OK, I didn't know this book was chosen so I haven't picked it up yet. I'll do so and hopefully catch up.

I finally got this from the library and finished the first chapter, "Mittens". I love how this is written already.

I love how the author weaves together marriage customs, her own parents' tragic marriage, mother's early death, the role of women/girls in Japanese households (and others), as well as her own beginnings in knitting with mittens. It's some of the most thoughtful writing I've read lately.

Glad you're enjoying it, Lien! I confess, this one looked a little cerebral for me, and I'm prepping for knee surgery, so I'm passing on this now. You make it sound good though....I think I eventually will have to get it. I love just knitting essays, like Michelle Edwards
