Tammy | 17 comments I think Katniss accomplished the things SHE actually wanted to. She kept Prim out of the games, she saved Peeta, and she didn’t die in the arena. It was never her idea to lead the rebellion but she went along with it in order to get the things she was wanting.

I wish she communicated more. She’s extremely assuming and ends up bringing excessive drama and misunderstandings to her life. I know she doesn’t like to talk about her feelings but if she won’t talk, then at least don’t jump to conclusions.

I loved her character as a believable teenager. Liking more than one guy is exactly what she should be doing at that age. If they don’t like being strung along, they should walk away. Anyway, it’s rare to find a couple who grew up together and fell in love. You’re too much like siblings. As she had more experiences, she learned what she wanted and it was clear who she wanted and didn’t want.

If I had read the books before watching the movies, it would’ve been super exciting. That’s the only thing I’d change.

However, what amazes me is that by the end..."

Loved the book and loved Katniss too but I totally agree with this. The ending felt off to me and I think it's because Katniss' character arc is completely undercut because Prim dies.

Amy Koto | 10 comments I'm really happy that I did get a chance to read all of the books before the movies because I really felt a true connection to Katniss. She is strong, fearless, and has an incredibly big heart. She is incredibly loyal and I did not dismiss her or feel annoyed by her at all. She was someone I could really relate to, but I will say that I connected to her more in the first two books. It's like some of her fire went out by the end, but that's to be expected and understandable. I think Jennifer Lawrence did a very good job portraying her, but I was even more connected when reading the books.

yannie reads (yandraconfesses) Katniss is a fierce and headstrong character who keeps on inspiring me to this day. However I do think that the narration is quite dull and that there wasn’t much of a clear moral and reason for many of the deaths in the book *cough cough, my love Finnick*

message 56: by Ahenry (new)

Ahenry Read this a while ago and recommended it to my mom when the movie first came out. She refused saying how barbaric the concept was. Fast forward years and years. This spring my father passed away and mom and I have had all kinds of time together. She spends the night at my house from time-to-time and mentioned she loved "that Divergent movie" and asked what was like it. We binge-watched the movies together and she LOVED them. It was so much fun to see one of my favorite heroines again through fresh eyes.

I feel like Katniss is an amazing heroine; strong, loyal and the sole provider for her family. For a book written well before the "sorry, not sorry" movement, I love that she is unapologetically strong. We have had a rash of female heroines since Katniss, but I feel she was a pioneer in YA heroines, existing in a sea of boy/man heroes.

Incidentally, after the trilogy, I asked my mom if she remembered her comment from years prior, or if she had thought it was a totally different movie. She replied that she did remember it. She had just changed her mind. ;)

100% agree.

Interestingly enough, I read somewhere that Collins never intended for Gale to be a love interest. The article stated that in the original draft she submitted to the publisher, Gale was her cousin. The editor advised changing this and making Gale a love interest to grab more readers.

Zara (zara124) | 28 comments Gale was never meant to be a love interest? That is interesting. I suppose Gale never really stood a chance.

Michihako (michimochi) | 23 comments Best heroine ever in my opinion!

message 61: by Dalia (new)

Dalia | 183 comments Her relationship with Rue was the best. I don’t feel like we get enough time with female friendships in YA books.

Zara | 245 comments Best heroine.
Bold. Fierce. Independent

T ✩ Handmaiden Of Amidala (tarria) The best protagonist of modern YA imo. Her character really degraded in later books unfortunately. Mockingjay Katniss was a shadow of her former self

MarleyTheDragon | 213 comments Eh. She was great in the first book but then became just annoying with her disregard for her own safety and slight arrogance and madness. Only to be expected though.

I love Katniss but I find the way she goes between both boys a little irritating. It's like they're nothing but pawns for her at times. I understand she has a hard time figuring those sorts of relationships out but I didn't really see it as fair. She's still pretty great though lol.

Ella✨(booktrovert) | 152 comments Katniss is such an incredible character! I loved all of her except her people/relationship skills. She is smart, caring, confident, strong, independent, incredibly brave, selfless, inspiring, and true to herself.

alice (lana del rey's version) | 110 comments i don't usually have the protagonist as my favourite character, but i think Katniss is probably my favourite hunger games character

message 68: by Evan (new)

Evan Carey | 99 comments Katniss is such a hero! She's so strong throughout all the books! She knows right from wrong. And unlike other characters in the Hunger Games she actually has feelings and cares for others.

message 69: by Avery (new)

Avery Duffy | 9 comments She's the girl on fire who’s part-time archer, full-time reluctant hero, and forever smoldering with teenage angst.
She can shoot arrows with deadly precision, and her idea of a balanced diet? Berries that might kill you and bread thrown by a boy who’s inexplicably good at frosting cakes.
She's got the survival instincts of Bear Grylls and the emotional range of... well, a teenager thrust into a death match.

message 70: by Lennon (new)

Lennon K. (lennonkriley) | 4 comments LOVE her. And always thought it was funny that she saw herself as unlikable and "rough around the edges" when really, everyone likes her.
