Lauren (laurenjberman) I also have at least 3 and usually 4 going at the same time - one paperback, one audio and one ebook if not two.

message 52: by Gisbelle (new)

Gisbelle "How many books do you read at the same time?"

Normally 2 or 3. One of them has to be an audiobook since I tend to spend time in front of computer a lot, so audiobooks help me catch up on my reading.

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) Thoughts or speculations?

Amazon is buying Goodreads.

Barb | 1873 comments Hmmmm ... does this mean they'll take away the links to purchase/obtain books at sources other than amazon? I love being able to click one link to find out if a particular title is available from my library system!

Can't wait to see if this has any affect on GR Recommendations -- or even on Amazon's "you might be interested in..."

Oh my wow! All the time I spend on GR and I had no clue it listed libraries on there. Do you know how much time I have wasted logging into my libraries to see if they have it. I belong to 4 libraries so its a lot trying to find the right format. I just added 3 of the 4 to my prefrences. Thanks Barb!!!

message 56: by Barb (new)

Barb | 1873 comments Happy to help :) I stumbled upon it one day when I was playing around on GR. "Hmmmm... what does THIS do??" LOL

I went to my library and got Anna Dressed in Blood (Anna, #1) by Kendare Blake . When I got home someone work in there F You. I can't believe someone did that. It just makes me so mad

message 58: by Dawn (Kat N Hat) (new)

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) They wrote in the book? That is just wrong on so many levels.

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) Ok random thought/question about the book of the month read alongs.

Participation has been low for a few months. It is a small group that nominates each month, several people vote but even fewer actually participate in the discussion.

It was brought up that the books are mostly PNR/UF/Scifi. Which is because that is what people vote for.

I was just trolling through other groups and one I am not often on their home page I just noticed does a PNR/UF/Scifi read and a anything but PNR/UF/Scifi read.

We attract all types here at The Lost Challenges. I try hard to make sure the challenges I do would work for any reading genre, not just the ones I prefer.

We currently do a 1st in series and a other BOM. So my question to the masses is this: Would you be more apt to actually participate in a BOM discussion if there was an anything but PNR/UF/Scifi?

I haven't discussed this with the other mods so I am not sure that anything will change or when. Just gathering in-tell so to speak.

I wouldn't mind having a BOM be a non PNR/UF/Sci-fi

message 64: by Dawn (Kat N Hat) (new)

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) August might be a good time to switch it up if there are others interested. There are currently no nominations for the "other read".

Maybe we are just planning to far ahead?

Anyone have any other thoughts about the BOM process? I'd like it to be something more people participate in. But hey, we could all just be challenge junkies and could care less about a BOM, let us know that too, maybe we don't need 2.

message 65: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) I also like the idea of a PNR/UF read and an anything else because I read several different genres.

Oh no! You have come to the right place if you want to challenge yourself to read more. If you need any recommendations or any help with the group or any of our challenges feel free to ask :)

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) Niml is it a burn out kind of loss, just not finding good books you want to read, or a more serious issue. Tell us more and maybe some one can offer a way to get back on the book-wagon.

Actually I don’t know what’s wrong with me, before even when I am sooo busy I always made some time to read.
But now since I started the summer trainings in the Hospital, I lost any kind of motivation to hold a book.

message 76: by Dawn (Kat N Hat) (new)

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) Training in a hospital sounds like some serious stuff. Maybe try something light and fluffy that it doesn't matter if you get through. Or maybe it'll clear up after your training is over.

message 77: by N-mila (new)

N-mila I am a med student so the training will never be over :'(

I'm currently reading "Demain, j'arrête" and it's an amusing story but it's been like two weeks since I started it and I'm just in the 1st pages.

Is there any body who has been through the same situation?

message 78: by Jennifer H (new)

Jennifer H I have that problem occasionally where it just seems like every book I pick up is a learning process at first and it takes forever to get to the exciting stuff. This is when I usually go back to a favorite series I need to catch up on or a cozy mystery.

I looked up your book (I love the cover) and it looks like a quick and easy read. Maybe you should try something with a bit more bite, like a thriller.

message 79: by N-mila (new)

N-mila Okey Thanks Jennifer :)

could you plz suggest me some crime thriller novels?

message 80: by Jennifer H (last edited Jul 30, 2013 12:31PM) (new)

Jennifer H Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn by Gillian Flynn is the first to come to mine. This is one of my all time favorite books. It doesn't get into a bunch of crime talk or legalize.

A few others you might want to check out are:
Naked in Death (In Death, #1) by J.D. Robb by J.D. Robb Odd Thomas (Odd Thomas, #1) by Dean Koontz by Dean Koontz Joyland by Stephen King by Stephen King

If you have any questions about these books or would like to have some more questions feel free to PM me.

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) Lesson of the day: when typing a newsletter SAVE OFTEN and preferably don't do it on a lap top with a weak battery... or perhaps double check to make sure said lap top is plugged in and not risking shutting off after you are about 90% done with the newsletter. Grrrrrr

Not at all, just means you might be going alone. I've been thinking we need a second chance challenge section. What challenge were you thinking about?

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) Anyone have some suggestions of books for an 11 year old boy who reads at a high school level? I need to find some cool books for my nephew for Christmas.

hmmm

Heather ~ Marceline Dawn, my son is in a similar situation(same age and reading level) and reads a lot of the ya dystopian type books like Hunger Games and Divergent series. One of his friends was telling me about how much he enjoys the 39 Clues series the other day.

message 91: by Dawn (Kat N Hat) (new)

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) I'll have to check out the 39 clue series. My nephew did mention Hunger Games as one he wanted. My thought was most YA I've read are girl POV I don't know if 11 year olds would get past that.

Katnis is kinda kick ass though. I really need to read Divergent.

I start my new job at Amazon this Wed at 7:30 Am and I will be working Wed-Sat from 7:30 Am to 6 PM. One bad thing is I can't have anything Amazon sells in the warehouse. So no books Kindle and phone. SO that means I can't read on my break :(

That is a weird rule. Long days but nice to get them knocked off in 4 days.

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) You would think that a company that big would have a break area away from the merchandise.

Dawn (Kat N Hat) (katnhat) I would like to get group members thoughts on our current challenges.

Monthly, quarterly, yearly, themed... too many not enough? Which ones do you not want to see leave? Which ones would you not miss?

Are there kinds of challenges you'd like to see more of?
