The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight
question
Narrator

Ok, I gave this book two stars! Have you ever read a story where the Narrator proves to be a complete distraction, and continues to get in the way of a story? The story has no life because the characters in the story never get a chance to SHOW the Reader how they feel because the Narrator's voice smothers the voices of everyone else in the story. Thereby, leaving the Reader stranded because the story is left void of powerful feelings, emotions, and personality. It felt like someone was reading this story to me from a neutral pov.

Hmmm... this might be her style I guess because the other book I read from her was in a third-person perspective which if not handled properly can come off as uncaring. I did enjoy You Are Here by the same author so I think the style can work sometimes.

Exactly! when I was reading this novel I really thought that something is wrong or missing. But I can't seem to point a finger on it. So you're probably right when you said it has something to do with the narration..

Agreed. And I hated the way the book jarred every time she slipped out of past tense back into present. Also, I can't remember a book where the narrator keeps harping on about the same things - how terrible dad and divorce are and claustrophobia. She told us the same things in 507 different ways. Slow....
It seemed like the main character was talking about herself in the third-person
The writing style was bizarre. I didn't like the constant use of the word "she" because it always took me a while to remember who they were referencing.
i really did hate that it was third person. we didnt really get to read about feelings in detail.
