McKenzie | 57 comments I know you guys probably get tired of these kinds of topics but I'm wanting to wisely invest in a new series that has things I enjoy in it.

I'm looking for a great paranormal series that uses the whole fated mates type thing.... like Kresley Cole's IAD series, Lora Leigh's Breeds, and Christine Warren's The Others, and Nalini Singh's Psy/Changling series.

I kinda have a thing for the whole dominant male thing....A cool female main lead is great for me, but I think it's sexy when her mate tries to dominate her. I'm sure some of you agree with me!

So....can any of you recommend me a series that has these things that you enjoyed?

Thanks in advance. :)

Try the Sentinel Wars Series by Shannon K Butcher...it is a cross between the Ward's BDB, Showalters' LOU & Feehan's Dark Series...

It is about a group of Immortal Domineering Warriors who are mated to one special woman out there and they know the second they touch her if she is a match. Her willingness to bond with them saves their life...these guys are at their wits end to find that one to save them from going crazy and dying a horrible death. But the catch is she has to want to bond with them...and they are usually very over powering men who make you crazy....."Do this, Do that, Your Mine, No, I won't go away!"

Anyway, they go on to work in tandem as a couple fighting evil demons who wish to take over earth and feed off humans. These warriors are assisted by Vampires who have their own agenda in this whole war. It is a great series, very serious with some humor. Each book is a separate PNR but they are connected and many of the story lines run through out the series.

Burning Alive (Sentinel Wars, #1) by Shannon K. Butcher Finding the Lost (Sentinel Wars, #2) by Shannon K. Butcher Running Scared (Sentinel Wars, #3) by Shannon K. Butcher On the Hunt (Includes Sentinel Wars #3.5, Nightkeepers #5.5, Gods of Midnight, #4.5) by Gena Showalter Living Nightmare (Sentinel Wars, #4) by Shannon K. Butcher Blood Hunt (Sentinel Wars, #5) by Shannon K. Butcher Bound by Vengeance (Sentinel Wars, #5.5) by Shannon K. Butcher Dying Wish (Sentinal Wars, #6) by Shannon K. Butcher

Terry (Ter05 TwiMoms/ MundieMoms) (ter05) | 608 comments A Discovery of Witches (All Souls Trilogy, #1) by Deborah Harkness first book of the series but the next one is out in July. They are fated to be together, he is a 1500 year old vampire who is domineering but in a way that would be natural for the situation. My best read of 2011.

Lisa M (lamessegee) | 248 comments I second the Sentinel Wars series. It's excellent. You also might want to try:
Midnight Breed by Lara Adrian Starts with Kiss of Midnight (Midnight Breed, #1) by Lara Adrian
World of Ascension by Caris Roane Starts with Ascension (The World of Ascension #1) by Caris Roane

Kris (marketing_gurl) | 23 comments Loving this series. The first book is free, I think so its definitely worth picking up. Eternal Eden (Eden Trilogy, #1) by Nicole Williams There are a few dominant "over-protective" males...super hot! But, its YA and very clean.

For a more 'grown up' series, I'd suggest either:

Destiny Divided (Shadows of Destiny, #1) by Leia Shaw

or

The Mating (Law of the Lycans, #1) by Nicky Charles

or

The Heat (The Big Bad Wolf, #1) by Heather Killough-Walden

Michelle(Chelle) aka Nightshade - Cake Whisperer (michmag) Have you read the Demonica series by Larissa Ione? This would meet your requirements. Pleasure Unbound (Demonica, #1) by Larissa Ione .

Pleasure Unbound is the first book which was good but the books just get better and better. If I remember coorectly there are 5 maybe 6 and then a spin-off series.

Christine | 1127 comments I agree with the recommendation for Shannon K. Butcher's Sentinel Wars.

Also, Deborah Cooke's Dragonfire series and Pamela Palmer's Feral Warriors.

And there is the ever popular Black Dagger Brotherhood by JR Ward.

McKenzie | 57 comments Hey again guys!

I have read Ward's BDB and The Feral Warriors and loved them. I felt they didn't have the whole fated mates thing down like Kresley Cole and others mentioned above did. They were still great, though. I was just looking for something that had the theme I wanted put in it more strongly.

I have heard lots of good things about the Midnight Breeds series. How strongly to they emphasize what I am looking for?

I'd love to try Feehan's series but they are huge and many books are hard to find. I'm not using a kindle like many are. I read a lot at work and we aren't allowed to take electronic gadgets with us. Plus, I still prefer paper books. :P
Feehan has books that interest me greatly. I'd love to get into them sometime if I could but it would be an investment for sure. I am sure they are best read from the beginning, right?

When Borders was having their huge closeout sale I got like....the first seven or so books in Angela Knight's Mageverse series. I never buy that many at one whack but they were so cheap I couldn't resist and they had been recommended to me by someone who has the same taste in PR I do. I couldn't even get past the first book. And because of that, I feel like I shouldn't start the second one in the series. I almost thought about just selling them on Ebay. Would the story still make sense if I just skip the first book and go to the second? I heard a lot of people didn't like the first book. How necessary is it to the storyline?

Caris Roane's books have interested me for some time. The covers are gorgeous. I'm going to make a note to check into that one.

BUT....the Sentinels Wars Series....that looks like JUST what the doctor ordered. Yep, that's what I'm going to try for next. :)

Feel free to keep the recs coming. I write them down for future reference when I'm ready to start something new. Thanks again, guys!

To answer some of your questions, to the best of my knowledge:

As far as Midnight Breed, the heroes each have a "Breedmate," which is a special, psychic human woman. Is there one and only one lifelong Breedmate out there for each Breed? I'm not sure about that, but they certainly act that way. I don't think you'd be disappointed. There is one book in the series that's not about a Breedmate, but that's a unique situation.

I've only read some of Feehan's Dark series, but from what I've read it's best to start at the beginning and read them in order.

If you didn't like Master of the Night, go ahead and try Master of the Moon. What can it hurt? One is a vampire book, and the other is a werewolf book.

As far as fated one woman/one man, the Ascension series definitely has that. The H/h literally can't resist each other.

Sentinel Wars: Be sure to read the first two books before you decide if you like the series. It seems as if people like one or the other better. I was hooked with Burning Alive, though.

I don't know if you're into a lighter series, but Argeneau Vampires definitely has a fated mate theme. It starts with A Quick Bite (Argeneau, #1) by Lynsay Sands

More series with the fated mate theme:
Wing Slayer Hunters by Jennifer Lyon
Blood Magic (Wing Slayer Hunters, #1) by Jennifer Lyon Soul Magic (Wing Slayer Hunters, #2) by Jennifer Lyon Night Magic (Wing Slayer Hunters #3) by Jennifer Lyon Sinful Magic (Wing Slayer Hunters, #4) by Jennifer Lyon
Mark of the Vampire by Laura Wright
Eternal Hunger (Mark of the Vampire #1) by Laura Wright Eternal Kiss (Mark of the Vampire, #2) by Laura Wright Eternal Captive (Mark of the Vampire, #3) by Laura Wright

Happy reading!

Stormwalker is the first book in a series that I absolutely adore. The main character is a tough chickie, but her boyfriend Mick is even tougher (and sexier). He's dominant, but not overly so... and the sex is hot ;)

I am currently reading this series First Grave on the Right (Charley Davidson, #1) by Darynda Jones Second Grave on the Left (Charley Davidson, #2) by Darynda Jones Third Grave Dead Ahead (Charley Davidson #3) by Darynda Jones and I love them. It definitely has the fated mate thing going on and a drool worthy Alpa Hero and really cool heroine.

Also, I don't know if you've read this series but it's excellent and has the fated mates thing too. A Quick Bite (Argeneau, #1) by Lynsay Sands Love Bites (Argeneau, #2) by Lynsay Sands Single White Vampire (Argeneau, #3) by Lynsay Sands Tall, Dark & Hungry (Argeneau, #4) by Lynsay Sands Bite Me If You Can (Argeneau, #6) by Lynsay Sands Vampires Are Forever (Argeneau, #8) by Lynsay Sands Vampire, Interrupted (Argeneau, #9) by Lynsay Sands The Accidental Vampire (Argeneau, #7) by Lynsay Sands

Another "fated mate" series is Katie MacAlister's "Dark Ones" series, of which A Girl's Guide to Vampires is the first book. Lots of humour in this series.

Komal | 162 comments Though these couples aren't always mated, the intensity and the type of romance is similar to IAD . It's the Lords of the Underworld series by Gena Showalter. The first book is The Darkest Night (Lords of the Underworld, #1) by Gena Showalter , though it's not the best in the series. The series as a whole picks up at book two which is amazing [at least in my opinion :)]!
Also, agree with P.A. The Charley Davidson books are hilarious. The romance is a bit different from what your looking for, but great in it's own right.
Hope you find what your looking for :)

message 17: by Kryptonite (new)

Kryptonite (sg34) | 96 comments Lara Adrian's Breed Series... although they're not fated couples
G.A. Aiken's Dragonkin Series- again not fated
Anya Bast's Dark Magick Series- not fated and not her Elemental Witches... don't like that one
Deborah Cooke's Dragonfire Series
Alyssa Day's Atlantis Series

Okay this is about 1 couple and not fated but it's awesome: Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress Series with Cat & Bones

Christine Feehan's Dark Series is awesome
She also has the Ghostwalker Series & Leopard Series but they're not fated couples

Larissa Ione's Demonica Series, although not fated couples, is awesome

Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark-Hunter Series- not fated but great

Katie MacAlister's Dark Series, Aisling Grey Series, & Light Dragon Series

Karen Marie Moning's Highlander Series- but not fated couples

Gotta read Gena Showalter's Lord of the Underworld & Atlantis Series- neither are fated couples

Also great author: Nalini Singh and her Phy-Changeling Series
Although her Guild Hunter Series is about 1 couple- it's great. I love her writing.
And I'm not into a series with the same couple but Guild Hunter and Night Huntress by Jeaniene Frost are worth it.

J.R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood Series- not fated couples

Ilona Andrews's Edge Series is great but not fated couples

Thanks everyone again :)

Shannon (Savhage Temptrest) (savhagetemptress) | 330 comments I agree with most of the recommendations and I have a couple of suggestions:

Although she is mostly electronic books, most of these books are in print now and have the dominant males and fated loves!

Dana Marie Bell's Halle Pumas Series
Mating Games by Dana Marie Bell - Has books 1-3
Animal Attraction (Halle Pumas, #4 & #5) by Dana Marie Bell - Has boos 4-5

Jacquelyn Franks Shadowdweller Series - Highly erotic and dominant males. Some of the women can be head-strong but not enough to overpower the authoritative males for the most part.

Ecstasy (Shadowdwellers, #1) by Jacquelyn Frank Rapture (Shadowdwellers, #2) by Jacquelyn Frank Pleasure (Shadowdwellers, #3) by Jacquelyn Frank

You forgot Bear Necessities in the Halle Puma series Shannon. And Finding Forgiveness, also in that series (altho this one has a fated m/m mate couple) I have to admit that I did enjoy having the gay couple being fated mates. My favourite cousin was gay--and I swear he had a "fated mate" because when his partner was killed in a car accident, George didn't last but another 18 months afterwards. And I think the only reason he lasted that long was because they had adopted a baby just before his partner was killed.

It's about a coven of innocent-ish witches being hunted by the dark, and protected by these Watchers looking for the one witch who is destined to be their mate.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 461 comments The GhostWalker series is a twist on the fated mate concept. A mad scientist has experimented on the male soldiers and orphaned girls and paired them with pheromones so he can produce a second generation of super-soldiers. The heroes are pretty dominant and possessive and don't like the idea of the heroines with other men. This series got me hooked on reading Feehan. I've gone on to read her other books.

The Leopard series has a variation on the fated mate theme in that the heroine goes through a heat cycle and the H/h recognize each other as reincarnated mates throughout the ages. It's a bit on the more subtle side compared to some of the "Mine" stories, but the heroes are very dominant/possessive. You'd probably especially enjoy Burning Wild.
