Judith Post | 391 comments Love the.... is it a cartoon?...what do you call it? Whatever it is, I like it. Wouldn't want to be the redhead. Looks like death isn't a vacation for him.

awww you didn't get it either? Its about Harry Potter!!!

message 53: by Judith (new)

Judith Post | 391 comments Sorry! I love Harry Potter, and I see the glasses--Harry-- and red hair now. But Harry died, didn't he? And Ron fought on. Or is this one of the Weasley twins? Okay, I'm not feeling brilliant now.

Harry lived and one of the Weasley twins died but you can see em both in the picture cuz us fans know he's alive! Well I do!

Lol Midu! I didn't get it either...not a huge HP fan (don't shoot me :D)

message 56: by Judith (new)

Judith Post | 391 comments You must have really, really liked the Weasley twin to bring him back alive again like Harry. I hated it when he died too. The twins were a package deal, so good together. Glad he's back and Harry's there to meet him. (You're not going to get hooked on zombies soon, are you?)

My 17-year-old is Obsessed with Zombies...with a capital "O".

message 58: by Judith (new)

Judith Post | 391 comments Zombies still make me squeamish. I watched Grindhouse with my daughter and the dark humor helped, but they're not my thing. Our boys are more into vampires--Blade and Underworld. But 28 Days of Night freaked me a little.

Judith Post | 391 comments I did some copy editing for a friend and got a free chapbook of Edward Bryant's A Sad Last Love At the Diner of the Damned to edit. Zombies. Great writing, great artwork, but zombies. Maybe I have trouble with them because I love to cook, love food, but not people eating people. Have trouble with ghouls too. Ich.

I don't normally like watching it, but I don't mind reading it. The horror genre was my first love (Stephen King) and is still my favorite.

message 65: by Judith (new)

Judith Post | 391 comments You can't beat Stephen King. I used to read Dean Koontz too. He had a different style, and I liked them both. Haven't read either for a long time.

message 66: by Sheri, Bookworm (new)

Sheri | 6873 comments Mod
Koontz is my second fave :)

message 67: by Judith (new)

Judith Post | 391 comments There were two mysteries that went really dark and almost had a horror feel to them. The Alienist by Caleb Carr. And Fever Season by Barbara Hambly. The monsters were human in those, and pretty scary.

I've never heard of Carr...I'll have to look into his books

Loved IT...but not the movie. Too creepy.

And what would Jane Austen's hero have packed for the weekend? Travel in the second half of the Eighteenth Century.

description

"it appears to start off with shirts; first a couple of night shirts, then what appears to be two "neck shirts" including a "new fine plain" one. He packed two Ruffles plus "One fine Holland Ditto" as well as three pairs of silk stockings. One piece of gauze, three pairs worsted (stockings, presumably) went into the case along with a couple of night caps made of "linnen".

"W. shoes" may have referred to walking shoes but I cannot be sure and I have been unable to decipher the following line apart from seeing that it involved "one Blue Ditto and One Silk"

He needed a cloth coat and waistcoat (he called it "cloath") as well as a silk waistcoat and a white dining waistcoat. Silk breeches and five stocks were packed as well as "muffatees". Sadly I have no record showing what these were made from - they were fingerless gloves or wrist bands, often knitted but sometimes made of elasticated strips of leather, or even fancy ones made of peacock feathers.

"The actual cost of travel was considerable. Richard shows a coach journey from Bourton to Evesham of 41 miles costing over one pound eleven shillings."

description

"dinner at four shillings and ten pence (equivalent to a buying power of perhaps $22 today); the waiter at sixpence (a couple of dollars); the horsler i.e. ostler a shilling (four dollars); and turnpikes one shilling and sixpence (six dollars). The actual coach fare came to a guinea (getting on for a hundred dollars nowadays)"

I loved this! I was a Georgette Heyer addict for years. Still like a Regency now and then. And the rich were RICH. And fashion was everything.

message 78: by Judith (new)

Judith Post | 391 comments I watched a LOT of Powerpuff girls when the boys were little, and I'm a big Norse gods fan--Thor's more brawn and hammer. What a combination! Only you!

It's a good thing everyone had servants in Jane Austen's day or no one could pack all the stuff they did. A woman was never seen twice in the same gown when she came out (if I remember right).
