Hi Allie!

message 502: by Catherine (new)

Catherine Hi everyone! I sort of read all over the place, but have become enamoured with YA over the last year or so. I'm excited to get lots of new book recommendations to add to my rapidly expanding TBR list!

Kristy Brown | 58 comments Hi all I'm Kristy. I write YA fantasy. Good to hear what's good to read from you guys! xxx

Anna | 144 comments Perfection wrote: "You know, Goodreads keeps recommending it to me but somehow... the cover always puts me off... Is it good?"

Do you mean the Bartimeaus trilogy or Sabriel? They are both fantasy: Both have strong opening chapters that pretty much reflect the style of the rest of the books, so if you get 50 pages in and you don't like either, then perhaps they're not for you. I would say that Nix is a slightly older read.

I meant Sabriel. Bartimaeus trilogy is possibly my favourite series ever.

message 508: by Martin (new)

Martin | 1 comments Hey, my name is Marty. I'm kinda new to Goodreads, but I saw this group and had to join. I'm a college student, and I work at one of the University's libraries. It has a big selection of Juvenile/YA books thanks to all of the Education majors. Outside of Harry Potter, my favorite would be a tie between the Pendragon series The Merchant of Death and The Looking Glass Wars The Looking Glass Wars trilogy. YA isn't the only thing I read, but it did get me into reading more ever since I started working at the library.

message 524: by Paige (new)

Paige Hi, my name is Paige. I am a Girl Scout Troop Leader and we have a YA Book Club going. I am trying to read as many YA books as I can, and am always looking for suggestions for books my scouts might be interested in reading. I have nine 7th grade girls, who are all 13 now.

So far, we've read, "Divergent," "Shiver" and "Matched." Currently we are reading "Uglies." What's with all the single word titles? Just noticed that,...weird.

I'm looking for suggestions of books to put on our reading list. I will post in the MISC or SURVEY topics and see where I end up.

Thanks!

My, you are not going to be short of book titles! You could have a look at the Carnegie Medal ShortList that is up on the Misc section of the YA group as a starting point.

Yanwei (twilight327) | 1 comments Hi, I'm Yanwei, age 19, from Singapore. For those who don't know where that is(probably most people), it is a tiny island in South-East Asia. I love reading and can't stop once I start a book, which is why I used to always speed-read and skip chapters, but I don't really do that anymore now.;D

Here's a intro of my reading history...XD
I started reading children's books(mostly Enid Blyton) when I was 7; discovered Harry Potter & Roald Dahl books when I was 10 and totally loved them!!!
After I was 13, I moved on to Young Adult books and got into paranormal/supernatural genre thanks to L.J.Smiths's Night World Series and fell in love with the vampire genre thanks to Buffy the Vampire Slayer novels. (that was way before Twilight, which I don't find special)

My favourite genres include fantasy, romance and mystery.
Although my reading styles are changed over the years, my love for books have not, though it has been getting harder for me to find books that interest me nowadays, much less series that I really love. Which is probably why I decided to join this site, hahaXD And of course I still love YA books, eg, The Hunger Games, Infernal Devices Series & many many more<3<3

I bought a Kindle from Amazon last year and really loved it, though I still prefer the good old hard copy books which are easier to flip (which is the main trouble I have with my kindle and I have yet to figure out how go to my bookmarked pages, if it is even possible)

Hopefully, I'll be able to find like-minded friends here and discover more great books!! Can't wait!!XD(

message 546: by Michael (new)

Michael Sussman Hi, I'm Michael. I'm a writer and a lover of all sorts of fiction, including YA.

When I was in school, no one talked about YA novels, but we read some great ones, such as Catcher in the Rye, Lord of the Flies, and A Wizard of Earthsea.

I started reading them again when my son began reading YA novels. In fact, when he was 12, I took Mockingjay away from him! I felt it was too violent for him, and told him he'd have to wait to read it.

Some of my favorites include Marcelo in the Real World, Feed, Unwind, Smack, and His Dark Materials trilogy.

I’m looking forward to participating in the group and to reading Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children.

Sorry! I didn't know what to say. But well, I said J.K. Rowling's my favourite author so Harry Potter is my favourite saga, of course. I also like The Hunger Games, The Mortal Instruments, A Game of Thrones. And my favourite genre is young adult, but I enjoy others like fantasy and romance.

I'm from Uruguay, by the way. Spanish is my first language.
