I've decided I'm doing this. As one of my letters, I'm going to start the long-dormant Round Robin shebang: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/4...

If anyone wants to exchange letters or postcards, let me know!

message 2: by Pat (new)

Pat (patb37) I cannot think of anything to write in letters (or emails or facebook posts). I have no kids to brag about, and no one wants to hear about the books I have read. Maybe I should take up a dangerous sport or hobby.

Stina (stinalee) | 749 comments I will exchange letters/postcards! Hooray!!

message 4: by janine (new)

janine | 7709 comments When I saw this thread I hoped it meant the Round Robin shebang was finally going to happen, and now it is, so yay!

I have my first penpal since a few months and I love sending and receiving letters (just wrote one actually). I'll exchange letters/postcards!

Pat, you and I have a whopping 162 books in common, so I can't imagine I wouldn't want to hear about your books.

In any case, the point is just to have fun with the slower process of letter writing and receiving. If that wouldn't be fun for you, you don't have to do it. Speaking as someone who likes writing letters but is very bad at mailing them, I'm looking to this as an exercise in completing the process.

Kristina, PM me your address and I'll send you mine.

message 6: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments And Janine! I had your address but I might need it again. Yours will be the extra bonus challenge since I'll actually need to go to a post office to mail it.

~Geektastic~ (atroskity) | 3205 comments I'm in. I loved the letter exchange we did last year.

message 9: by Mary (new)

Mary (merrussell) Count me in Pi!

message 10: by Helena (new)

Helena | 1056 comments Me too! I loved writing and receiving letters last year.

message 11: by Cheri (new)

Cheri | 795 comments Oh boy! Count me in. I have had a postcard pen pal for 15 years. I collect European postcards- he collects American. I have some friends that we only communicate via the US mail.

message 12: by Jammies (new)

Jammies Sarah, you don't have to go to the post office to mail an international letter or card, just figure out the correct postage and drop it in the mail!

I'm not sure how a Round Robin would work, but I could send someone a postcard...

P.S. Mail from the US to the Netherlands is $1.05 for a 1 oz. letter.

message 13: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments The round robin is a different game, though I'm sure we'd still welcome new participants.

Anyone who wants a Month of Letters letter from me just send me your address and I'll send you mine.

message 14: by Janice (new)

Janice (jamasc) Count me in. I'll send you my address.

message 15: by janine (new)

janine | 7709 comments I bought some cool postcards today and thought I'd see if I could make it to 24 postcards/letters this month. I you want to receive something from me you can message me your address.

message 16: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Yay!

message 17: by janine (new)

janine | 7709 comments I don't think there's an organizer here, so I say if you want to send letters/postcards, declare so here, and have people send their addresses to you. Or send your address to people who have declared they want to send stuff out.

message 18: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Yes, here's the deal:

If you want to participate in the month of letters challenge, you simply send a piece of mail for every day that the mail runs in February. If you want one from me, send me your address.
I'm mailing to TC friends and real life friends and G+friends. The point is to make someone's day a little brighter with mail, and to revive the art of the letter.
If you want to send to me, my address is PO Box 27558 Towson, MD 21285

I think I confused things by adding the Round Robin in here. That is a totally separate thing. I was just saying that one of my Month of Letters letters will be the one that finally kicks off the Round Robin. If you want to get on THAT list, post in that thread.

message 19: by janine (new)

janine | 7709 comments I don't have a PO box so if you want to exchange mail with me, message me your address, or ask for mine and I'll send you something in return.

message 20: by janine (new)

janine | 7709 comments Barb wrote: "Oh, hell. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be able to do up a letter every day.
I'd love to receive something from either of you ... and you should have my address if you feel like sending something ....."

I'm probably not going to make it to the 24 of the challenge, but if I write 14 letters/postcards I'll be just as happy.

message 21: by Cheri (new)

Cheri | 795 comments Ok. I am ahead of the game. Got my thank you cards for XMas mailed(thank goodness!) Now I have a bunch of 'Hello Kitty' valentine cards to get out to people that would never expect a Hello Kitty VD card and hand written note. Picked up a few postcards for emergency mail. Should make goal with no problem. Bring on your address if you need/want a Hello Kitty VD Card. I got extras.

message 22: by Scout (new)

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 3595 comments Pi, brave woman, expect a happy missive from me this month.

message 23: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia Paschen | 7333 comments I sent a thank you note today, hand-written. That's all I got. Need to go & finish paying bills.

message 24: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments I got a postcard from janine!
I started with people I know in person, but I'll be sending my GR-related ones starting this weekend.

message 25: by janine (new)

janine | 7709 comments Yay! I've only sent out two postcards and one letter so far. Too busy skating and enjoying the weather.

message 29: by janine (new)

janine | 7709 comments I got a letter and card from Cheri yesterday, just in time for valentine's day (well, a day early, but I'm not complaining). Thanks, Cheri!

message 30: by Phil (new)

Phil | 11837 comments I would be able to contact one person from TC. I think she would be able to put me in touch with many others.

message 31: by janine (new)

janine | 7709 comments I have a couple of people's addresses, so I could send some cards/letters.

message 32: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments I have some addresses, some email addresses, and some phone numbers.

I will say that a couple of years ago I was supposed to meet up with two GR friends while I was visiting Winnipeg. I knew the real name of one and not the other. Both were active posters in one of my groups. I went to the bookstore cafe we were supposed to meet at, but neither of them showed. One wrote to apologize that something had come up, but the other never said anything. She also never posted in our group or on Goodreads again. I tried contacting her other friends to find out if she was okay, but nobody knew her real name, and none of them had ever interacted with other privately. She just disappeared. I think something must have happened to her, but I can't be sure.

message 33: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia Paschen | 7333 comments Oh, that is sad, Sarah.

message 34: by janine (new)

janine | 7709 comments I received a card from Sarah today. Thanks for the advice, I won't take my clothes off in a museum.

message 35: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Glad to help.

message 36: by Jammies (new)

Jammies I have phone numbers of at least three TCers, so I could start a ball rolling.

message 37: by Cheri (new)

Cheri | 795 comments I got a lovely card and letter from Janine today! Thanks! (His last name is Jensen from Denmark. I didn't think I would have much luck).
