message 1: by [deleted user] (new)

Three months into the year, just wondering how everyone's doing with their yearly challenge.

Good, bad, on pace?

message 2: by Ben (new)

Ben (bstanley52) | 18 comments Scarily ahead of pace! Apparently I need to get more work done (or up my challenge total!).

message 3: by Candiss (new)

Candiss (tantara) I am a couple of books behind. I'm stuck in the middle of a couple of very long books, so I don't imagine my pace will catch up until some weeks after I (finally) finish those.

message 4: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm sitting at 5 books ahead, due to some of the short books I've been reading lately.

Still, not bad though. :P

message 5: by Genia (new)

Genia Lukin I'm at four books ahead right now, oddly enough though I had zero time to read.

message 6: by Alicia (new)

Alicia I'm a couple books ahead too, but I set my challenge low 'cause I'm planning on Infinite Jest to take me a few months. I haven't start it yet, so my aheadedness will probably disappear.

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

Infinite Jest should count as two books at least.

message 8: by Laurel (new)

Laurel I'm ahead because I've been reading some novellas and short stories. Even though my total is ahead, I feel terribly behind! There are about 4 books I want to get to RIGHT NOW, not to mention the 5 or 6 I bought for my birthday...

message 9: by Maggie (new)

Maggie K | 693 comments all my malazan reading has got me behind, but I am almost done so expect I will catch up soon!

message 10: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (breakofdawn) | 462 comments I set my goal pretty low, just because I'm not super worried about meeting a specific number (I set it at 52 for one book per week).. So far I'm 13 books ahead of that, so I'm guessing I'll make it. So far that's 10,255 pages... So an average of about 450 pages per book.. Not too long, but not so short either! I'm pleased with my progress :)

message 11: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) | 1894 comments I set my goal higher this year than last year by 15 books. I'm currently ahead, but I don't know how long that will last. I've just started Les Mis, which is 1329 pages. Not sure how long that will take me. (Though, Count of Monte Cristo is about the same length and that one only took me 9 days, so maybe it won't be too bad.)

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

I set mine to 150 this year, since I hit my 125 goal last year. Shouldn't be too difficult.

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) | 2717 comments I set mine at 100 again for this year and am currently 14 books ahead. But I've read a bunch of short ones recently, so not sure how this'll pan out.

message 14: by Chris (last edited Mar 07, 2012 07:04AM) (new)

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 889 comments 100 is the goal, sitting 12 11 books ahead.

I'm hoping that bricks and shorties will balance out and I'll be able to stay ahead.

ETA: Changed to 11 ahead. It rolled over this morning.

message 15: by Cathy (last edited Mar 07, 2012 08:44AM) (new)

Cathy (cathygreytfriend) | 122 comments I'm hoping to hit an insane 225 again this year. One of the few benefits of being disabled is having a lot of time to read. (Thank God for my amazing library system!) I'm a book behind, but I've been having a super slow week. I actually went three days where I only read 11 pages, I don't think that's happened in years! And the sci-fi book I'm reading, Fool's War, is really good but it won't be one that I fly through. Isn't it weird how some books go super fast and others just take longer? I find that witty urban fantasy seems to have a super fast pace, for example. Anyway, I have a few children's books here that I need to get to, so that will tip the numbers the other way when I get to them.

message 16: by Cathy (new)

Cathy (cathygreytfriend) | 122 comments I just remembered that last year I read both Reamde and 1Q84 near the end of the year, huge books. That almost sunk me! I guess it always averages out eventually, I was just more aware of it because it was right at the end. But when highly-in-demand books come from the library, I have to take advantage of it, I can't put them off because it might mess up my silly (but fun) reading challenge!

message 17: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) | 1894 comments Uh oh... I just lost one book lead. I'm now only 1 ahead. O_o

message 18: by Trike (new)

Trike Dangit, I just remembered I had a book at the library on hold that expired yesterday. Stupid cold.

...don't know why I felt compelled to share that, except it was one of my two "D" books for my 2012 Alphabet Challenge. (Each letter of the alphabet twice. 26 books * 2 = 52 weeks.) Goodreads doesn't have a challenge category for that.

message 19: by Crusader (new)

Crusader (crusaderza) | 80 comments I'm woefully behind. For some reason most of the books I've read so far this year have been 500+ page tomes. I was aiming for 125 this year, but I'll have to reconsider.

message 20: by Jack (new)

Jack (attackofjack) All my calculus homework cuts down considerably on my book time. :(

message 21: by Fakhir (new)

Fakhir Munir | 13 comments Scarcely on pace, trying to catch up.

message 22: by [deleted user] (new)

I haven't finished a book in a few days, but I'm suddenly six books ahead.

The widget is on crack.

message 23: by Debbie (new)

Debbie Hazeleger (eruwenfuin) | 3 comments I'm apparently 9 books ahead on my 50 books challenge. I finished 4 this week due to ...stress? I dunno, I read when I get stressed out. Escapism at its best. It helps that what I was reading was all fantasy ish, and relatively easy to read. I practicly breezed through 2 hunger games books in 2 days.

message 24: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah, the Hunger Games books are nice, quick reads.

message 25: by Trike (new)

Trike Mass Effect 3 is seriously cutting into my reading time. As is this chest cold, easily the worst I've ever had. Of course, it's also the first I've experienced while taking immuo-suppression drugs, so the OJ and Nyquil aren't as effective.

message 26: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm kinda glad I've avoided ME completely. I don't need even more non-reading distractions.

message 27: by Trike (new)

Trike When the whole lot goes on sale, you should pick it up. It's a quite good space opera. The ability to make different decisions as you go really increases the replay value.

message 28: by [deleted user] (new)

I might just do that. Once I've gone through my current gaming addictions.

message 29: by Jack (new)

Jack (attackofjack) I am slightly behind, but now that I've time to read again, I'm starting to catch up again. :)

message 30: by Sofie (new)

Sofie (duskbloom) I set my goal at 20 books, as that was approximately how much I read last year. I am however 9 books ahead, having read pretty much one book/week...yeah I'm going to raise my goal when I reach it.

message 31: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm nine books ahead and haven't read in five days.

The widget lies.

message 32: by Joon (new)

Joon (everythingbeeps) | 512 comments Terrible. I set my goal at 25, which would typically be a down year for me, but as last year was a REALLY down year (something like 17?), I thought 25 would be fair. Hell, even if I hit that goal, I'd still be disappointed.

But now almost four months in, I'm at six books. All short (or, in the case of the one long one, I started last year and only finished this year).

Ironically, I thought getting a Kindle would give me a boost, but if anything I think it's slowed me down. I've started and (presumably temporarily) abandoned so many books because another book is just a click away. It's like instead of reading, I'm always just browsing. It also doesn't help that most of the books I want to read right now are super long, and that's what killed me last year.

message 33: by Scott (new)

Scott (bookblogger) I'm a little bit behind at the moment, but nothing that will be impossible to come back from. I hit 150 last year so I decided to go a bit higher this time.

message 34: by [deleted user] (new)

Hope you find a book that actually captures your interest, Mike.

For me, I'm sitting at 17 books ahead. It's a nice little buffer zone :P

message 35: by Mach (new)

Mach | 103 comments I am one book ahead, have read 10 of 30 books with an average of 512 pages per book. Not as much as last year.

message 36: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (breakofdawn) | 462 comments I'm 29 books ahead, but I only set my goal at 52. 7 more and I'll have met it.. Then I'll probably bump it to 100 and see if I can make it there.

message 37: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm 18 books ahead. 6 more and I'll be at the halfway point.

Not bad, really.

message 38: by Riona (new)

Riona (rionafaith) | 83 comments I've finally caught up with mine, and have some short books out from the library so I may even inch ahead. My goal is 100, which shouldn't be a problem. I ended up reading 106 last year.
