Kate Z (kgordon3) | 144 comments I read The House of Mirth as a Buddy Read for this challenge. Given that I had a child's birthday, a trip to Disneyland and a migraine all during this week I was just glad to get this one book completed!

I finished it yesterday, February 10th. Link to my review here:

http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...

and to our Buddy Reads discussion thread here:

http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/7...

The only badge this qualifies for is the Buddy Buddy one but that's okay by me!

Cheryl (cherylllr) If I were less flakey, I could have gotten the Heard it All badge by listening to a long library book during exercise. Oh well.

I don't know if fun is the right word, but I feel satisfied and proud, and wiser/ more enlightened. And eight books lighter. (Two were library books.)

Wilbur:
Swallows and Amazons 352 pp,
The Glass Slipper 224 pp.

Godfather:
The Best of Eric Frank Russell 336 pp
Winesburg, Ohio - http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/80... 180 pp
Time for the Stars http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/93... 188 pp

Buddy Buddy:
The Martian Chronicles 222 pp, with Anna Marie

Time Traveler:
The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/15... 220 pp, pub. 1790
The Water Babies 256 pp, pub. 1863
The 13 Clocks 124 pp, pub. 1950

One for the Ages:
Tao Te Ching 162 pp, pub. 6th century BC

Thanks Judy.

I did indeed finish .Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?. Since I had another day, I also read The Turn of the Screw. This won't qualify for any additional badges, but I was able to move another Classic from my TBR shelf.

Great Toppler!!!

Cheryl, You need to count the Buddy Read of The Water Babies with Debra and I as well!

message 7: by Mikki (last edited Feb 11, 2012 05:51PM) (new)

Mikki Steinbeck Rules!

Okay, finished two Buddy Reads with Judy:

Of Mice and Men 107 pages read 2/5/12 and
Travels With Charley: In Search of America 214 pages read 2/6/12 - 2/10/12

Both were fantastic reads, but my favorite was definitely the travelogue, Travels With Charley: In Search of America. Steinbeck was in top form mixing environmental and social issues along with his spectacular wit and humor.

Thanks Judy, it's always great reading with you!

message 8: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) That's true, Almeta, I did get actually two Buddy Buddies, if we count multiples. I guess, in a way, I got more than one Godfather, too.

But I wanted unique books for each badge, so that's how I counted them. It's just the way I roll. ;)

Congrats Mikki, and everyone!

message 11: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59930 comments I did it! I finished reading the last book at 7:00 and still had time to go to my son's and watch Breaking Dawn with my granddaughter.

I earned the godfather award with:

Trent's Last Case: The Woman in Black - eBook edition, 232 pages, read from Feb 5 - 9th.

Contempt - Kindle edition, 272 pages, read from Feb 9 - 11th.

Yeah!

Only downside is that I didn't remove any books from my physical bookshelves. Next time!

Karendenice Judy, I'm so sorry that I didn't get a chance to post this last night. I only had time to read one book but it was so worth it! Thanks so much for this challenge! I don't know when I would have got around to reading this book otherwise. It's my #1 favorite and I gave it 5 stars!

I feel very virtuous reading classics. Having a kindle has definetly made me read more classics, because they are free.
