: by A.J. (new)

A.J. (sunsurfer) | 93 comments Thanks! I guess I didn't combine right; I thought it'd be part of the others automatically. I noticed too after it was done that it was all alone.

Yep, zillions of editions! When first searching for this edition even after specifying ebook there were like 130 editions to look through of just ebooks!

A.J. (sunsurfer) | 93 comments Oh dear, things keep going wonky, lol. I just checked the new edition I added and now the description has somehow changed to a short French-language one? I had originally used the same (longer and English) description as on the hardcover edition that has the same cover.

Uploading the image seems to have set the description to default. Weird.

Fixed.

Marisa (moretta) | 127 comments Rivas, it has happened the same to me in other ebook (Pages of sin, ePub edition), so I'm afraid it' s not only in this ebook.

Can you link to logs of other examples, please? If I have a few, I can create a ticket.

Mhollie | 4 comments I haven't been super active lately on Goodreads due to work and I should have not tried to add another edition of a book. 'Cause I screwed it up. I tried to add the Kindle edition for Fireblossom, but I ended up with this Fireblossom instead. I read on the help page that they can be combined, but only a librarian can do it. Any help would be appreciated.

You didn't do anything wrong; new editions always need to be combined.

Done. :)
