Amanda | 1 comments Hello fellow PNR readers,
I have been having a problem and was wondering if anyone else was having the same issue. About 2 years ago I became the proud owner of a Sony eReader; the greatest invention EVER! I was able to read books that had been unavailable before because certain books had been out of print.

Because I don't have a credit card I wondered how would I ever be able to buy the ebooks from the Sony ebook store. Then one day I came across prepaid credit cards and thought problem solved. Not so.

I attempted to purchase my first book only to be told that the address that I was submitting didn't match the address registered to the card. So I called customer service to see what I was doing wrong. They told me that they would look into the matter and get back to me. A day later I got a call that everything had been straightened away and to go ahead and use my card.

I once again tried to use my card only to be told that the addresses did not match (Keep in mind that every time I tried to use the card I was charged a $1 transaction fee even though a transaction never occured). I contacted Sony again who then suggested that I contact the bank to see why I couldn’t make the purchase. So I then called the customer service number on the back of the card and the very nice lady had me try several times to order an ebook and when nothing work she suggested I contact Sony’s customer service.

I would love to know if anyone else is having problems using these prepaid cards to purchase ebooks?

Maybe it was the card you were using?

Is there anyway you can just use the card to buy a gift card to the store instead?

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) Call the card's customer service and ask them what "billing zip code" to use (that's usually what merchant accounts check for when they return "invalid address") and insist they refund the $1 transaction fees as their customer service caused. If not resolved, see if you can cash that prepaid card in at store you bought it from; if that fails, use it for in person purchases and see if your bank offers prepaid cards. The advantage is that with brick-and-mortar banks you can hang out with a real person in the bank and your sony ereader and make them get it to work (and banks don't usually do the transaction fees; there's usually an upfront fee for card activation and some have expiration fees like gift cards if you don't use for a year).

Also see about just getting a Sony ereader gift card http://ebookstore.sony.com/gift-center/

Jenny | 114 comments Amanda,
I use pre paid credit cards all the time to buy my e books. I had a problem at first but once I figured it out I haven't had any problems.
I've always had to set up an account where I was buying the book from and when it came time to purchase I will input the card information that they ask for. I only ever had a problem with the address thing once when I was trying to buy off amazon and I was trying to buy an ebook and it wasn't the card it was the fact the ebook was only in the states and I live in Canada and you couldn't get it off the Canadian site. It wasn't until I sent them an email asking why I coulndn't get this book that I discovered that. It was frustrating I remember and pretty much the last time I bought an ebook off Amazon. I search around trying to find another site that has the same book and will buy from there or go straight to the publishers site. I don't know if this is the same reason for your problem. If it continues go back to where you got the card and get it replaced or talk to them.

Good Luck.
