Who has read Cassandra Clare's "Mortal Instruments" series, or her "Infernal Devices" series?

Well, Shadowhunters are descendant of Angel blood, and they hunt demons. Downworlders are those formed from demon blood, (Faeries, Vampires, Werewolves, Warlocks, etc.) and are kept in line by the Shadowhunters.

Shadowhunters have institutes set in an church, demons and Downworlders cannot enter without permission of a Shadowhunter.

Idris is the capitol city of the Shadowhunters, where the Clave (A council of Shadowhunters who decide every little thing) is located.

The Enclave is the group of Shadowhunters that work together in their regional area, (i.e. Brooklyn, New York; London, England; Shanghai, China; etc.)

Steles are the magical rune-making devices Shadowhunters use to increase their power. They have longer stamina, stronger muscles, faster running abilities, and runes can be drawn on their skin permanent or temporary. Healing runes, memorization runes, tracking runes, etc.

Shadowhunters come from pure bred families. If they mix with humans, they are stripped of their Shadowhunterness and become mortal. If they mix with demons...that's weird and wrong. If they mix with downworlders, the Shadowhunterness is lost and bla bla bla.

Uh...

They live under the mundanes (mortal humans) and try not to attract any attention, but there are glammors everywhere that keep humans oblivious to everything around them.

Warlocks have one oddity about them that makes them different from humans, and that may be things like a clawed hand, cat eyes, a tail, yellow skin, etc etc. They are the ones who have the power to summon demons, they cast spells, they make potions, etc. etc.

Vampires and werewolves are self-explanatory.

Faeries are more evil. They are fair with beauty, but they still have humanoid forms, though more skinny and elongated and taller than normal humans, and they have the power to mess with emotions. They love to watch tragic romances, and anything that has drama or a bad ending.

Demons can be summoned, killed, demons sometimes are released by others and let loose in the world, that's why there are Shadowhunters. Etc. Etc.

Name: Adelee Oakdale

Appearance: Long golden hair that curls and falls gracefully down to her waist. A small, sturdy frame with hidden muscle underneath smooth pale skin. She has bright green eyes and naturally rosy cheeks and lips. She wears jeans and tee shirts, on occasion she wears nicer things, but she's always ready for a fight.

Personality: Sweet and sour, snappy, yet gentle, her moods are wild and universal, often times she just can't decide how she feels. She's brutal sometimes, often she's reckless. She finds herself in a lot of trouble as well.

Background: Her parents were killed in a battle with seven other Shadowhunters against a demon. She was left at the institute as a little girl, and when her parents never came back, the head of the institute decided to take her in and she had been there training ever since.

Do I need to read this series first?

Eh. I guess so...though not really. I gave you all you really need to know.

Just join. You don't need to ask if it's still happening. These are all new roleplays or roleplays that are still going. I erased the dead ones.

That's the thing though, you're not exercising your new characters, you're just re-functioning already made characters. It wouldn't be fun that way.

Um...I need to consult Falls' judgment on using Clare's characters. Use your original characters however you want, though remember, if you're creative, you don't need a tragedy to introduce a girl character.

If she's a Shadowhunter, she could be in the middle of fighting a demon, or you could introduce her first coming to the institute, or you could do so many things.

737 they aren't going to make a second season and i am very disappointed... i don't get to see his wonderful lovestruck character or figure out how chloe spends the rest of her 7 lives... dangit!!!

it really wasn't :) i mean chloe annoyed me from time to time... actually i think i was more interested in the side characters most of the time like Alek and his sister(who i really think shouldn't have died) and her friends were kind of fun as well :P they were dorky quirky, but cute. but yes, i loved Alek! I hope they put him in another show or he finds somewhere to act :/

my too :) i thought she was a lot more dynamic. Chloe was too flat for me, just too much of a "little miss perfect" so her character couldn't really grow much. Her main issue was indecisiveness in which infatuated boy she would choose in the end. At least Alek's sister had to deal with living with the pressure of growing into the position of her mom, battling with her own desires and her responsibilities and often falling short of her own and her mothers expectations.

I have a quick question: would like a special bow and arrow thing be acceptable for a weapon?

What are my options for the institutes and are they different or just the same but in different locations?

i haven't read these books so please correct me or anything if i do something that is not likely or doesn't go with the stories :)

ok, so then it would be the New York Institute? Or is it a random institute like say, Phoenix Institute in Arizona, but my character just moved to New York?

Name: Selene Mystreek
Age: 18

Appearance:

Personality: Selene is constantly frustrated, thinking, and troubled. She is one to have high expectations of herself and if she falls short, she is angry with herself and will do all she can to correct the mistake. She's not incredibly fun or friendly, always putting the hunt of creatures causing trouble in front of personal matters. Rarely she will consider just going off and not giving a damn about being a shadowhunter and just be normal for a day, but she would never have the guts to do that. She's a bit of a perfectionist as well, wanting everything to go quickly and smoothly, though this often isn't the case and blames herself for this. I suppose it could sound like she is very self defeating, but she really is a strong girl. She's trying hard to find balance, just going about it the wrong way.
Background: Selene's mother was one of the best shadowhunters around and constantly pushed and pushed her daughter to be better so that when one day she would no longer be around, Selene could take her place as the leader of a league of shadowhunters. She still does push Selene, belittling her when she makes the slightest mistake and training her until she bleeds basically.
Selene never knew her father. She never has even seen a picture of him or anything. Her mother gives few, vague tidbits of information, such as he had brown hair or he was nice or something similar.
Family Name/crest:
the design on the bag is the crest, symbolizing wings to represent their angel blood. All members of the family have this tattood on their backs. Among the most elite of the Mystreek, they have the bow and arrow:

the archery masters have this tattood on the hand they use to pull and release the arrow. Selene's mother has it tattood on her right hand. Selene has it on the inside of her left wrist.
Kin: she has a lot of cousins, but she doesn't know too many of them. Her mother meets with her siblings for shadowhunting meetings and whatnot, but it's not what I'd call a fun family get-together.
Institute/enclave: New York City Institute
Weapons: Selene has a special bow and arrow. She doesn't have any physical arrows, but when she needs to pull one, it appears on her bow as angel fire and attacks enemies as solid, piercing essences of fire. She also has 1 iratze blade as well, Gabriel.
Other: Although Selene is fierce in battle, she is completely socially awkward. Moreso than even she can stand. Poor girl doesn't know how to talk to people, so she can sometimes come off offensively or rude. She's not very good with plants. She just can't seem to keep any of them alive.

I have a feeling I am going to need some help with this character... I'm not exactly sure how a faerie's story would pan out in this situation...

Age: um looks about 18 give or take a year, though idk if faeries are one of those creatures that can live a super long time in this series...

Personality: Snippy and cruel usually. She has a chiming and alluring laugh and is attractive to most human men or women(idk, just whoever swings that way). She loves a good tragic love story. Mostly the ones where the timing is always just a tad bit off. It makes it all the more delicious to her. She has fun with people, often living vicariously through them and their emotions. She likes going to parties especially and having a fun time and messing with people there, usually easier since the alcohol makes them act on their emotions more.
Clan: Wood clan?
Background: Raven doesn't know where she's going or where she came from really. One day she just woke up in a ditch covered in mud and leaves. She was found by another faerie, Birch, who welcomed her into his family and told her about what happened to her family, all killed by shadowhunters.
She hasn't regained her memory, but once Birch was killed, she takes special pleasure in messing with the emotions of the shadowhunters.

Personality: Max is a bit of a mystery to most people. He doesn't really talk about his past much, but he's almost always interested in the lives of those that he meets and those that he is close to. He is kind and friendly, usually the one to reach out to others and try to befriend them. Some call him Prince Charming, but could this be true? He's surprisingly guarded about his past, usually calling it boring, uneventful or he will just say he doesn't really remember it too well. He's secretive and not usually very trusting of others. He likes hearing about other people's problems and, if they want, he will do what he can to help.
Background: Until he was 10, Max grew up in a wealthy home with maids and butlers and fine luxury, more than one usually would imagine, but his parents were somehow killed in a mysterious car accident and he was put into an orphanage since he had no living relatives. From there he went from house to house, never staying in one place too long.
The night he was taken to the orphanage, he would never forget. It was all too rushed and calm from the moment he saw his nanny pick up and set down the phone to her rushing him out of the house in a hurry, taking the servant rooms and passageways down to the basement and out the private road away to the house. The orphanage seemed to know he was coming when he got there and the story of his parents death seemed all too rehearsed to him, even as a ten year old. He never went to nor was invited to a funeral and he was told that he would not receive any of his parents belongings until he was 21. All his expenses for school and college is taken care of, even the apartment he now lives in is all paid for.

a bad guy would be nice. I suppose we could just make up a hypothetical one that we all could use? or we could make some. Raven is pretty bad, but i think the only trouble she is going to cause is relationship or emotional problems... Since Thera isn't on right now, I can have Selene get paged to go out and deal with her and gets into some trouble maybe? Or gets someone else into trouble...

Personally, I don't mind cussing so long its extremely excessive(like every other word, etc.) i think so long as it fits the character, then you should be fine with it, but i'm not a mod so don't take my word for it.

Downworlder

Name: Kylie Melanee Maluku

Appearance: Dark dusty bronze complexion. Naturally honey-blonde hair, streaked by the sun, refuses to be tamed by any brush, bushy and curls everywhere. Snarly hair brushes her shoulders. Narrow eyes with warm brown irises, framed by fair eyelashes and set beneath slim blonde eyebrows. Wide button-like nose. Plump, dimpled cheeks. Brown-pinkish lips part in a smile to reveal crooked white teeth. Overall, a round, pleasant, cheerfully smiling face. Small, at 3'10" and 50 lbs.

Personality: A sweet, if mischievous girl. Highly inquisitive, often sticks her nose where it doesn’t belong; is forever asking questions. Vivacious and friendly, hates being left alone; once she befriends someone, she doesn’t intend to let them out of her sight. Full of determination and good cheer, the only thing that changes her customary sunny disposition is not getting what she wants. If thwarted or denied, she'll not only pout, but scream her discontent to the world until she feels her needs are met. Extremely persistent. Usually shows a smile to everyone around her, genuinely tries to be helpful to others. Quite trusting, will fall in with anybody who shows her kindness.

Clan: Formerly the Oceania Islander faeries, now of the mundane world

Background: Kylie's mother was half faerie, half mundane. Though Kylie's maternal grandparents loved each other very much, the two's species forbid them from having a long life together. Once the faeries' clan discovered the forbidden love affair, they became livid with fury, and cursed the mundane father, casting strong spells to ensure that he would roam the earth without a home and thus never come near their daughter again. Heartbroken, Kylie's grandmother's last meeting with her lover was to give their newborn babe to the human; her family would have nothing to do with it. Kylie's grandfather raised his girl while he was forced to wander far from his home. Though he could only roam at the edge of the mundane world, his half-breed daughter was attracted to the other side- or, rather, the Downworld. As soon as she was able, she rejoined her magical kin and eloped with a faerie. Together they had Kylie, but her joy wasn't to last. When Kylie's mother revealed the fact that she was half human and half faerie, Kylie's father left them both in disgust. Shattered, Kylie's mother returned to her father, whom she had not seen in years, only months before he died of cancer. Though Kylie's mother was bitter after her tragedies, she loved her child immensely and vowed to give Kylie a better life than she had experienced herself. She was careful to keep Kylie well into the mundane world, and hid Kylie's faerie blood from her until the day she died.

Abilities: Although Kylie's blood is sullied with that of a human's, she is still more faerie than not, and can influence mundane emotions. Cannot use her powers deliberately, but rather on a subconcious level. Her happiness is contagious, and has an innate ability to make others like and trust her. However, when she is sad, an aurora of depression surrounds her, sucking those near her into her own sorrow.

Kin: Mother: Half faerie, half mundane, killed in a "crossfire" between demons and Shadowhunters.
Father: Never knew him. Fully faerie, abandoned her and her mother when Kylie was still an infant.
Maternal grandmother: Never met her. Full-blooded faerie, loved a human though it was forbidden.
Maternal grandfather: Doesn't remember him. Fully human. Cursed by his lover's family. Died of cancer when Kylie was small.

Other: I will need someone to take Kylie under their wing since her mother is dead and other family is out of the picture . . . Perhaps the Shadowhunter society will pass her on to someone, since Kylie's mom was killed accidentally when she was caught in a fight between Shadowhunters and demons?

Personality: Reserved in her ways, Lexa is a quiet killer. She has a mysterious charm to her that matches her stealth and grace, making her beautifully dangerous. There are few things that scare her, and what does still will not make her flinch; she hides behind a poker face, mostly.
Clan: Lexa works for the Nightshade Clan, as a vampire assassin.
Background: Lexa used to be a bubbly, happy young woman with high hopes and a future already planned for her. There would be highschool, there would be college, there would be a job and then a family. But things change. Through a nearly fatal encounter with a werewolf in the woods, Lexa was turned herself. Unable to face what had happened, she ran from all she knew and never looked back. She moved to a big city that was easy to stay under the radar in and started writing for a magazine under a pen name. Things weren't so horrible until she was found out by a local clan and forced into the life of a vampire assassin. Shadow hunters have a warrant out on her, and she runs or hides almost constantly.
Abilities: Enhanced strength and speed, ability to change whenever she pleases, not just on full moons.
Kin: All mortal. Her mother and father live in a rural setting in the south, where her sister also resided until she graduated high school and left for Harvard.

I've decided that my character should be a downworlder. I just think the roleplaying one is a lot more simpler, yet more fun.

Cahira has long, auburn hair with emerald green eyes. She has bronze skin and has a sharp angled face.

Cahira normally wears black skinny jeans with a green or white tank top. She ends the outfit with an brown leather jacket, combat boots, and has a eagle charm on a simple chain necklace.

Personality:
Cahira is the shy, quiet type. She normally doesn't talk unless someone either makes a strait comment to her or just seriously makes her angry.

At other times she can be the stubborn kind. She could a serious smart mouth when this side of her comes around.
Clan: Cahira is rogue and follows nobody.

Cahira was a little girl when she lost her parents to Shadowhunters. When her parents were killed, she vowed to never ally with shadowhunters, unless it was a life and death decision. As she grew up, she taught herself how to fight. She learned from people around the world, and when the time came, Youtube..

Cahira finally roams the world as a free spirit.

Abilities:

Cahira can shape-shift (No brainer!),Read minds, and telekinesis! She also is an advanced fighter with both melee weapons, guns, and fist fighting. Cahira also is best at being stealthy.

Other: Cahira also has a sister and brother. Her sister is a mundane while her brother is also a Shapeshifter.
