So far I'm rather dissapointed. First half of the book is quite interesting but the second half is filled with boring astronomical lectures about planets and comets. I was also unpleasantly surprised that the characters are often reduced to mere stereotypes to a point of caricature, e.g.the English soldiers or the Jew. Sadly, I cannot recommend this book.

So sad to hear that. Have you read any other Jules Verne books? Around the World will be the first one I've read.

I remember reading In Search of the Castaways; or the Children of Captain Grant and Facing the Flag when I was about ten years old. I have only vague recollections of the plot, but I remember liking them quite a lot.
Well,Off On A Comet didn't put me off all Verne's books. I'll read Around the World in Eighty Days with the group and I fully expect it to be better than the other one. It is supposed to be his most famous novel so expectations are high. ;-)
