I'm thinking Gabourey Sidibe as Aetch unveiled.

Neal McDonough (basically the character he plays in "Justified") as Sorrento. Can't think of anything more perfect.
It's not that casting this characters are hard, but you cannot avoid to be picky. Other books find it easy to find a dream cast because sometimes they just need a good looking actor or actress to play one. But in this book, no matter how normal or acceptable the characters physical appearances are, we get to embrace their imperfection more. So naturally, we do not want that imperfection hidden on some pretty boys face.Is someone getting me? Haha, but yeah I'm just saying that it's going to be hard to cast this characters, because they shouldn't not be just based on the looks but on the gravity on how they act as their characters. The characters here in this book are BAMF behind technologies, so.
Sigh, good thing it's not being turned into a movie (yet) because it's going to take a lot of brainstorming.

When Aetch is revealed, i kept think Amber Riley. She is on Glee.
Aech would have to be casted twice right ..... Like Who would play the "male avatar" and the "IRL" version :D You could just beef up / make-up or style both Sam and Wade :D teehee Oh and yes, yummyiness and all that Jay Baruchel!
This is confusing?! Wouldn't you need to cast the avatar and the character or with movie special effects could that be achievable with one actor!! Hmmm...

I kept thinking of Zachery Ty Bryan (best known as Brad on Home Improvement) as Aetch's avatar, but I don't think he is a big enough name now... http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0117022/
Neal McDonough would be good for Sorrento for a military look, but I also imagined Sorrento as being sleazy... Will Arnett comes to mind, but he's not quite right for the part http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0004715/?r...
This is one of the first books that I have read and automatically started thinking of actors/how the movie would look!
Sorrento does need to be both sinister and charismatic - even implied compassion. And considering Sorrento makes no pretense in his age or looks for his avatar. - I vote Jeremy Irons :D I'm liking Amber Riley / Zach Ty B - nice "cover" avatar hehe
As for Wade- Love me some JGL but somehow I always pictured Wade as ... taller ... I'm all for Josh Hutcherson or Logan Lerman. It for nothing else than I <3 them!
I like the idea of Will Arnett for Sorrento .. he seems to fit .. I'd love Jermey Irons just because I loves him as Simon in Die Hard with a Vengeance but I don't see him as right here...Why not Wil Wheaton for Wade.. he did do the audio book and seem to fit nicely...

oh o hoh I have a casting!Gabourey Sidibe (precious) as AECH .... i dunno i just thought perfect! and of course the avatar could be someone like Boyd Holbrook.
I mean, if you don't know the book - the reveal that Holbrook is really G. Sidibe is wonderfully different :D. Wow ... then Gabourney or Boyd would have to copy one another mannerisms just right at the big reveal. O.o

While I love me some Wheaton, I don't see him as Wade...however, as Sorrento he is a perfect fit.
I'm going to take this as a "Who They Should Pursue Now" as opposed to "Which actors throughout history would have been perfect." A few of these suggestions would have been great twenty years ago, but the characters in Ready Player One are generally teenagers.I also pictured them as normal enough looking people, but pretty in their own way.
To that end, I pick Mae Whitman as Art3mis (Samantha). She was described as small and rounded and is girl-next-door pretty. Someone you can see being a geeky girl you could hang out with.
I'm having a harder time with Wade, but I think someone like Matthew Lewis (Neville Longbottom) would be great. He is, perhaps, a bit too attractive NOW, but he needs to be the same kind of young man - awkward at first, but with potential. An "ugly ducking", if you will.
Speaking of Wil Wheton, he would actually make a great Sorrento. He can pull off the legitimate geek cred that Sorrento needs, but also be able to level a certain sinister smarm.
Out of curiosity, does anyone picture anyone OTHER than Jeff Bridges for Ogden Morrow? When I read the book, that's just who Ogg was.
I don't know why I always pictured Nicholas Hoult as Wade.

I think Clark Duke (Hot Tub Time Machine, The Office) would be perfect as Wade. I kept picturing him as I read the book. I think Will Arnett as Sorrento would be awesome as well.
It's not just the characters though, there have to be the avatars too.

Ansel Elgort from The Fault in our Stars would be great for Wade. Mae Whitman was born for Art3mis. The rest can be any number of people... But those two, you must get right!
