THE SOUTHERN LITERARY TRAIL connects southern places in Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi that inspired great American writers to create classic fiction and plays. The inspiration continues. Every two years, the Trail's organizers host Trailfest, the only tri-state literary festival in the United States with free events, theatrical performances and heritage tours. Here is the website for those interested. I've hit a number of places on the trail. Each has been worthy of a return visit. http://http://www.southernliterarytra...

Have you made any stops along the trail? If so, tell us about your experiences there.

Jenny (Reading Envy) (readingenvy) | 178 comments There is also a North Carolina version!

Mike, I'm headed to Alabama from SC in the fall, so maybe I'll hit a spot or two going or coming. I don't live far from the Carl Sandburg home, which is one of my summer goals.

Ah, is the Woodfield Inn still operating? I love Hendersonville and Flat Rock.

Ah, yes. That WAS the Inn. Quite special. I hope the new owners didn't change too much. I definitely hope they kept the chefs.

Mike

Jenny (Reading Envy) (readingenvy) | 178 comments I hiked around the Carl Sandburg home in Flat Rock, NC today, and took the house tour too. It was hot!!!

Here is a link to the album of photos, as well as a few pictures of literary things in the area (bookstores, pie shop).

Heather Fineisen I love it there. I especially like that there are still page markers in his books. It is so calm there, minus the goats!

By the time I got out of the house, I was so hot I didn't bother visiting the goats. I bet they're hot too!

Jessie J (subseti) | 295 comments I went to Chicago recently and passed by Robert Penn Warren's birthplace in Kentucky; on a tight schedule, so I didn't get to stop.
