Patrick (patrick_reads) | 5 comments Hey Guys!

I'm Patrick and I'm a new member of this group. Well obviously I'm a very avid reader and I consume books like I consume milk daily. Another obvious thing is that I'm gay! :D

So here's the thing I recently finished reading 'The Vast Fields of Ordinary' and I admit that it was beautifully written by Nick Burd but I'm just horrified by the ending of the book. I mean I'm a type of person who loves happy endings and hates tragic and sad ones.

I would just like to ask for recommendations on what gay book to read next? What guy to guy book to read next that at least ends in a happy note or that ends happily? I just feel lost after 'The Vast Fields of Ordinary'...

So please do help me out. Thanks in advance guys :D

Ralph Gallagher | 122 comments I would highly recommend What They Always Tell Us. I also recommend Intervention and The Benefit of Ductwork by our very own, Kira Harp. (Actually, all of the Helping Hands books are great, but I'm a bit biased. =P)

If you like SFF, I'd recommend Luck in the Shadows and the rest of the Nightrunner books.

Kaje Harper | 17369 comments How YA do you want it to be? All of Alex Sanchez books are readable and positive endings. I also like all of Robin Reardon's (although I have not yet read her latest.) Also consider Wrestling with Desire. If you like Fantasy, Swordspoint is excellent and straddles the YA/Adult line in topics but is not explicit.

I loved "Outtakes" too, but the ending is not a HFN/HEA on that one really. Mixed positive with some negative I guess.

David Levithan writes a little on the utopian side of positive (eg. the first gay president of the United States :), but is great also.

Ralph was kind to mention my short stories (Kira Harp is my YA pen name) but neither one has much romance, just gay MC's. If you want romance in that line, read Pride and Joy by Karen Lee which is a YA M/M romantic short story.

Patrick (patrick_reads) | 5 comments Thanks for all your suggestions. Some M/M or LGBT books I've read so far are the Russel Middlebrook series by Brent Hartinger and The Vast Fields of Ordinary. I'm just new to this stuff because I used to read many fantasy fictions before and the like. Like HP, Percy Jackson, Hush Hush etc. So I'm really searching for YA M/M titles and authors:D

BTW, I liked the Russel Middlebrook series but sometimes I feel that it can be superficial at some portions of it. :D

Kaje Harper | 17369 comments I think the Hartingers were aimed at a slightly younger YA audience than some others (I liked The Order of the Poison Oak better than the first one, although both were good.)

I second Luck in the Shadows if you like fantasy, and also The Last Herald-Mage but they are fantasy not contemporary.

Another good choice might be Vintage: A Ghost Story -it's paranormal but contemporary and very well written, with the beginning of a romance and a positive ending. Or A Really Nice Prom Mess which is contemporary.

Byron (byft) Patrick, are you looking for paperback availability or ebook??? O_o

Also I second the suggestion of Magic's Pawn and the two books after it.. It's a tear jerker, but H.E.A. - but as far as I know it's ONLY paperback... I think with this series you don't need to be a fantasy fan, but if you want true love/romance then this series will hit home.. (I would guestimate that I've read them about 20 times over the years, and I still cry like a baby!)

Lissa (parisbvamp) | 64 comments Exiled to Iowa. Send Help. And Couture by Chris O'Guinn was great, and pretty positive. Good message, great characters. :)

Randy Barton | 1 comments Another great gay read would be ''suicide notes'' by Michael Thomas Ford.

message 16: by Kaje (new)

Kaje Harper | 17369 comments Yes, not really a romance but a great book about coming out and coming of age: Suicide Notes (some on-page sex) I really liked this one too.

message 17: by Brooke (new)

Brooke For romance, you can't beat With or Without You by Brian Fauley, or Don't Let Me Go by J.H. Trumble. You like paranormal so I would recommend Michael Griffo's Unnatural series. Hot MM romance, too:)
Saints of Ugustine by P.E. Ryan, Outtakes if a Walking Mistake by Anthony Paul, Love Drugged by James Klise, and anything by Steve Kluger are all uplifting yet not necessarily romance (but do contain some romantic plot points with gay characters).
Lastly, I highly recommend the author Wade Kelly...can't remember the book name but I think it's the most emotional love story. Beware: it's bittersweet, not necessarily HEA but def worth checking out.
Hope this helps!

Brooke When Love is Not Enough by Wade Kelly... Looked it up:)
