The Sword and Laser discussion

The upcoming stand-alone book set in the same universe as The First Law trilogy now has a synopsis! Via Abercrombie's blog:

Who wants to lay odds that the man with the bloody past has only nine-fingers? And how awesome is it that we get a female protagonist AND the return of Nicomo Cosca! Squeee....

I'm a HUGE western fan, not only that I'm a fantasy/Joe Abercrombie lover too. So he comes along and smashes these two together in one epic book?
This has the potential to be one of my favourite books ever!

I haven't read beyond the First Law trilogy. Does Abercrombie put the same characters in different settings, adapting them to a new style? Or would this be a different looking glass entirely?
