Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Hi honey, I've got a Blake Crouch, all that publicity for him I'll have to move it up my list. I'm quiet because I'm trying to catch up on my TBR books!

Thea Atkinson (theaatkinson) | 53 comments Yeah, Patti, I actually think I'm a new fan. Do you have a recommendations?

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I've not read much of his stuff yet, sorry.

I've read his short story '69 and his short story in a collection called Serial.

Jane (beetlejane) | 82 comments An Apple For Zoë was free, I think a couple of months ago, anyway really exciting book. Murders with a twist of Paranormal. It does end on a cliff hanger, still don't know who did what. Also the title?? Doesn't really refer to anyhting in the book. Great read though!

message 57: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine | 575 comments I've just finished SANDMANgot it free last week, and because of the good reviews put it to the top of my pile,i wasn't dissapointed,an excellent read.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12604 comments I've just finished Are You Positive - would recommend that and the prequel to it, which I have already mentioned here.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I really liked The Meyersco Helix fast paced novel, and the plot was different to the run of the mill thrillers.

message 60: by Sally (new)

Sally (sallybell) Okay, I admit that I do know the author of this book, but I'm recommending it because her stories are awesome regardless of that fact! The Edge of the Map by Jax Goss is a collection of very short stories and they're pretty much all excellent :) It's a you-set-the-price book on Smashwords, so you can donate a little if you feel like it, or you can read for free :)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Ahhh. Now if we feel reticent about recommending books by authors that we know, it defeats the purpose of our group.
Our group is meant to be a sharing between readers and writers.
I, personally, don't think there such a thing as a 'just a writer'. Certainly there is a 'just a reader' though. That is what I am.

Anyway...my point is. Don't ever feel you shouldn't recommend a book you have enjoyed. Ever. For any reason.

message 62: by Sally (new)

Sally (sallybell) READ THE BOOK MY FRIEND WROTE IT IS AWESOME READ IT!

;)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Lmao! That's how it's done!

message 64: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Versini (lorraineversini) | 8438 comments I was looking for French reader websites for Vernon earlier, came across that one where you can only put a link to a book if you've written it... Dont really understand ow that works... Writer is obviously allowed to promote his/her book(s) but readers can't make recommendations... Odd

message 65: by Maureen (Mews) (new)

Maureen (Mews) (mews) | 711 comments This short story was a recent freebie. I read it yesterday and enjoyed it. It's a "cosy" type mystery. A wee bit too cosy for me but nevertheless, I know many in our group would like it and it was very well written.

The Misses Moffet Mend a Marriage: A Victorian San Francisco Story

message 66: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm reading this biography at the mo which was a freebie some time ago - it will suit those who enjoy animal stories.

Shelley The Lifeboat Labrador

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I've not read that one yet, Maureen but there was another short story by the same author that as worth a read.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12604 comments I finished While the Savage Sleeps by Andrew Kaufman yesterday, well recommended and worth the £1.97 it is now.

Pat () | -245 comments First book in a box set The Ultimate Thriller Box set called Origin by J.A. Konrath Couldn't put it down really enjoyed it. It's a Technothriller The next one is Desert Places by Blake Crouch. Just starting it. Will come back and say if it is as good.

message 70: by Kath (new)

Kath | 1233 comments One by our very own Goodreads Author Jamie Sinclair - Chick-Lit - or Contemporary Romance as I believe the genre is now called!

message 71: by Karina (new)

Karina Kantas I've just finished reading Peter and the Vampires. It's a novel of four novellas. Adventure fantasy stories about Peter, his best friend Dill, and Peter's grandfather. There's swamp monsters, vampires, trolls, and dead men in the garden.

I would put this book at the top of my free book kindle list. It's a light, enjoyable read which will have you laughing, cringing and crying.

I most heartily second this!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12604 comments I've just finished A Physician's Plight, although a confusing read, I would recommend it.

message 78: by Lindsay (new)

Lindsay (kiwi365) | 3672 comments If you are in to fantasy give The Book of Deacon by Joseph Lallo a try. It is a really good trilogy.
Also i got London, the Doggy and Me by Rosen Trevithick for free and it was really good.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Thanks Lindsay!

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I've just finished Secrets From The Dust It was a fascinating story. I didn't read the blurb beforehand and I was drawn into the story completely. A really good read.

message 81: by Philip (sarah) (new)

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments Thanks Lynne. I think I have that one.

Actually, this was a smashwords book that I paid half price for - but David has offered it free on smashwords. I've just searched the link and it's still free!

A Fine Woman by David George Richards
http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/...

It's a historical novella set during and just after world war II which I thoroughly enjoyed and can really recommend!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Finished this one yesterday.

Thanks Patti - I'll bump it up my TBR, although it has strong competition from "our" authors!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12604 comments I read The Virgin Student this week and would thoroughly recommend it.

message 86: by Steven (new)

Steven Stickler | 18 comments I was probably one of the few in this group that had not read Carl Ashmore. So, grabbed this when it was free and really enjoying it (mine has a different cover, though):

The Time Hunters

message 87: by [deleted user] (new)

I've just finished reading this which was free some time ago - Eden. I enjoyed it, sci fi romance - a sort of beauty and the beast for grown-ups.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12604 comments I've nearly finished A Dog Named Slugger and would heartily recommend it.

message 89: by Kath (last edited Apr 25, 2012 12:22PM) (new)

Kath | 1233 comments I have two - and they are both by one of our authors - the lovely Rosen :)

I actually paid for the first one but it has been free and it is ace...

Straight Out of University gave me so many memory links from my own life that I simply has a blast reading it

The other one I did get free and was equally as good albeit completely different.

Footprints was a complete change in both genre and to a certain extent style, although it retained the same sort of language and ease of reading. It is more cerebral than SOOU and I found myself thinking ahead and trying to guess the ending and then talking myself in and out of it as the book progressed.

Both easy and quick reads and, for me anyway, a pleasant change from the usual action/adventure/crime books that I normally choose to read.

Rosen Trevithick (rosentrevithick) | 2272 comments Thanks Kath. Both those titles will be on promotion again in the future, (not that they're expensive at full price!)

Catalina (katgabriella) | 169 comments I have read a free one from Amazon a while ago and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Out of Time

message 92: by [deleted user] (new)

I second the recommendation for A Dog Named Slugger. I'm reading it at the mo and it's a lovely story. It's also quite expensive to buy at over £6! Thankfully, I did download it when it was free.

Kath | 1233 comments Lorraine mentioned this one yesterday but I read it and also recommend it... and it's still free, so there is still time to snaffle it up :)

I got The Last English Village when it was free and finished reading it today. I loved it. It's quite a charming tale, a cosy mystery (but not a crime mystery) and with gentle humour. It's the author's first novel so I hope that he writes some more.
